Course 3: PL 102 - One Key Metric (Discussion 5)

GlenM August 26th, 2020

We've been talking about denial and distraction in this course. It is pretty easy to get knocked off track in life. One way to stay on track is to have a core metric that guides you. If you have a north star that you are working towards, then you know how well you are doing. It is harder to be in denial or to participate in activities that are less helpful in meeting that goal. Â

There are 2 parts to this discussion. Â

1. Work with your team or mentor and identify the key metric you are hoping to help move. Post daily (or the cadence that makes sense) in the  3 key things thread to highlight what you are doing to help us move 7 Cups forward. Please post here why this goal of choosing a single metric is important. Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well. Â

2. (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If not comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you. What you imagine them telling you is your compass. If you are acting in a way that is consistent with what they are saying, then it is very likely that you will end up living a meaningful life. Remember to listen to and follow this compass so as not to be distracted by the clock. Â

The key metric I am hoping to improve is to ensure a supportive and safe place throughout 7 cups and it is linked to my role as safety patrol and group support moderator Red heart

Having more than one metric can easily make us lose focus and overwhelm us Red heart and if we are overwhelmed we can not ensure quality on the things we are doing Red heart Better to do one thing with quality than multiple without quality Red heart

Every winner was once a loser who got up and gave it one more shot

@mamtasha22 It is hard to juggle multiple things at times. I do agree that we should always have quality on the things that we are doing. That is why it is so important to have balance.

1. Spent time actively listening to people.
2. Completing my coursework for LDP
3. Spreading about 7cups within my circle.

The goal of choosing a single metric is important because it helps us stay focus on the most important thing. Its the compass to our journey. In personal or professional life we should focus on things that matter and try to do things that are going to help us achieve our goals.

Chapter 12 is really impactful chapter and my favourite from the entire book because I used to wonder it often. I think it has opened my eyes to a new reality. It's like accepting that you are going to leave this world. Sometimes we forget about our mortality. This exercise helps us to focus on living a life that we can be proud of at the end of the day !

Identify the key metric you are hoping to help move.
The key metric I am hoping to help move is completion of the Internship Program. As an Intern Mentor I can make sure I help all Interns that need support.

Why is this goal of choosing a single metric important?
It is important to choose a single metric as it helps us stay focused and measure the work we do.

Read chapter 12 and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, share what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If not comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you.
He was such a loving man.
He always cared so much.
He was a good friend and a great soulmate.

He never gave up on you.
He would always believe in you.
He was always so encouraging.

We had so much fun together.
He could see past the false smile and was always there to support you.
He lived such a fulfilling life.

He had an immense impact on everyone around him.
He could always brighten a dark day.
He was a truly kind soul.

1. Done
2. Done.
- It has impacted me by putting things into perspective. I will be paying better attention to how I want to live my life.

The goal of choosing a single metric is so we can continue to remember what we need and want to focus on. This way we can heal and grow.

Thank you for this book :)

The key metric I am hoping to help move is to complete my internship and LDP programs and learn from them as much as possible, and implement that learning further to help the community grow.

Choosing a single metric keeps you focused and deliver better results. It is very important in both professional and personal life. It’s only when we are focused on a goal and work on the tiny steps to it that we will be able to achieve something.

Exercise made me think about how I would like to be remembered. I want to be remembered as a successful, cheerful, altruistic person. Things I want people to remember about me are that I am kind, have a big heart, and I am a firm believer in love. It made me reflect on how I should be planning the rest of my life, the small steps I need to take to be successful, and always be there for people I meet along the journey. Also, it made me reflect upon the areas I need to improve upon. Lastly, it made me realize who are those people that would matter to me till the end of life, whom I really wish to keep close.

Done!
I have been supportive and loving, also kind to every single person that I have met. I have also made sure that I have been here when I have been needed. This is one of the most rewarding things that I have done in my life and I am very grateful for this site and I am very proud of it.

To be honest I felt like I want to do too many things before I die. I don't necessarily want to be remembered by a lot of people, mainly just the ones that are close to me and I want that the memories just bring them joy. I'd be happy if everybody was having a happy time at my funeral. No need to dress up black or be sad, all the opposite! Also, I realized that my biggest dream is becoming a philanthropist.

3 things you have done to help move 7Cups forward. I will be doing this on daily basis.
1) Giving empathy, respect, and understanding to members in chatrooms.
2) Taking on this course and others to help grow within 7Cups and learn about my roles in 7 Cups.
3) Trying to do posts about my story to share with others so it helps them feel not alone or gives understanding and guidance. I'm also looking into and trying to organize weekly posts on healing.

Read chapter 12 and do the exercises where you imagine it's the end of your life?
I always think about what my funeral would look like?
What would people say about me?
My thoughts on this:
1) I'm in the ground so what it looks like doesn't matter to me.
2) If were to think in life - ("not to worry about what people say about you") Then why should I worry about it when I'm gone.
3) What matters most to me is I'm taking my last breath with no regrets.
* No - I wish I did this?
*No - I should have done this better?
*N0 - I wish I had more time for this?
*No - I wish I told ? that I.......
NO REGRETS! on my last breath. I can pass with peace because I know I lived my life to the fullest and put 100% into it. I didn't leave anything unsaid.

Help members feel heard and supported, talk to other 7 cups listeners and make sure they feel supported and not burnt out, accepting more member chats from general requests.

I keep a diary where I write all my thoughts and I noticed that I am quite self-aware although I tend to view myself in the way other people do. do possess an entry log and primarily pen my thoughts on there. I will keep this in mind to consider other perspectives. When I die, I hope that people will also think that my compass was fighting for what was right and I always tried my best in anything I did.
