This is the room update feedback spot

Jill7Cups November 11th, 2019

Hi there-

If you have positive or critical feedback about last week's room change, this is the place to post it. We will respond to feedback and questions that are professional and kind as best we can and with the info we have.

As such, complaining or providing feedback in the rooms will no longer be acceptable. The rooms are for support and support programming and not about site feedback. This is also the forum area for feedback. Moving forward everyone will be directed here if you would like to discuss room updates.

The paid mods, the ambassadors, and anyone else in the community did not make this room decision. It is inappropriate and unfair to take out your frustrations on them. This room plan has been in the planning stages for most of the year. Many options and ideas were considered, many staff teams were involved. Based on the existing site and on the needs of the community (safety, focus on support, etc) this is the plan that was moved forward. Do not take your frustrations out on volunteers and on the mods.

To everyone who is accepting of this change thank you. We appreciate the messages and feedback of support. Especially from those who aren't sure about the change but are willing to give it a try.

And to those of you who are unhappy about it, we hear you. We know it was sudden and a large scale change. Please give it a chance knowing we are focused on improving the long term experiences here.

Enough from me, post your feedback below!

How are the new rooms "safer" if Straight/Hetero people are/were being called "Disgusting cishets" in the Member Community Room? Yes.. I do understand the need for LGBTQ "safety" but itsn't it a bit hypocritical for them to spout that type of language towards "Cisgender Heterosexuals"?

I'm usually open minded. You live your life, I live mone. I respect you if you respect me. It goes BOTH ways. I NEVER judged anyone on their race, religion, sexual prefrences, gender identity. I actually dont feel "safe" on 7cups anymore. BUT after seeing how they chatted and calling me and others "disgusting cishets" I'm changing my mind about being "open minded" I blame 7cups. And the community "mods" who let it happen.

Minimizing the rooms from dozens to a couple was just plain absurd and asinine. Considering anyone with any web and tech design (even at most inexperienced level) also knows the feed wasn't costing the site a dime to run - especially after they stopped fixing the bugs and glitches back in the spring. So there was zero reason to remove it besides to outrage both listeners and members who depended on it.

MonBon November 13th, 2019

@Dawn04

As they've explained several times, the feed was on an entirely different server. You still have to pay for a server that information is being uploaded to and stored on, even if you aren't upkeeping it.

@MonBon I don't like threats. I also think the PTB might realize how bad it would make them look to start banning people at this point after ignoring a stalker for let's see, at least 7-8 months now.

MonBon November 13th, 2019

@Dawn04

I'm not threatening you, I'm genuinely trying to look out for you. If you like having your account, I would be careful. It's just common sense not to antagonize the people allowing you to use their service.

Dawn04 November 13th, 2019

@MonBon I think you need to look up threat in the dictionary....you are threatening me. And again, it would be a really sad day for a website to ban someone who's done nothing but good here when they have ignored a stalker for the better part of a year. Check around with people - I wasn't the only victim.

MonBon November 13th, 2019

@Dawn04

I am not threatening you. I have 0 control over what happens to your account. If you want to antagonize the admins that is on you, but I am encouraging you not to.

EvelyneRose November 13th, 2019

@Dawn04

threat

noun

1. a statement of an intention to inflict pain, injury, damage, or other hostile action on someone in retribution for something done or not done.

I think the fact there's no tone in words in text might've granted it's own interpretation, but she's just looking out for you. If she was threatening you, it would've been more like "if you don't stop, i'll do X" rather than "please be careful". Monbon has no control over your account. Also, if you have a stalker situation, I'd suggest talking to admin about a name change or seeing what other steps can be taken if you haven't already. I don't want to see anyone feeling unsafe.

You know what this really reads as,

it reads as we realize we just made a giant mistake and we realize our volunteers and moderators are being attacked for our bad decisions, please now leave all negative comments right here instead and not beat up our volunteers and moderators for our bad decisions. Also this change has been a long time coming and planning but we didn't feel it necessary to let the community we serve know anything about our plans until the last second because we had the feeling this was not going to go over well at all with our regular members. Also we really only want to read about positive feed back, we are not interested in any kind of negative constructive critism or any negative comments in any form.

An thank you to our staff for the 28 up likes and thanks to everyone who wants to stay in good standing with us with your positivity. All other common sense suggestions will be thrown out the window or ignored completely.

Also to our regular members who have lost touch with friends that you relied upon for help and support, too bad, and good luck on discord.

@aVeryoriginalScreenname IF those mods considered those things to be wrong and unfair they could have voiced their complaints and if ignored just quit and let the owner manage this site on his own.. I'm sure he has a lot of free time. Yet they are compliant with all changes.. So either they just want the extra money, they dont care what members think or a combination of both :)

EvelyneRose November 13th, 2019

@SirJambabwe

Well, I think there's also d) they have voiced their opinions, and they may or may not agree, but it's not really up to them since it comes from higher up. That doesn't make them compliant, it just makes them not in charge. For example, when a director at a law firm makes a call that people don't agree with, the employees have to make a tough decision. They still need to eat, they still have bills, families, etc, even if they do care about the people the the call affected. The employee may or may not agree, but they can either stay, or quit and find somewhere else. They have to weigh whether they feel it's worth staying vs. leaving.

