Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in Wednesday 31st January 2018

TheHoneyDoll January 31st, 2018

Good morning lovelies heart

Sorry for that long disappearance there, I was sick and went to an ER and yikes. It's been a long 2 weeks. But that makes me think of medicine a lot too and recovery so I've decided to make my post about medicine today :)

Many of us take pills, go to therapy, and so on but I find that they aren't the only things that help us. For me personally, poetry is what kept me going. Writing and reading poetry helps me escape into another world and see other people struggle but recover from similar things I have. Stories have always been a huge healer in my recovery process. It's like opening a little bottle that's full of emotion so that it won't break open and I can take a breather through my creativity.

Another big thing for me is rest. I push myself a lot in school, work, tutoring, therapy, and so on even with a rough home. I find that nothing can help more than treating myself to hot tea, a warm bath, a good nap, and a good back. Sometimes, just resting your mind and body for a bit can go a long way in a hectic schedule that often wears you down.

How do you handle a rough day, a busy mind, or help yourself recover from things? What is your own little "medicine" or medicine helper that makes a difference in your life? Or tell me how your day has been or anything else you'd like to share! I've missed you guys! ^^ <3

I can't wait to hear from you all again!

I finally start to grasp the fact that I can feel angry towards people who hurt me and not be punished for it, I start to see how bad they treated me as well overall and that it wasn't ok for them to do so at all.Managed to let out a good amount of accumulated anger, hurt and not keep it in, avoided doing it the old way-keeping it all in, minimizing, staying silent and feeling like have no right to have such feels. They're valid and learning to find my voice after all this time is so refreshing and even quite surprising/new thing to do.More and more seeing how much I heal daily and enjoying it all big time!Really can get used to this brand new way of being :D :)

Omg!! That's so amazing, congrats! πŸŽ‰ I'm so happy to hear that you are no longer bottling your emotions until the bottle cracks. I used to be the same way but once our attitude towards ourselves changes, it can be so much easier to recover and heal healthily. Thank you so much for checking in today and I'm so happy to hear how well handling emotions is going for you <3

Thank you Rozie! I'm doing some school work but right now, I'm reading 2 AM thoughts which is a really good book about heartbreak and recovery from it and starting a new story! :) Thanks for checking in and I hope all is well where you are 🌻🍯🌻

@TheHoneyDoll When I'm having a rough day I tend to listen to music, play video games, watch anime, or write poetry.

A fellow poetry friend! I also find music really helpful, especially quiet or slow music :) What's your favorite anime? And I hope all is going well today for you!

A way I deal with a rough day is baking. It always seems so relaxing, and I get to say I made that, and its good at the end. Plus desserts are always tasty!

Absolutely! Cupcakes, cookies, jello pinwheels, tarts, pies... Mm. All so fun to make, especially from scratch! Now I'm hungry lol :)

I have made a whole list of healthy good habits I want to build into my life this year to help me with this kind of question. But the first one I wanted to sort out was a sleeping pattern. So far it hasn't worked so all the other things I wanted to structure into my day to keep myself on balance also aren't getting into place. So at the moment I am relying heavily on my phone for distract and contact. It broke, so the last two days I have been very anxious. I really don't know how people ever coped without the internet. I am so glad I have a laptop.

Hey there hun! Sorry to hear things are going rough. Just remember to be patient with yourself <3 You've made the first step and that's already taken a lot of strength and courage! The first step is everything and from there, it's just taking little steps.

We care about you and have your back! Stay strong :) You've got this, hun! β˜„

Hope you're nice and healthy or near there, HoneyDoll! Sounds like quite an experience, blarg hate going to the ER. X_X;

I second the thing about treatin' yourself to a nice bath, tea, nap, and the like. Sometimes I'll play a bit of video games or watch Hulu, but I find that usually leads me to space out really bad. Reading is always a good option. Have been reading some self-help books of a spiritual and secular angle. Also read detective stories on the side. Been considering getting back to writing, but I always hate how my work turns out. I need to at least finish it and write it down. Might post some old poetry I have on here, but it's a rarity nowadays. I also used to do brush painting, but I've neglected that. Been meaning to get back into that as well. For the most part, my spirituality has been my medicine. Coming to visit 7cups also helps!

The problem is I deem such things "unworthy" of the time because I have so much catching up to do to other people as I work myself out of this trauma and mental illness. However, I know very well that those "unworthy" things can foster much growth and healing. Slowly learning to accept that and tell my inner critic where to shove their criticism.

Hey there deary! Glad to see you check in!

I understand how it feels to not do the things you love anymore but taking the first step can go very far! I have a very busy schedule myself, often working 9-7 (some days) but I find it can be good to fit at least one little thing in a day or a week :) It can be easy to compare ourselves to others but they started somewhere just like the rest of us! I'd love to read your poetry if you post it at some point.

I hope you had a lovely day! We've got your back, hun 🌻🍯🌻

Im sorry you were so unwell but glad you are feeling better πŸ’–πŸ’–

I enjoy writing poetry also that is my best outlet and calmer.. Driving also helps.. However yesterday nothing I did worked. I was (and still am) very emotionally shattered and my hope has been intensely crushed! All the nightmares and memories have been so intense since being triggered and I feel completely worthless again! I am slightly number today but I can feel it building up the more i wake up.. Hoping I can get some poetry done to try and sort the feelings before I become overwhelmed again. I am thankful though for all the support I have here. Helped me make it through yesterday when I felt like I had nothing left.

Driving is my favorite, especially at sunset or on hot summer days with the windows down. It can also help to pull over and cry sometimes in isolation when the emotions are too much :)

I'm sorry to hear that most things aren't working to help you right now. That can be really tough to deal with and nightmares can make rest so much worse and sleeping feel scary/stressful.

Hang in there deary. We've got your back! You're in no way worthless and you're a tough cookie, honey! Keep your chin up heart 🌻🍯🌻

Medicine #1 for me is my actual medication, cuz without it I only do kinda okay. My medicine helpers are music, Netflix, food, sudoku and other puzzle games, and sometimes even stuff like school work/office work/cleaning. Also spending time with family, but that can also be really draining. I can only handle them in small doses lol
