Periods can be challenging, but building a "menstruation toolbox" filled with things that help you feel better can make all the difference! It’s all about finding what soothes you and brings comfort.
Here are a few ideas you might want to include:
- A warm heating pad or hot water bottle to ease cramps
- Herbal teas like chamomile or peppermint to soothe and relax
- Your favorite comfy blanket or soft, cozy pajamas for comfort
- Essential oils like lavender or eucalyptus for a calming atmosphere
- A nourishing snack, like dark chocolate or fruits

I use a few different medications to help. Plus I'm lucky to have a supportive husband who will notice signs and remind me to take something or fetch it for me if I feel too unwell to get up. Once a day medications, I'm great at. Take when x happens, it can be amazing how I don't even think to use a medication when suffering!
Comfort things - gentle stretching to ease muscles and tendons that have really contracted and tightened. Smoothies - I find they just go down so much easier. Massagers - gun, theracane, etc.

In the past, my toolbox consisted of just a hot water bottle, birth control pills (as I was told it helps regulates my cycles and make it less heavy) and lots of sleep.
Now with the IUD, I don't need a toolbox. I switched to an IUD because the birth control pills led to a DVT as it increased its risks. I had been on the pills for more than a decade. After the DVT incident, my GP says, it's safer for me to use an IUD instead. So now, I don't really get my period. Unless I ate something that causes it (based on the type of body I have in the Traditional Chinese Medicine).

endometriosis has its own set of difficulties, with higher levels of estrogen, higher levels of pain, and feeling like you’re experiencing active labor or worse. Not being able
to use the restroom with out screaming in pain. Since there isn’t much that can be done (and management methods cause a world of secondary side effects) it’s just something you have to find tools to help.
