World Mental Health Day: Embracing Mindfulness

...See more Hello, community,  I hope you are all taking it easy this week. As we all know World Mental Health Day is observed annually on October 10th. It is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness about mental health issues and challenges and promoting well-being. When it comes to promoting well-being, mindfulness is one of the powerful practices to attain it. Today I want us to explore this topic and how it can significantly enhance our mental health.  So what is mindfulness?  It is the practice of being fully present in the moment, without any judgment. It includes paying attention to our thoughts, feelings, and sensations without getting caught up in them. In today's busy world, mindfulness is the key to taking care of our well-being. Some of the benefits of practicing mindfulness are:  * It helps to reduce stress by calming the mind and body. It helps to lower cortisol levels, a hormone associated with stress. * When we are focused on the present moment, mindfulness can help to alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression. * It helps individuals better understand and manage their emotions, leading to greater emotional resilience. * Regular practice of mindfulness can improve sleep quality by reducing racing thoughts and promoting relaxation. * Also helps individuals become more aware of their thoughts and behaviors, leading to greater self-understanding. By practicing mindfulness in our daily lives, we can improve our mental health and overall well-being. So let's commit to making mindfulness a priority in our daily lives and foster a culture of taking care of ourselves and being compassionate to ourselves and each other. ...See more Hi Mindfulness folks, I am a bright penguin, but I'm not too good at meditating. I used to meditate for 15 minutes before sleep every day, but I struggled to keep this up for more than 2 weeks. Typically, I would be tempted to do other things before sleep, like listening to music and reading a book. What are some tips for meditating consistently every day for the rest of your life? ...See more All my life I have never cared about my feelings. Now as I don't work and started listening to myself, I found out I actually have lots of negative feelings. I don't even realize what exactly I feel, I just know that it is painful to feel it. Tell me please how do you work with your feelings / emotions, how do you free your body of what you feel? I know therapy is a good way, but I can't effort it now.

...See more Hey all, So I've beaten around the bush in regards to mindfulness in the other forums, but not so much in-depth. When I was going through therapy the second time, that particular therapist introduced me to the concepts of mindfulness and meditation. And specifically, meditations that promoted (or were just plain based on) mindfulness as a whole. As I've practiced mindfulness for a few years now, I've noticed it kick in pretty much automatically for me. Which is nice, because in certain conversations or situations, it really has saved me from just as automatically reacting to something purely based on how I was/am feeling. So yeah, I feel like mindfulness has basically given me a sort of executive function of when and how I want to act (or not act) on my feelings or emotions in a given situation. How has mindfulness helped in your life?

...See more I can mindfulness help with a sensitivity to loud noises? if some can I have some links that can help with it?

The Mindfulness Center welcomes you to a place where it is okay to just be, and not worry about 100 things. You can observe nature or your own room, follow your breath going in and out, or be aware of your feet touching the sidewalk as you head home. It is all mindfulness. 

There are no hard and fast rules on how to be mindful, and you do not have to do anything a certain way. There are guidelines to help us stay on the path of mindfulness, like in the Daily Checkins, where team members share insights and tips about mindfulness. You can join in the discussions there, or in any of the forum threads. 

You will also find videos in the resource center that talk about what is mindfulness and guide us on a journey to having an actual experience right now of what it feels like to be free of our “thought train”, as we let ourselves go and relax a bit. If all of this sounds good, join us for hosted sessions in which you can discuss and experience mindfulness first hand.

Community Guidelines

Stop and breath. Respect yourself and have compassion for what you are going through. 

Notice what is happening around you that your senses are telling you. Feel the breath go in and go out.

Feel good about yourself. Life has brought you on a journey up to here. That is reason to celebrate and appreciate all that life offers. And listen and feel the breath!
