This is the room update feedback spot

Jill7Cups November 11th, 2019

Hi there-

If you have positive or critical feedback about last week's room change, this is the place to post it. We will respond to feedback and questions that are professional and kind as best we can and with the info we have.

As such, complaining or providing feedback in the rooms will no longer be acceptable. The rooms are for support and support programming and not about site feedback. This is also the forum area for feedback. Moving forward everyone will be directed here if you would like to discuss room updates.

The paid mods, the ambassadors, and anyone else in the community did not make this room decision. It is inappropriate and unfair to take out your frustrations on them. This room plan has been in the planning stages for most of the year. Many options and ideas were considered, many staff teams were involved. Based on the existing site and on the needs of the community (safety, focus on support, etc) this is the plan that was moved forward. Do not take your frustrations out on volunteers and on the mods.

To everyone who is accepting of this change thank you. We appreciate the messages and feedback of support. Especially from those who aren't sure about the change but are willing to give it a try.

And to those of you who are unhappy about it, we hear you. We know it was sudden and a large scale change. Please give it a chance knowing we are focused on improving the long term experiences here.

Enough from me, post your feedback below!

@Jill7Cups

"This room plan has been in the planning stages for most of the year."

The rollout is lousy and unacceptable, communication abysmal. People with mental health challenges are the last population to treat the way 7Cups has with this draconian change wth hardly any notice. Try taking a tone and adopting behaviour that shows that 7Cups actually cares about members. I don't know who wrote your message, but it's worthy of a military directive.

I understand now why the conversation I was trying to have in the Member Commnity Room was censored. It's easier to control the topic in the forums.

What happened at the senior level at 7Cups? Where is compassion at the operational level, and care?

@redKite4725 "What happened at the senior level at 7Cups?"

That is, indeed, the question. We may never know, unless it turns out to have been newsworthy.

We ust want to know that our voice matters and that someone is actually listening to us. This community has been built mainly by volunteers, people who have dedicated their time for free: as a listener, moderator, forum supporter etc, many people have done what they could to help and none of their/voice mattered in any way when they took these decisions.

All the sudden-ness and uncaring side of the decisions regarding the feed and chat rooms only proved to me and to many others that we don't matter enough..

We want the feed and more of the chat rooms that we've had, but they were taken away from us and no one even read or commented on the feedback you received in the official announcements, so i am not sure what else should we write here.

More than this, in the official announcements, we were invited to just leave the site if we don't like the changes.What kind of remark is that -addressed to those who may have contributed to the site/community for years (for free) ??

How can we not feel worthless and disposable and how can we adapt to the drastic changes when elements that we have highly valued were unexpectedly taken away and we are shown so little care, despite the fact that many of us are sensitive/vulnerable etc? I tried to process all this, but i just can't get over.it. Not sure with what to replace 7 cups, i used to like here a lot but now i just feel silenced, i can't talk here with my friends-not on the feed or chat rooms and nothing is the same. sad I guess if i could find a logic behind all this or plausible reasons it would be easier, but all you have proven is how immensly disconnected you are from normal people who come here for support's needs.

@DarkCoffee

Thank you for taking the time and energy to write this, coffee. Youre right, the company and the communities (chat room communities as well as the feed) are disconnected. And now they dont even bother to go through the feedback. They have gotten plenty so its not like they havent gotten the memo. Its just the kind of memo that points out the hurt and loss and logical errors here.. and thats something they cant deal with. They rather point the door and tell you to walk out. And whats worse, they plan to burn out the remaining volunteer mods that are pretty much forced to try to keep the rooms open to hold on to their sub communities. Subcommunities that all of us helped to build and they took them with a snap of a finger.

Jill7Cups OP November 13th, 2019

@DarkCoffee I appreciate your message. I get what you are saying. Many volunteers have spent a lot of time helping to build this to what it is today. And I hear you about doing all of that and then suddenly get told xyz is happening. It is a tricky situation, we we've grown so much recently on the company side which allowed us to afford to add features and what not to the community side. There has always been this balance of staff decisions vs community decisions and for so long it worked well. Obviously we need to work on that. But please also consider that there are so many varied opinions across our volunteers and our members that we rarely come to one agreement. This room situation could have been handled better, but I wonder what resolution we would have come to that was any different? Although I suppose having the spae to discuss it in and of itself is of significant value.

As far as the note about going to other sites. This was not meant to be hurtful, although it seems it may have been taken that way. The intention here is to remind people that we can only do so much here, and that some may find what they need elsewhere. It isn't a agree or leave type thing, it is a- hey, this is what we are good at and this is what we aren't good at and if we align with what you need awesome but if we don't there are lots of places out there that might. Finding the right support is more important than staying here and being miserable. Does that make sense?

Someone just got turned away from one of the 24/7 rooms for having a hard time with ptsd and flashbacks. They didnt even get to say what was going on. Just told to look for a listener by CM. I mean how is this increased safety? They just probably wanted to be heard and know theyre not alone. But they were turned away.

@lilmango

I was told by a mod in PM's that I was not to seek support for my depression in the Member Community Room...that it is supposed to be for light-hearted chat only.

So this site has only one permanent room for support that is available to most members.

Good luck to anyone who wants group support in the one support room when there are 25+ people talking in there.

This site is Glen's but his listener's who volunteer for free hold it above water.. IF the listeners leave, the site closes down or is at least is crippled.

Thats the only way to make Glen hear what you have to say.. Unfortunately. If you want to make anyone hear you have to create circumstances where he has to pay dearly if he refuses to hear you out. We are evil hairless monkeys and we function on incentives, truly pure and noble actions are relatively rare among our species.

@SirJambabwe Lets play devil's advocate.. What if all listeners left to protest the choices of one man ?.. Sure eventually he has to compromise at least if he values this site a little, but the crippled site would mean more people not getting help and support. Do the end justify the means ? You see a sword cuts both ways whenever you choose a course of action. His decision hurt people your decision will hurt people. If he just backed down he would lose respect from people for lacking a spine. There is no choice in life without consequences..

The lesson is that, you should always practice being a devil's advocate and try to view everything from the opposite side of things also, otherwise, the next charismatic individual that swayes you may convince you to do much much much more terrible things to achieve the results you desire. :)

The world is gray.. Those who think in terms of black and white are nothing but pawns to be moved on a board of another's ambitions.. Usually sociopaths and authoritarians who want to tell you how you should wipe your behind after doing your business and how many wipes is acceptable and how many may be considered an insult to the supreme leader of the hell you created through your ignorant blind support of things you only viewed through one shade..

@SirJambabwe

i think he would gain respect from people not lose respect by making the site more user friendly and the real problem here between the consumers and the product is the same as it was with microsoft before the free alternative operating systems came into existence .... people still have respect for microsoft today right ?

@Jill7Cups, I did prefer having the separate chat rooms, is, if someone finds LGBT+ offensive, they could simply go to a different room. Now we don't have that option, which I feel would prove injurous later on, if it isn't already.

Also very telling when who ever Lorainne is, has made an announcement that he or she is leaving, like right when all the upheaval is taking place, on top of that, this feedback post thread is obviously a joke, how can one tell ???? Zero replies from admin and just one lone moderator holding the fort in here.

@LiveLifeup I hear you, I'm really sorry for any difficulty this change has caused. I hope once things settle a bit we will be able to focus on providing more discussions and support sessions more regularly to help.
