Course 3: PL 102 - One Key Metric (Discussion 5)

GlenM August 26th, 2020

We've been talking about denial and distraction in this course. It is pretty easy to get knocked off track in life. One way to stay on track is to have a core metric that guides you. If you have a north star that you are working towards, then you know how well you are doing. It is harder to be in denial or to participate in activities that are less helpful in meeting that goal. Â

There are 2 parts to this discussion. Â

1. Work with your team or mentor and identify the key metric you are hoping to help move. Post daily (or the cadence that makes sense) in the  3 key things thread to highlight what you are doing to help us move 7 Cups forward. Please post here why this goal of choosing a single metric is important. Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well. Â

2. (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If not comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you. What you imagine them telling you is your compass. If you are acting in a way that is consistent with what they are saying, then it is very likely that you will end up living a meaningful life. Remember to listen to and follow this compass so as not to be distracted by the clock. Â

Hi I'm sorry. I'm a little confused. Could someone please explain me what are we suppose to do in this discussion? @GlenM

1. The idea of choosing a single metric is vital in both our professional and personal lives as it allows us to stay hyper focused on one important goal. This way, there is less room for denial and distractions.

2. The activity was quite eye opening as I had never thought about my death in such a way! Seeing myself through the eyes of others and imagining what they'd say was probably the best part..I'd honestly never thought of it that way.heart

A key metric I hope to move is providing support to fellow listeners in the community!

Alright, here we go!

1. The three key things with which I am helping to move 7 cups forward are:

a. I try to stay consistent so that I can reach out to my 1 on 1 members and reply to them on time.

b. I have been working to create a warm environment in the chat rooms and maintain my boundaries by welcoming members and listeners alike.

c. Since it hasn't been much time I got into the leadership roles, I am communicating with my mentors to understand more so on the mature of my work.

2. Wow, this is interesting! I wouldn't be that comfortable sharing what I want people to think about me but perhaps one thing would be that I wasn't someone who really hindered or came on the path of their hopes and desires. If they say that I was an impetus, perhaps my soul would rest in peace!

This exercise made me very self-aware and once again I was able to consider what I wanted from life. I have never asked a similar question to myself before and this exercise was fascinating and at the same time also encourage me somehow..

Thanks a lot for writing the book, it was a pleasure to read!

The single metric I am trying to focus on now would be remaining consistent throughout.

It is important in my professional life since having a balance is the backbone of much of the work we do, its very important to keep a routine and stick to it and have consistency and time for ourselves as well.

1. Choosing a single metric is very important as it gives you a clear path to work towards your goal. If you end up with multiple metrics, you might end up being confused and the path would seem unclear. My key metric is to be a better person and try to help as many people as I can here on 7 cups by listening to them, understanding them and being being for them. 2. This question definitely made me emotional due to alot of reasons. Realised that everyone misses someone only when they are gone. But I hope that when I'm gone..someone whom I've helped in their life, thinks about me and smiles one day. My friends remember me as a kind person and someone who was always trying her level best in doing whatever she did. And my brother to smile when he'd think about me.

I think a key metric i am working on in all aspects is listening. i an always striving to be a better listener, both here and in my personal life. Sub goals that relate to this are patience, and focusing on the other person and not making things about me.

2: Wow this was a really enlightening activity.

Hello Everyone!

The key metric I am hoping to help move is being kind and supportive, having high warmth and be compassionate and consistently work towards improving myself and the whole of a community. I believe the goal of choosing a single metric is important to allow you to focus on one area at a time and be concentrated so that you can actually make a positive change in your focus area and achieve the mission. Focusing on more things at once makes you lose concentration and get overwhelmed, which ultimately would not let you be able to concentrate and focus on any area.

It was so nice and really made me so emotional. It impacted me and showed me what I want to be in the future, what changes to bring, what to accomplish, and what matters most to me. It was so motivating. and also made me remember the thought "In a world where you can be anything, be kind". Red heart

Thank You!

Be the change that you wish to see in the world.

Hello friends :)

1. Please post here why this goal of choosing a single metric is important. Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well.

It's important, from both a professional and personal sense, as it allows me to gradually grow and develop in a specific area. Having too many areas for improvement and growth might make me too overwhelmed and I might give up all together.

2. (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If not comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you. The exercise made me more aware of certain things and people. It forced to me to be honest with myself and face certain issues that were in the backburner. It was definitely an eye-opener.

@FawkesCare12

In terms of the key metric: Creating awareness that asking help is perfectly alright and is brave.
