The One Thing I Do When I'm Depressed is...

PosiPotato February 13th, 2018

What is the one thing you do to help yourself feel better when you're experiencing depression? It can be anything at all, even simple things such as a longer warmer shower and listening to music or sounds of nature before bed.

Isolate myself (basically me almost everyday) and listen to music or watch movies. I draw sometimes too

Well, depression is usually something that stays with u throughout most of ur day, at least for me. I can feel a little happy but still be depressed, I can feel nothing and be depressed. What I do is contact my best friend and talk to her, just about anything. If she's not available I talk to my listener or Noni.

Please don't push people away, they love you and want to help you. If you don't feel comfortable telling EVERYONE, try just telling one person that you are really close to. Or your listener or therapist.

@Yav

I basically turn off my phone and try to disconnect from the world for a few hours. I'll do this by either sleeping or reading. When my depression gets bad, I tend to get so exhausted that I can't do anything.

@retrouvailles

I totally understand but please do make sure you let your loved ones/friends know whats going on so they know to leave you to heal.

then, when you feel like you're a bit better, a bit stronger, just talk to them. About anything. And hopefully you feel better

@Yav thank you. That is so important to keep someone close when you're feeling depressed. It might be easier at first to push people away, but in the long run it just makes things worse. Thank you so much for sharing that.

@pinkOrange5835

I do this, too. And I know it's not healthy and dangerous, but the pain refreshes me. It reminds me that I'm still here and I'm still breathing. It reminds me that I could take it all away in just one moment. All the pain, the hurt, the sadness. But I would also leave my friends and my family.

Please, please, please do your best to find ways to cope. Try holding ice in your hand until the urge passes. Maybe check out the Butterfly Project. Please talk to someone as it helps a lot.

I know how much better you cutting can make you feel, but please don't hurt yourself. You are an amazing human with a beautiful mind and a giant heart. Please know that all of 7 Cups is here for you whenever you need us.

Well in my worst moments I seem to get stuck in my head, and I feel trapped, and cry if I'm on my own. I don't like when anyone knows or sees me cry. To try and make it feel better at least for the moment I try to distract myself since I usually have nobody to talk to. I usually listen to music or maybe just take a nap if I'm able to.

I tend to ignore text messages and emails, blow off class and homework, and just sort of... lay around. I really hate it and I'm usually aware that it's happening, but it's really difficult to resist sometimes.

@will0thewisp It is very difficult to resist. I have found that noticing the signs before that start happening so I can try to prevent a depressive episode is really helpful. But, that doesn't mean that laying around for a day isn't a helpful process. Sometimes that's the best medicine.

At my lowest moments I can feel my mood crashing and the ball of anxiety rolling up in my chest. I seek comfort in people. I try to surround myself in positive feelings for a little bit. Im not sure if Im helping or just masking my own sadness, but for short periods of time Im... content
