The first 3 conversations helped us set the foundation for this discussion. The idea that the problem is the path or the obstacle is the way comes from the Stoics. If interested, I also recommend this book as a good overview of stoic thinking. I think there is a tremendous amount of wisdom in these ancient ideas. I'm glad to see much of it resurfacing now. ÃÃÂ
This disucssion is the most important discussion in this course. This is the core insight to learn for your own personal and professional development as well as the key insight that will continue to help us grow and evolve at 7 Cups. Please really take your time to think through these ideas. They matter and they are meaningful. These ideas can help change the trajectory of your life.

I really emphasize the idea of "framing" to others already because I think this is very important. We all often see situations/problems in one fixed way, but we don't think to see the same situation from another perspective, one that can be a positive, like a learning moment or moment of empathy. I also never really thought about the fact that going through adversities yourself can make you grow as a person AND as an empathetic person. It definitely does teach you compassion, insight, and growth by going through personal situations when helping others. The last point I felt was important was that problems not only teach you how to care for others, but also yourself. It shows you that it is okay to be vulnerable and ask for help when it is needed.

The 3 key components were perception, action, and will. Perception I would say is sort of like framing in the question above; it is how you describe the problem. It is often that we see problems as such a negative thing, but the more we learn about a problem and think about it, we can see how to overcome and take action toward it which is the next key component. Action is how you respond to the problem. This is responding with your skills/strengths to take on the problem, with creativity, ingenuity, and persistence. Lastly, will is discipline and making an effort to understand the cause and sometimes your own mortality. There are many negative consequences that happen that we cannot predict, like accidents, mishaps, and sometimes death. Learning from these experiences and taking advantage of them anyway you can is important. The obstacle is the path!

Perception – That’s how we see the problem. The story you tell yourself about a thing has a great impact on what that thing actually will be for you
Action – The desire to actually take action to do something about your problem.
Will – Looking at the parts of the things that we don’t control. The discipline of the will is building that inner fortitude and strength of understand our own mortality and the understanding of things that are bigger than us.

@hopezzy i also believe that a really important part of those chapters is that problems won't go away. that's why we have to face them ! they'll always be there, and learning how to overcome obstacles is vital <3

3 key points from Chapter 4 that stood out to me were:
a.) Early patterns of behavior teach us to avoid painful threatening thoughts or activities
b.) Denial is increased by distraction systems
c.) The only way to break free from our problems is to face them head on

3 key components outlined in the video include perception, action, and will. Perception is how we perceive the issue. Action is how we deal with the issue, and will includes our desire to face the issue.
@Gnibellen i also believed that facing our problems and facing them head-on was a very important part of those chapters <3 when we face our problems instead of running from them, we grow stronger and gain more wisdom :)

- perception =Perception is one of the basic processes of human orientation. It is a process of reflection of objects and phenomena that at a given moment act on the sensory organs (eye, ear, tactile bodies in the skin, taste buds, etc.), which are receptors or receivers of stimuli
- action=to perform, to have a function, to have the validity of something: f. as a subject
- will=there are many definitions of what willpower is. The few that are most useful to us define the will asthe ability to embark on important activities and end unimportant or inappropriate ability to overcome dislike the ability to prioritize long-term important over currently attractive but low value ability to control ourselves: the art of following current steps, revealing when we are beginning to deviate from our chosen goal, and correcting our actions (thinking, acting) if we deviate too much. Our motivation and emotional intelligence certainly play a key role here, one part of which is defined as the ability to postpone the temptation of a tempting but less valuable need and to prioritize the needs of a more significant, longer-term, but currently less appealing one. It practically means not having ice cream if I want to lose weight. Don't go to a party, but learn a foreign language. Do not escape from the discomfort, but stay and learn to solve a difficult situation again.
@Livingtohelplive i love what you said about will-- motivation really does play a big part/role in will and the amount of motivation we have can determine the strength of our own will :)

1. problems should not be neglected, they help us learn and grow, and they encourage us to support others as well :) when we don't try to face our problems and keep running away from them, how will we learn anything from them and be able to handle problems more easily ? growing and learning from problems will help us to overcome obstacles smarter and better with time :) and knowing that everyone faces problems, including us, will make us want to support others as well which will help them face their own challenges ! <3
2. ryan holiday listed these 3 components: perception, action, and will <3 perception is the way we see things, what we tell ourselves, and how we look at the obstacles we are facing. action is what we do to when we are encountered with these challenges :) and will is accepting that we can't control some things, even though we can control other things

Firstly, that problems are often catalysts for change as they break down denial, especially for people who hit bottom. Secondly, problems are opportunities to build skills and the emotional maturity to ask for help. And thirdly, encountering problems gives us unique perspectives that we can use to empathize with others who are going through the same thing.

Three key components:
Perception: how the situation is framed and thought of impacts our emotional and actual response to it.
Action: when considering courses of action in response to obstacles, you must consider what is in the scope of your own power
Will: the ability to accept what is out of your control, and make peace with the fact that you are often not in control

Action: It the way we do things. It is how we solve a problem. This shapes us, and changes/impacts our situation.
