And now my watch hs ended.  I am no longer active on the site.  To find a listener click the Browse Listeners.  Listeners indicate if they are taking on new chats in their profile.  The green dot indicates they are currently online.  For urgent needs please join the general queue and the first available listener will connect. A little about me: I love dogs and the outdoors.  Have a wonderful day and thanks for dropping by!

...See more 7Cups wants to hear about your experience as listeners! 7 Cups is seeking feedback from active listeners so that we can better understand what makes our service successful for both listeners and members, and how we can improve the user experience. We are asking you to participate in a remote interview to share your story and insights about using 7 Cups. This research is being conducted in collaboration with researchers at the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University [https://hcii.cmu.edu]. Well provide a brief report of our findings once we finish this research. To participate, you should be a 7 Cups listener who is over 18 years old and currently in America. Your participation is completely voluntary! If you would like to participate in an interview session, please fill out this form [https://forms.gle/6jyberr82y2qUTMg8], to let us know how to contact you and when you will be available. During the interview, you will describe your experiences at 7 Cups, including your interactions with the 7 Cups training, 7 Cups members, other 7 Cups listeners, and 7 Cups staff members. Your insights will be very useful in helping 7Cups making decisions for new features and designs. The interview will last approximately 45 minutes and will be conducted remotely using visual communication software like Skype or Google Hangout. You may choose to use audio and/or video. The interview will be conducted by a researcher at the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. Participating in this research will not be considered off-site contact. Edited to add: @resourcefulMew5051 [https://www.7cups.com/@resourcefulMew5051] is spearheading this project here and is available in the comments below if you have questions!

7 Cups Leadership / by Jill7Cups

...See more Hey everyone. I know a lot of changes have been happening at 7 Cups recently and there are lots of frustrations, questions, and worries. On the staff side of things weve also been on a bit of a rollercoaster with unexpected layoffs. Although I was not a part of the group who was laid off, it really made me reflect on my path. I was collaborating with many people on projects I felt strongly about, and the layoffs impacted my daily collaborations and relationships deeply. I realized losing so much of the team was impacting my mental and physical health in a way that was not sustainable. After much reflection, I chose to resign last week. My last day is Tuesday, November 26. I want to emphasize that this decision was my own. There are rumors abound about the financial state of 7 Cups and that it may shut down. This is not the case. While I am not privy to the budget details, what Ive been told is the company is financially secure and operational now that the layoffs have taken place. The community will continue to be available to anyone who needs it. @Glen will be more involved in the community day to day, which is a great opportunity to get him up to speed with your pain points and your ideas. He made a post earlier today about what he is prioritizing for the community in 2020 and beyond which you can read here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/SiteUpdates_100/GlensNookCommunity_547/November2019CommunityUpdateAReturntoCommunity_212460/]. The show must go on: new roles, new staff! Im really excited to announce @Heather225 will be stepping into my role and Im excited for her. Im also excited to announce that we will be adding 2 new part-time community managers that we will announce soon. Something exciting in the works is adding a couple part-time Trust and Safety roles. This is a much needed role to help with the unsavory side of online communities such as inappropriate behavior. This role will take over the safety investigations that the CMs previously managed. The hardest part about leaving is saying goodbye to all the members and listeners I have built relationships with. This site has a wonderfully amazing group of people volunteering and participating. Stay true to what is meaningful to you, you are all helping to make the world a better place by offering kindness and support. That will always be something incredibly special. Please keep spreading good and positivity in your daily lives, I will do the same.
This is the room update feedback spot

...See more Hi there- If you have positive or critical feedback about last week's room change, this is the place to post it. We will respond to feedback and questions that are professional and kind as best we can and with the info we have. As such, complaining or providing feedback in the rooms will no longer be acceptable. The rooms are for support and support programming and not about site feedback. This is also the forum area for feedback. Moving forward everyone will be directed here if you would like to discuss room updates. The paid mods, the ambassadors, and anyone else in the community did not make this room decision. It is inappropriate and unfair to take out your frustrations on them. This room plan has been in the planning stages for most of the year. Many options and ideas were considered, many staff teams were involved. Based on the existing site and on the needs of the community (safety, focus on support, etc) this is the plan that was moved forward. Do not take your frustrations out on volunteers and on the mods. To everyone who is accepting of this change thank you. We appreciate the messages and feedback of support. Especially from those who aren't sure about the change but are willing to give it a try. And to those of you who are unhappy about it, we hear you. We know it was sudden and a large scale change. Please give it a chance knowing we are focused on improving the long term experiences here. Enough from me, post your feedback below!

