@zareya I am sorry you experienced the subtle insults aspect of passive-aggressive behavior. I myself fell a victim to it so I know how it feels :(

What are the 5 signs of passive-aggressive communication?

* silent treatment (ugh!)
* subtle insults (ugh!)
* procrastinating on purpose (ugh!)
* sabotage (ugh!)
* keeping score (ugh!)

What is one example of passive-aggressive behaviour you have experienced in your life?

All of the above.

Silent treatment and procrastinating on purpose from former lovers.
Subtle insults and keeping score from so-called friends.
Sabotage from my mum.

Why is passive aggression so damaging to our community?

It's detrimental to growth, all of those signs/behaviour. :(

Personally, the worst way you can treat me is to give me the silent treatment. You could tell me in advance that you plan to be quiet and stay away for the time being. I would understand that and while I'd be concerned, I won't be anxious about it compared to not talking to me out of nowhere. It can lead to overthinking or a magnitude of misinterpretations. We need open communication in our community.

Subtle insults are also not healthy. I mean, if you can't say anything nice, better to not say anything at all as negative things whether it's subtle or not just don't help any situation. It remains a riddle for me what about insults make them feel better :(

Procrastinating on purpose to assert dominance and control over a situation or a person, or to make someone feel insignificant and unimportant is just plain.. negative. I wanna say a whole lot of other negative words but let's go with that. It's unfair, it's a waste of time, and it's not helpful in any way. The same could be said of sabotage.

Keeping score is very offensive for me, whether it's with friends, family, colleagues, a partner, or even with activity buddies. I do things without thinking of what I could get out of it in return. I cannot, for the life of me, understand what this does to someone's mental, emotional, and spiritual health. I don't even know if it has a physical benefit, I highly doubt it. So why do it? :(

I have not experienced this personally, but would imagine that it leads to hurt

Josh3889 December 9th, 2022

@Heather225

Hello everyone,

1: The silent treatment, subtle insults, procrastinating on purpose, sabotage & keeping score.

2: I would say that the most recent would be subtle insults. I feel like I am on both sides of them, really simple to say but really hard to understand.

3: I have to say that any type of aggression is damaging to our community. Being passive-aggressive will only undermine our goals & mindset here at cups.

What are the 5 signs of passive-aggressive communication?
Considering non-confrontational in an absolute way, being indirect with feelings, saying things which are don’t really meant, using sarcasm and expecting from others to just “get” how we feel.

What is one example of passive-aggressive behavior you have experienced in your life?
I have experienced sarcasm mostly in my life when it did made me uncomfortable and question my thoughts, it did made me feel bad about it but I tried to communicate later by questioning and being open about the situation.

Why is passive aggression so damaging to our community?
Passive aggression so damaging to our community because people may fear losing control, insecure, or lack self-esteem. It happens and in result they might do it to cope with stress, anxiety, or to deal with rejection or conflict. Alternatively, they might do it because they have a grudge against anyone, or feel underappreciated.

@iStarlight

Sarcasm is the worst- It makes you feel belittled or misunderstood, even ashamed.  When people are sarcastic I feel they believe they have that upperhand, not a fan of sarcasm

What is one example of passive-aggressive behaviour you have experienced in your life?

I've experienced the silent treatment from my ex. I didn’t know what I did. But he wasn’t replying any of my 20+ messages I sent. Broke up soon after

Why is passive aggression so damaging to our community?

Passive aggression creates a strong barrier between us. It has a toll on people’s mental health. It ruins the trust and peaceful environment in our community.

Why is passive aggression so damaging to our community?

It makes people feel unwanted and uncared for in the community, that’s not what we do here, we want to help people and give them a space to be heard
