Hello everyone πππ
What are the 5 signs of passive-aggressive communication?
Silent Treatment
Subtle Insults
Procrastinating on Purpose
Sabotage
Keeping Score
What is one example of passive-aggressive behaviour you have experienced in your life?
I have experienced passive-aggressive behaviour in friendships, family circles as well as on 7cups community and in the workplace. It can be very toxic and isolating when a colleague or a family member deliberately sabotages you.
Why is passive aggression so damaging to our community?
Passive-aggressive behaviours and language can be so damaging. It can create an unsafe and negative environment, therefore, hindering growth. healing and support to everyone in the 7cups community.
@courageousheart96
That's true, I really like your point about how passive aggressive behaviour can lead to a negative working environment and hinder growth and support which is what we're all here to do.
@courageousheart96
Hey tooπ, yeah you are right, passive aggression specifically deliberate sabotage can be so painful and can lead to a sequence of conflicts after that.
What are the 5 signs of passive-aggressive communication?
- Silent Treatment - Ignoring someone or not replying to them because of something that happened, or until they do what you want them to.
- Subtle Insults - saying things that could be interpreted as rude but subtly so that people are unlikely to call you out on it. This can cause a lot of confusion and make people feel really insecure.
- Procrastinating on Purpose - Intentionally doing other things and avoiding completing a task that someone has asked you to do, which can have a big knock on affect on the person they do this against.
- Sabotage - Doing something to ruin what another person is doing to get back at them, for example accidentally losing their presentation or breaking something they made.
- Keeping Score- Keeping a tally of all the favours you give, and expecting something in return. If someone does not do them a favour, they will go out of their way to not give a favour in return.
What is one example of passive-aggressive behaviour you have experienced in your life?
Quite often I see the silent treatment behaviour happening, both on 7 Cups and in my life, especially at school. If people fall out or don't get on, they will go out of their way to not acknowledge the other person or welcome them, which can lead to a lot of awkward situations and feel really isolating for the person being given the silent treatment.
Why is passive aggression so damaging to our community?
Passive aggression can cause a negative working environment and a lot of toxicity within the community. It can cause a lot of tension and make our community feel less welcoming and a lot more judging and insecure. It makes it harder for people to be able to trust each other and open up, and takes away from the key values and mission of 7 Cups. It can lead to a lot of conflict which can be unsettling or triggering for the others around you and make the community not such a nice place to be.
@Izzy274
Yeah, cannot agree more,π it's isolating receiving a silent treatment.

What is one example of passive-aggressive behavior you have experienced in your life?
For example, my friend gave me the silent treatment because he was upset with me for something that I did recently.
Why is passive aggression so damaging to our community?
It can be so damaging because it could damage your personal and professional relationship. One of the key elements to sustain meaningful relationships in life is communication. Passive aggression is a poor way of communicating your needs to others. Without proper communication of your needs and wants, personal and professional relationships suffer as a result.
@kindFish9215
Yeah, the toxicity behind passive aggression can ruin personal and professional relationships especially sabotage and procrastinating on purpose.π
@kindFish9215 Yes, Communication is the key
@Heather225
very thoughtful

What is one example of passive-aggressive behavior you have experienced in your life?
Silent treatment by a colleague.
Why is passive aggression so damaging to our community?
It can drag the community down as passive-aggressive communication affects the quality of work done.
@JoyHappyNess It definitely affects the quality of the work done since all of our energy has been focused on being toxic to other people :) Great point!

2. What is one example of passive-aggressive behavior you have experienced in your life?
Answer: The silent treatment and keeping score.
3. Why is passive aggression so damaging to our community?
Answer: Passive aggression, I feel, is something that doesn't let the other person explain themselves or talk about it and clear things up. However, they are forced to accept the implications. That is unfair, it may harm mutual respect, trust and strain the relationships.
@Textingpals
Yes, you're completely right. It's so bad for communication. It would be so much better to bring up the issues you have with the person respectfully and resolve them rather than doing passive-aggressive behaviours. It just prolongs the problem when both parties could just improve the relationship they have and create something more beneficial.
@Textingpals
Passive aggressiveness definitely does not allow all parties to express how they feel in a respectful and professional manner! I agree in that trust, mutual respect, and fairness is needed to have a healthy community on 7Cups!
@Heather225
1. Silent treatment, subtle insults, procrastination on purpose, sabotage, keeping score.
2. Procrastination on purpose.
3. Passive aggresion is damaging to the community because it is a form of dishonest and it can cause erosion of trust and morale. Communication and trust are important factors for a community to grow for the better!
@Moonlemon48
Communication and trust are so important to any type of relationship, even professional, you're so right. Procrastination on purpose is so detrimental to both of these important things. You know you can't rely on the person and they won't communicate with you so there is no trust. I completely see your point of view, and you brought up some excellent points.
@Moonlemon48 Agreed! Communication and trust are so so much better than passive aggression XD

An example of passive-aggressive behavior in my life would be sabotage and keeping score.
Why is passive aggression so damaging to our community?
Passive aggression is damaging to our community because it leads to toxicity , manipulation , low self esteem.
@jersey123456
Hey there Jersey. I'm really sorry to hear you experienced both keeping score and sabotage. I also experienced sabotage. I think having these experiences can give us more of a reason to not do them because we are more aware of how they feel. You were really strong to overcome those experiences.
@jersey123456
I understand how difficult it must've been to go through sabotage and keeping score. Personally experienced that too. I'm glad to hear you have such amazing thoughts for the community
@Heather225
What are the 5 signs of passive-aggressive communication?
The silent treatment, keeping score, sabotage, subtle insults, and procrastinating on purpose
What is one example of passive-aggressive behavior you have experienced in your life?
Sabotage
Why is passive aggression so damaging to our community?
Passive-aggressive behaviour is damaging to the community because it gives the receiver mixed signals. 7Cups is an emotional support service aiming to improve people's well-being and confidence. Acts of passive-aggressive behaviour lowers both well-being and confidence. If passive-aggressive behaviour is used among leaders, teamwork would be hindered greatly as it would be hard to work together. This lowers the amount of support different 7Cups communities are able to give.
@LavenderFlower Wonderfully put. Passive aggresion definitely will decrease the amount of support members get from each other and from listeners in the community
@LavenderFlower
Great work on mentioning about mixed signals! I admire how you've put it across.

What is one example of passive-aggressive behavior you have experienced in your life?
I'm enrolled in a competitive school full of high-achieving students. Amid the toxic competition, there is a lot of passive-aggressiveness when students insult one another and try to bring down other people with verbal attacks just because they're unhappy about a score they got in an exam.
Why is passive aggression so damaging to our community?
Passive aggression promotes negativity, which goes against the values the 7 Cups community upholds. It pulls people apart instead of together and breaks the relationships that have formed over the years.
@xinyii11
Being in a highly competitive environment can really be challenging and sometimes not even healthy. I love how you're efficiently dealing with all that!
@xinyii11
I am so sorry to hear that passive aggressiveness happens in your school! It definitely makes it hardere to create a harmonious community in places like your school and on 7Cups ):
@xinyii11
totally agree with it promotes negativity! without even thinking people don't even realize how negative things can spread so easily
@xinyii11
Really sorry to hear that. In a school when this happens that's really never healthy. Proud of you who really is fighting it in the right direction.
