Course 3: PL 102 - One Key Metric (Discussion 5)
We've been talking about denial and distraction in this course. It is pretty easy to get knocked off track in life. One way to stay on track is to have a core metric that guides you. If you have a north star that you are working towards, then you know how well you are doing. It is harder to be in denial or to participate in activities that are less helpful in meeting that goal. Â
There are 2 parts to this discussion. Â
1. Work with your team or mentor and identify the key metric you are hoping to help move. Post daily (or the cadence that makes sense) in the  3 key things thread to highlight what you are doing to help us move 7 Cups forward. Please post here why this goal of choosing a single metric is important. Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well. Â
2. (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If not comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you. What you imagine them telling you is your compass. If you are acting in a way that is consistent with what they are saying, then it is very likely that you will end up living a meaningful life. Remember to listen to and follow this compass so as not to be distracted by the clock. Â
After completing the requirements of this post, please proceed to this post!

1. Actually, I have
posted in the "3 Key Things" thread in the past, but I will definitely
start sharing my key metrics regularly! Choosing a single metric is
definitely important so that you can focus on accomplishing a certain goal without distractions or denials. It can help you professionally, since by setting a goal for yourself, you can complete a certain task. However, it can also help you personally by allowing you to center yourself and giving you a direction to a healthier and proactive lifestyle.
2. This exercise was both enlightening and solemn. Seeing how much your loved ones, your peers, and your colleagues care about you can really put things into perspective! It allows you to understand what is most important in your life, and what priorities your should take. I can just imagine all of the guests talking about how I was such a wonderful and caring person who always supported them! That's how I want them to see me, and that gives me a direction on how I should prioritize my life!

Thanks for this amazing course it has really impacted very well on my personal development.

I would like to share how this exercise impacted me. Honestly, after this exercise I can understand how important time is in our life. We are all playing a game of life where we have limited time and in order to achieve the best we need to manage the time to the best extent. The four quadrant theory too is a very nice approach to do so and I will practice it according to it. Meanwhile the stone theory is also very impactful one should always keep that in mind too.

My responses against the questions are as follows.

I have decided to work in the community chats. It is because it will allow me to interact with more and more people in the community and spread positivity.

Choosing a single metric is important as it provides us with a specific path and directs us in reaching our goal. In professional and personal lives, it is very important to meet certain objectives and have healthy and fulfilling relationships.

I am not comfortable sharing. But yes it helps us in increasing self-awareness. Highly impactful.

Done! It was cool to see all the things people are achieving and doing on 7 Cups. I think choosing a key metric helps you to see your progress and make sure you are truly focused on what matters, instead of getting distracted by things. It can also help you personally to limit distractions and achieve the personal milestones and goals you have if you have a way to measure your progress.

This exercise impacted me a lot. It is difficult to think about the future and the legacy we want to leave behind, but I know that I want people to remember me for doing good and making a positive impact. Thinking about this has made me more determined to stay in the moment and start getting things done and minimizing distractions, so that I can do everything that I want to and make the most of my life.
@GlenM
1. My key goal is to always be kind no matter the situation. "the world is full of kind people, if you can't find one, be one" simple.
Choosing a key metric is important because it helps us stay in track and guide us. It will also help us at the time of confusion.
2. I would like to share about how it impacted me, it made me feel happy, I think about this very often, whenever I leave this world I want people to know me for my kindness and know that after every dark night there is always a bright morning coming.

Key metrics that will help me move towards my goal and stay on track: happiness. The goal of choosing a single metric is important because it helps us determine our general, overall drive that makes us work towards our goals, not just in our professional lives but also in our personal lives. In addition, choosing a general metric could branch off into other metrics that motivate us too. For instance, my ultimate metric is happiness. However, happiness could also branch into accomplishing financial stability and success (professional), as well as self-confidence and love (personal).

My partner: I’m so sad you’re gone, I’ve missed you so much ever since you were gone. But I’m glad that you’re in a better place right now. You deserve to be free from your suffering, can’t wait to see you on the other side.
Son/Daughter: Thank you so much for being the best mother I’ve ever had. It’s so hard now that you’re not here. But you’ll always be in my heart.
Best friend: Thank you so much for being my best friend for all these years. I will never forget all the great times we’ve had, as well as all the hardships we’ve endured during our friendship. Take care!

I have already identified the key metrics and have posted them already. This goal of choosing a single metric is important as it helps us identify our "direction", where we want to go, what we want to do. Goals help us stay focused and motivated on one thing.

The exercise was enlightening, to say the least. It helped me see how people might think about me- with love, care, and support- who or what I should prioritize, what has been distracting me, etc. I will surely try the exercise again and again, whenever I feel lost.
@Textingpals
I think this exercise is great to set yourself back on the right track, and, as you said, see what things are distracting you. I'm glad you were able to also gain something from this exercise!

Choosing a single metric is important because it gives us a clear, straightforward goal to work towards. This helps make things less overwhelming as we don't have to do 27319823782379839201238 things all at once just to reach our 1293891238733289038943847 goals :) Professionally, it helps us be more in touch with our aspirations and maximize productivity while personally, it helps sustain our mental capacity to do more good in the world.

I imagine people gathering around me and telling stories about my life. I want laughter, appreciation, positivity, and hope. If it were the end of my life, I want my accomplishments to be acknowledged, my struggles to be validated, and the story of my life to be passed down to my kids, their kids, and my grandkids too. I'd also want failure to be talked about as a chance to grow and learn instead of the values instilled in me that are very much opposed to children growing up recognizing failure as something acceptable.
@xinyii11
I think it's great that you want to be remembered in such a positive way. I think it really shows what type of person you are, and who you want to be!

I often think about the way I want to be remembered and what will people say ? But I guess this activity really help ground me and ponder upon it - how do I really want people to remember me ? This activity was one of the best things in the course and I hope to become a better version who will be remembered by people for good and doing good.

My key metrics are kindness ,compassion and sharing.
It's important to identify key metrics because it helps us grow as a person and become better.

I really enjoyed this activity too. It helps to see where you want to be. I wish you the best in your journey!
I wish you the best as well !