This is the second time that major upheaval has come about without any prior warning. This time to the whole site not just a community. Honestly I understand updating and changing. I do not understand changing with no prior warning nor giving people a chance to adjust. Also from what I have seen there was nowhere to suggest this or a community discussion. Again things change without the people affected being involved. I am going to describe this as a major communication issue and as a mental health support site that advocates listening and talking this 'like it or leave' attitude is kinda gross.

LittleLotte November 12th, 2019

If there are only going to be chatrooms open at scheduled times, can we please have times that are suitable for international members?

And could scheduled times be posted showing the timezone conversions to make it easier for international visitors to see what time it'll be in their country. Trying to work out timezone differences is a tricky thing!

actualmermaid November 12th, 2019

One of the biggest problems I have with this massive change of how the site works is the blatant disregard for people with disabilities. Some people with disabilities get extremely upset with small changes in their routine, so this big upheaval of the community is really upsetting. It feels like no thought was given to people who become agitated with changes. If this was truly a year in the making, why was no warning given? Why was there no communication with the members when this is a site that puts the members first? I also think that the new way of accessing the LGBTQ+/MOGII group support rooms and Disability support rooms is too difficult and could derail people from getting actual support. This site should not defer people from recieving actual help.

SirJambabwe November 12th, 2019

@actualmermaid

You see they want to offer you security even at the cost of you potentially not receiving support, because of how overcomplicated they made things.

I thought this is what members wanted ? Security agains trolls ? Werent you moaning about the trolls ?

There is a lesson to be learned...

Those who sell freedom for security deserve neither and should suffer the bitter fruits of their labor.

@Jill7Cups

I understand why you made the change and I support it. It is a shame that people who disagree with this are going about sharing this opinion unconstructively and almost in an abusive fashion, yet it's ironic that they claim 7 Cups is ruining the supportive atmosphere. blush They forget that Glen and those working behind 7 Cups are human beings, just like they forget the volunteers are humans too; they don't deserve such cruel words and treatment being thrown at them, yet they expect perfect treatment from everyone they come across here.

I am in a Discord server with 5000+ people, it still works fine and everyone gets heard. Though I would recommend implementing a message slower (30 second wait per message?) for very busy times. People will get used to this change eventually.

@Jill7Cups

I've already posted this on the announcement thread, but I'll post it once more here.

I think the new system is stupid, to put it bluntly.

As a listener, I went to the group support rooms to get away from the inappropriate and downright perverted behaviour that one encounters in the General Requests everyday. I've had days as a Listener where every single request I take is someone making advances towards me. It's so draining to want to help someone and only have them demean you in return. This is part of the reason I became a Room Supporter, because it was so incredibly draining each day to feel so useless when I was just trying to do my part.

In the Group Support chats, I never personally saw anything inappropriate. When the thing that kept me from burn out on this site was taken away, I'm not gonna lie, I was upset. It seems like the idea wasn't thought through at all, that it was just an impulse decision. At least, that's how it seems, judging by the absolute lack of care and information that was given to us.

The only thing I've seen resulting from this change is crowded chatrooms filled with angry people. Restricting access to something people love and use frequently as a way of solving a small problem is unrealistic and illogical.

I wish we would've gotten further notice or more information on this before the changes took place.

There should be mods in all the room a barely see them exclusively in the member room

November 13th, 2019

I was just censored in the Member Community room for 'daring' to inquire how people felt about the changes. My comment was literally deleted by [MonBon removed for confidential info] who afterward had the gall to invite me to express those thoughts in the forums. They told me the topic wasn't allowed to be discussed. I've been a member for many years and have seen 7Cups reinvent itself many times, and I support clamping down on bullying. But look at 7Cups' own behaviour -- they removed so many community rooms (lifelines for some) with hardly any notice, and now are suppressing conversations about the changes in the new chatrooms. No apologies either. Something is very wrong with management and operations at 7Cups.

soulsings November 13th, 2019

@redKite4725 I am sorry your comments on the room changes were deleted. The reason is that discussions about the room changes can better be addressed in the forums. And the other problem is trying to get support is difficult when people want to express their displeasure with the changes. It is necessary to have rooms where people can get support.

They were a shock to me so I hear your frustration. I am waiting to see how things unfold. So far guided discussions seem to be a place for getting support on the specific topics of the discussion.

I hope you get the support you are looking for.

@soulsings

Thank you for your supportive message and information.

I am now aware that the new policy is to only discuss the room changes in the forums, but I don't think mods censoring members is the correct way to encourage this. Think about it: 7Cups has been a place for expression of the truth about feelings, to be heard. I object to the severity of the suppression. Certainly the mod's censorship was a room/chat killer.

I definitely will get the support I need over being censored on a platform that up till now has promoted a sense of caring and compassion to encourage members to trust 7Cups, its listeners and therapists with their pain and difficult situations.
The policy to discuss room changes in the forums should not be incompatible with members acknowledging mixed feelings about the changes and asking how their fellow members feel, but in this new 7Cups there's no flexibility. I'll find my own support for this betrayal of values and trust. Maybe this comment or my other comments will be censored too; where's the real line, 7Cups? Nobody knows, and that's down to how this was rolled out. Apologies are due.

I'm so grateful this has happened, as people, even if they are a coporation like 7Cups, do reveal themseves by their actions. I see you, 7Cups.

Peace, out.
