Course 2, Discussion 2: Lead by example
Great Leadership, unsurprisingly, starts with yourself!
Practice what you preach. Lead by example. I am sure all of you heard these phrases. But why are they so iconic?
Because the journey starts with the first step and you are the person who is taking the initiative to lead -- Start a journey! So, you are the one who needs to take the first step before expecting others to do it.
To start with leading yourself, close your eyes and visualize two people: someone who inspired and encouraged you to be like them, and someone who discouraged you to be not like them.
Then, write down the good qualities of the person who inspired you as well as the qualities of the second person. You do not have to be specific with the details. Just a bulleted list.
Now, compare the list to yourself. Note the good qualities you have, the bad qualities you have, and give yourself a rating on a scale of 1-10. What we just did is identified your strengths and weaknesses and what you need in order to lead yourself. This allows you to create self-awareness.
Self-awareness is key to leading yourself in the right direction. But, leading yourself is not easy. Just being self-aware isn't enough. It's igniting the spark but not enough to catch the fire. To catch the fire, you need to be persistent with your practice, which is regular reflection. Be consistent with monitoring your efforts and holding yourself accountable.
You can't effectively lead others until you know how to lead yourself. That happens through Self-Observant Leadership: when you deeply understand your identity, compare it to your reputation (how others experience you) and then make meaning of the observations, and choose to adapt.

What I learnt ?
That i have most of the disliked persons quality. I can't change them. But i can control it . I guess. I want to learn the good qualities from the every person i like.
The person i inspire - 7/10
The person i dislike - -4/10
Myself - 1/10.
I can't change my blood but i can change my diet 😎

I think listening to people as a listener or a leader is very important and it's actually my greatest strength, and I should always stick with that.
And it's okay to show vulnerabilities or emotions, and it doesn't make you a bad leader or person.
Also I need to be more open to people close to me and talk to them irrespective of doubt what they would think and/or how they will take it.
@iPHOENIX You are a phenomenal listener. I am so glad you know your strength! You will make an extraordinary leader and I wish you success in your life! Keep on being amazing!
@iPHOENIX
Being an active listener and vulnerable are indeed signs of a leader hat has strong EQ 🍀

@Mitanshi003 I enjoyed reading this, you've put a lot of thought into this, and I'm excited to see how you progress within the course. You've got this!
@Mitanshi003 These are actually good points, well done!
I watched the video; I enjoyed seeing the examples of things to do and not to do. 7Cups is a massive community filled with different types of leaders and admin, so it was interesting to see a combination of good and bad traits apparent in the leaders we have today. It made me reflect and think of leaders I have difficulty working alongside.; it was great to have that validated, especially when they don't "get the fact straight" and don't "follow-up and follow through" this is something I know I will need to work on myself to ensure I don't repeat the same behaviours.
(Constructive Feedback: @FrenchToastClub the video linked here does not have captions that discriminate against disabled people. Perhaps that could be something to explore to ensure the accessibility levels to ensure everyone can complete this course?)
@FrenchMarble
Great answers! And i really appreciate how you care about others!
@FrenchMarbles
I appreciate your constructive feedback about captions!
@Hope

✒️ What did you learn about yourself through the given exercise?
I learned that being a good and effective leader starts with leading myself. i cant lead others unless i lead myself.

I think the most important thing was before you can start leading others, you need to start leading yourself. This is important because as a leader, you need to be strong in field you are in. You cannot teach others in topics, you are not yourself aware of.
@Trintzu well said and good luck with ldp,
@Trintzu
This is so true (: ♡ ^ a really important point
I need to learn how to lead better before I can lead others.
Know yourself is so important and some qualities makes us a good leader, and there may be other leaders with different quality, and working together we.
I seen people who encouraged me to be myself because we shared some values and were an inspiration for me. They led me to be more empathic and kind to myself. One was also very perseverant. I think its a quality that I built over time thanks to them, and is very useful to me.
I also seen people, at the opposite, that discouraged me, because they hurt people and i never wanted to be like them.
Being aware of my quality, know myself help me in my leadership roles.
@vivelespatates
I think self-awareness and being oneself are important leadership skills Patates. This is because it connects with the inner empathy and kindness; helping the leader to treat others as if they were in their shoes.
@JoyHappyNess
I like this one alot. Self-awareness is very important. How we treat others kind of reflects how we treat ourselves.