...See more If you are a member and have both the Strong Bond 1 (5 chats with 5 different listeners) and the helpful heart (50 compassion hearts) and cannot access the 24/7 support or 24/7 community room please post here so we can look into it. Thank you for your patience as we transition to this system! [Edited by Tazzie to include compassion hearts in place of cheers and Strong Bond 1 in place of Steadfast Soul 1]
Clarification about the company update

...See more Hello everyone! We wanted to clarify a couple things that are confusing in the recent posts: We've had some setbacks for sure, but financially we are okay. We have been working on the room safety change for a long time, this has been in the works for months. The rooms change is 100% safety related. It is not a financial decision. Many of you may remember we tried to do something similar at the beginning of the year. The timing of announcement to deployment was not our usual process, and we acknowledge that this created a lot of emotions and frustrations. Sometimes we need to do things quickly and we apologize if it upset you. We hope this change, once we are all use to it, will help keep the rooms more consistently supportive and inclusive. That is our goal. If we find it isn't working we may have to close more rooms. This would be really unfortunate, so we are hopeful this new group support strategy shows a positive change. A friendly reminder to anyone who would like to see their favorite room opened more, volunteer mods can open the room for a moderated open chat or discussion anytime so long as they have a banner up and are active in the room as a mod. We have let the comments on both Glen's posts be a place for people to express their frustrations. This post and future posts we expect everyone to follow our forum guidelines and to act professional. To everyone who is willing to give this new system a try, a heartfelt thank you from the Community team.

...See more A few months ago we announced we would no longer be spending time on the feed and the bugs associated. The day has come where we retire the feed for good and remove it from the platform. We know some love the feature and will be sad to see it go and we get that. Thank you for being understanding and realizing that sometimes we have to make tough decisions for the greater good of the site.

...See more I mentioned we would be trying out a crowdfunding campaign soon, and am excited to share an opportunity to be involved with it. A big part of the motivation to doing this crowdunding campaign is to spread awareness about what 7 Cups is to as many people as possible. One of the best ways to explain how we help is by telling real stories from our community. We plan to choose a few stories about how 7 Cups has helped you through a hard time or situation. Stories selected will then be read on camera by an actor. The stories will be anonymous, we will just make clear it is an actor portrayal of a real user story. What kind of topics: Because it is going to be a broad reaching video, we want the topics to be relatable to most. So things like lonliness, sadness, bullying, relationship issues, identity issues, anxiety, etc are some great examples. If your experience is about a different topic that is okay too, you can still submit it! These are my tips on what to include in your story, but you are welcome to tell it the way you like: What issue you were struggling with and how it was impacting your life How you found 7 Cups and why you decided to give it a try Positive impact of using the site, preferably the listener chat feature How it made you feel after you talked to a listener about your issue It should tell a story- This and that was going on in my life and I had no one to talk to, I found this website and gave it a try. I was able to talk to someone who just listened. I finally felt understood and was able to do this and that. Not sure? If you would like to add your story but aren't sure if it would qualify, go ahead and send it to us. What is next? If you submit a story that meets the basic guidelines (appropriate language, makes sense/is readable, includes how 7 Cups helped you, etc) you will be awarded a very special badge: Cup Connect. You may or may not hear from Alex to get more details about your story to help hash out some details or get more info. If your story is used in the video we will also award you 500 cheers! Big time! Want to submit your story? Click here. [https://forms.gle/xEGUyMgLPpTB1ttz6] The deadline is Friday at 5pm Eastern, so don't delay! Please provide the email address associated with your account when you submit the form so we can ensure it is really you. This is a great way to help pay it forward to someone like you who may benefit from talking to someone at 7 Cups about a life challenge, please consider sharing your story and helping us launch Empower. [https://www.7cups.org/empower] Want to help steer how we do the crowdfunding event? Check out this post!
