Course 3: PL 102 - One Key Metric (Discussion 5)

GlenM August 26th, 2020

We've been talking about denial and distraction in this course. It is pretty easy to get knocked off track in life. One way to stay on track is to have a core metric that guides you. If you have a north star that you are working towards, then you know how well you are doing. It is harder to be in denial or to participate in activities that are less helpful in meeting that goal. Â

There are 2 parts to this discussion. Â

1. Work with your team or mentor and identify the key metric you are hoping to help move. Post daily (or the cadence that makes sense) in the  3 key things thread to highlight what you are doing to help us move 7 Cups forward. Please post here why this goal of choosing a single metric is important. Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well. Â

2. (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If not comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you. What you imagine them telling you is your compass. If you are acting in a way that is consistent with what they are saying, then it is very likely that you will end up living a meaningful life. Remember to listen to and follow this compass so as not to be distracted by the clock. Â

My key metric is building a strong and positive mindset. A single metric helps us focus on something we want to improve in ourselves without getting sidetracked or distracted, to make a change and get where we desire to be. This is professionally and personally important to me since I face lots of problems so I need to know how to choose the best way to see and deal with them.
This is the first time that I posted on 3 things and I'm really happy that I had the chance to brainstorm everything I've been doing

I would want to be remembered for being nice, even if I have been through battles in my head. I imagined that some people finally found out things about me that I tried my best to hide while I was alive because of the fear of being judged by them because telling them will bring no good and this might let them finally understand why I did some actions they never understood. I would want to be remembered by my hard work, accomplishments and always being open to guiding others, by being there for my friends and anyone else whenever they need me.

I think choosing a single metric is very important in my professional life as well as my personal life. This is because it guides me and keeps me organised and with structure, keeps me on track and focussing on something long term which would mean improving on that single thing.

2. (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. Well, I think people would speak fairly well of me, since a funeral is mostly going to be full of people who were my friends and family etc, then I'm hoping it would all be nice talk lol. I think people would mention how kind I was, I think I'm pretty kind to everyone, so I hope they notice that and feel that, but sometimes I can be easily angered. I'm sure some people in life won't care, but there's always going to be people who don't care about a certain thing. There's also going to be people who don't like someone. But I hope the people who care and who I care about do feel that I care about them as well. :)

Choosing a single metric is important as it helps you to understand better and focus more on the one thing rather than trying to focus on multiple things. This is important and can help me so that I don't have to juggle multiple metrics and instead I can focus on the one to build it up better.

This exercise impacted me by making me think more in depth, it also impacted me to aspire to become better.

The goal of choosing a single metric is important because it lets us focus more on one thing rather than being confused about multiple things. It helps us to get excellent professionally as well as personally. My metric is listening to other people and helping them to understand their situation better. This is important in my professional life because it would let me listen to other people and how they see different things. It would let me understand the perspectives of others. Personally, it could help me by increasing my understanding and knowledge about things and how to see things from different dimensions.

This exercise helped me understand what I want others to say about me and how should I behave, act, and live my life in order to be the kind of person that I want others to like and love.

1. It is becoming better and helping others for me.
Goal of choosing the single metric makes it more simple to see where I am currently and where is my goal.

2. That impacted me very strong. I've seen that friendship is most important for me now. And some recognition from people too. Moreover, I felt like they'd be guilty for that they didn't understand me some time in past. That means for me that I don't live consistently with what is most important to me. That I was threating them too much that I'd be gone and that won't make them sad but it did. So, I also seek for more understanding and for being less fighting with them. That they think I'm better that I imagine. I remember to listen to it as my compass on my way to better life.

Posted in the forum, a key metric would help me be a better listener and leader and help me manage my time better and more productively .

The last lesson was a great read also, I really liked the explanation for the four quadrants in life and how we can align our interaction in these to live a meaningful life .

awesome exercise, I'd want myself to be remembered as someone who cared , someone who genuinely cared and made people feel wanted and accepted, I'd like to be remembered for my compassion, my humility, my positive attitude , my cheerfulness and my supportive and ambitious nature .

Only getting better at this , one day at time 😊❤

My key metric is listening, I think listening skills are more valuble than gold these days. Most of the worlds problems would be fixed, If people just listened to one another and worked with each other.

1. While I do try to participate in the community whenever possible, I believe I can do more. The single key metric, for me, is consistency. Choosing a single metric is important because it allows one to maintain focus instead of getting distracted by multiple goals.

2. Chapter 12 is quite thought-provoking. Most people wonder what people would say about them b behind their back, or after they die. People would always have something to say, which is why I personally don't really pay much attention unless the other person is offering constructive feedback. Nevertheless, I think I would just want people to be honest about me, especially those who know me. Other than that, I'm pretty okay with whatever would be said at the end, because I strive to know myself and acknowledge my positive, as well as negative, points.

The goal of choosing a single metric is important both in my professional life and personal life because I can slowly improve day by day, week by week, month by month, and eventually year by year. This way I can gradually grow in my professions and also in my individual capacity to become a person who is more “capable”

I hope that people will tell me that my compass was always being full of live, being a great family member of a friend, and worked hard for others. Although this chapter and this experience was quite heavy as I have never imagined my own mortality, I feel like this has made me to feel more motivated to work towards becoming the person who I would like to be remembered as when I die.
