The first 3 conversations helped us set the foundation for this discussion. The idea that the problem is the path or the obstacle is the way comes from the Stoics. If interested, I also recommend this book as a good overview of stoic thinking. I think there is a tremendous amount of wisdom in these ancient ideas. I'm glad to see much of it resurfacing now. ÃÃÂ
This disucssion is the most important discussion in this course. This is the core insight to learn for your own personal and professional development as well as the key insight that will continue to help us grow and evolve at 7 Cups. Please really take your time to think through these ideas. They matter and they are meaningful. These ideas can help change the trajectory of your life.

What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you?
When we face problems we learn how to ask for help and that we must reach out to ask for help. Problems teach you about life and yourself, and that handling on your own isn't an option. By facing problems we can also better understand, empathize and care for others.
Our problems help make us wiser and able to handle other issues later on in life. We gain knowledge and insight and grow resources and tools on how to handle things so that we are better prepared for future problems. Problems can actually be lessons and help us by teaching us something.
Problems don't go away through distractions. Like with Aunt marrie they hang around until they've been dealt with. They force us to have to confront them and take away our distraction systems and denial and face them front-on.
2. Watch this overview by Ryan Holiday in his book The Obstacle is the way. In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video.
Perception: Perception is how we look at and view the world and our problems that we face. We can often see them in a negative way, or we can see them as an opportunity. It is the story you tell yourself about that thing that can really impact what thing will be.
Action: Action is what we do, and how we react to the problem. It's how we face the problem, to try and solve it. You can respond with creativity and persistence and optimism, and using what you have to the best of your ability.
Will: Looking at the things that we cannot control, accepting it, and then working on building inner strength. It's about understanding the bigger picture. We don't control what happens to us. We do control how we respond to what happens to us and have resilience, determination, and endurance to do so.
Breaking down denial, breaking out of distractions, and Asking for help. Denial can be tricky because denial has no setup for how it works. Distractions are really hard to break from because they get you so caught up that you don’t even realize that you have been in the distraction for so long. Asking for help can just be as hard because you really have to put your trust in another person. Perception- How we are going to see the issue. Action- What we do to solve the issue. Will- Looking at the things that we can’t control and understanding the bigger picture.

We do not grow when things are going well. We grow when things are challenging. Problems are the key ingredient in personal growth.
Problems teach you to ask for help. They teach you humility. Most significant problems cannot be solved on your own. They require you to talk to someone. They require you to be vulnerable.
Problems teach you to open up and care, from your heart, for other people.

(b) Perception: How do we view ourselves? How do we view the world? How do we view opportunities to grow/
(c) Will: What are things we can control? What are things that we cannot control? What should we worry about? What shouldn’t we worry about?

1 Problems have disguised value. They are actually very helpful and should be treasured.
2 Maybe you open the door, invite her in, make a cup of tea, feed her some cookies, sink into your chair, and deeply listen to what she says. If you are this kind of person, then you are very rare,
3 Problems teach you to open up and care, from your heart, for other people

The three key points are break you out of distractions, teach us to ask for help and help us to level up.
2. Watch this overview video by Ryan Holiday on his book the Obstacle is the way.. In your own words, please identify and describe the 3 key components he outlined in the video.
The three components are perception- this means how I view the situation, either negatively (which we mostly do at first, for eg by complaining or looking at a task entirely) or positively, action this means acting on the problem, the problem is not going to go away unless I do something about it. This word is very crucial, at times people give up, meaning they choose to allow the situation to eat them up instead of conquering it and will means that I cannot control the situation, it is destined to happen, you know, have you ever ask yourself, ‘Why me?’. I guess this question will fall into this category
@KBeauty12
Asking for help is a really important point! Thank you for the lovely post! 💚
1. What are 3 key points from Chapter 4 that stand out to you. Please post them in this thread. ÃÃÂ
The problem breaks us out of the distraction system. The idea that problems that are not faced keep bugging us continuously and cause us mental discomfort is very unpleasant. Facing problems breaks this vicious cycle of us avoiding and ignoring the problem and the problem keep bugging us.
Problems help us level up. We go through problems, face them directly and polish ourselves. We learn important life lessons by facing problems directly even if they are painful.
Problems teach us to open up and care for ourselves and other people. When we go through problems and obstacles, we are then able to understand the pain of others.

Perception, Action and Will. What happens to us is not in our control but how we respond and act in the face of the obstacle is in our control.
Perception: It is how we perceive the situation and problem.
Action is how are we going to act in the situation
Will is the acceptance of the situation.
@Zarram77
I like your point about learning to understand and care, when we open up ourselves. And I always see your posts here, they are really well written! 💜
