Connectedness is...
The third dimension of IDG of Relating-- Caring for Others and the World. According to the reading, "it constitutes the following":
- Appreciation
- Connectedness
- Humility
- Empathy & Compassion
Of the following skills/qualities, what stands out the most to me is connectedness.
In simpler terms, it is being apart of something that extends outside of yourself. Some of you may be apart of groups, teams, etc where you have to work together with others in order to accomplish something. Whatever it may be, you form bonds and relationships; that is you connecting!
Social connectedness is so important. By being apart of something outside of yourself it can lead to an improved sense of wellbeing. Being wanted, needed, and feeling a sense of belonging is something many of us need and desire. I believe it is the connections we make and the feeling of belonging that help draw us together.
For instance, take 7Cups... we have people of all over joining together to bring kindness to this not so always kind world. We have people who give freely of their time to help support others. And in turn, this platform has become a safe place for many of us. It has become a bonding community bringing us all together. And even though this may be, connectedness has to extend beyond the computer screen and keyboard. It is being able to go outside and soak up the sun. It is being apart of and connected to nature. We need to connect with ourself, each other, and the world.
After reading what connectedness is and its importance, I would like to invite you all to join me in answering two questions to help invoke thought...
1. In what ways is being connected to others important for our wellbeing?
2. Do you believe you have a strong sense of purpose?
@YourCaringConfidant This is my fav. topic! Love that you've brought it up and posted about it! 'Connectedness' is always my main focus whenever I log in to cups.
1. In what ways is being connected to others important for our wellbeing?
It starts with feeling connected with oneself. And in those tranquil moments of feeling in harmony with oneself, you feel an inspiration to spread love and touch hearts. This is essential to one's well-being!
2. Do you believe you have a strong sense of purpose?
I do, thanks to you, the one reading it. Your presence helps me, because I see an opportunity for a good bond with you, by seeing the good in you to realize further the good in myself. It also enables me to practice patience, open-mindedness, forgiveness, and all higher virtues! Not easy always, but a worthy path!
@Fristo You and your heart is filled with so much beauty! I can't even describe the wonderful qualities you possess. While it is not my place to speak for what your purpose may be, I would like to think it is what you do now. You have been blessed with a natural gift and are always dreaming. You bring the good in life, Fristo. Thank you for taking the time to answer the questions and thank you for being so supportive. ♡
@YourCaringConfidant
What a beautiful reflection!
1. We are social beings and prolonged isolation is not good for us. Connectedness can help us feel more integrated in society
2. Yes! But is worth noting it can take time to truly realize your purpose. We have to keep on trying!
@Hope Thank you for your great answers! I couldn't agree more with you. Being able to identify one's true purpose in life-- their reason for being here-- definitely comes over time and through life experiences. I appreciate you taking the time to join me in answering the questions. Hope you have a great day!

This is a great topic especially on 7Cups. As a listener its important to have a connection with members. Especially when it comes to certain chat topic you accept. I find it important that i only accept chats that are anxiety or loneliness because it is something I experience myself. Members like having a listener they feel they have a connection with one way or another.
1. In what ways is being connected to others important for our well-being?
It is a great to not feel so alone in what we are going through
2. Do you believe you have a strong sense of purpose?
Yes and no. The older i get I think I start to learn my purpose.
@heathermarie95 Thank you for that. I am happy that you found a listening style that works for you. I agree with you about some members preferring to chat with someone who can relate to how they feel. It makes perfect sense and it makes sense, too, that you would want to take on the chats where you know you have been in those shoes before. As a listener who can relate to the member, you have a lot to offer and I think that is what makes you as amazing as you are. Having that understanding helps you to be empathetic. Thanks again for stopping my this thread and showing support and leaving your responses. <3
1. In what ways is being connected to others important for our wellbeing?
it shows that they matter in our life and that we deeply care and are interested in them and their inner world, and it helps us create stronger and deeper relationships with them.
2. Do you believe you have a strong sense of purpose?
i do think that i have a strong sense of purpose, yes. i believe that i am here for a reason, and even if i do not know the reason why as of right now, i will be able to find it, and till then, i will keep on becoming the best version of myself.
❤️ Beautiful, @YourCaringConfidant! Thank you for your lovely and thoughtful post ❤️
❤️ Being connected to others is essential for our well-being. Humans are social creatures. We *need* others. It makes us healthier (literally), happier, valuable, valued, fulfilled and important. We wouldn't last by ourselves: we need each other to evolve and to exist. Connections are one of the bases of life, love and happiness. Connecting with ourselves, the world and others is what fills our cup and brings meaning to our lives ❤️
❤️ I do! I love helping others and I genuinely think that's my purpose (one of the many reasons why I love 7 Cups, haha) ❤️
@YourCaringConfidant
Thank you for your forum post. I love your analogy of 7cups. I agree with you. to answer your questions:
1. In what ways is being connected to others important for our wellbeing?
We are human and I think that having connection with people is what keep us sane. I mean, when I got COVID and had to isolate for 5 days. I was going crazy in the room. I missed human contact.
2. Do you believe you have a strong sense of purpose?
I think that everyone has a strong sense of purpose. Whether it is our family, our friends, or something we do. For me personally, i feel that I do have a strong sense of purpose. I am a parent and a role model to my children.
@YourCaringConfidant
Being connected to others is like soul fuel for our wellbeing. It's not just about having someone to grab coffee with or share a laugh; it's a fundamental human need.
I have seen your alot of dedication and helpfulness towards member. Really appreciate your heard work.
@YourCaringConfidant
Some people can't connect to people they need to. Maybe they were raised to be a people pleaser or to think they don't matter, and now are in a chronic cycle of being used, ignored and abused. Connection then is toxic and killing and person, like in my experience. I'm forced to either 'work together' with ignorant, abusing and assaulting drug users and sociopaths, or be homeless. Trying to find help and stand up for my rights is basically imposing and impossible as I believe I'm worthless on a very deep level. I'm tired and trapped and affirmations, meditation, counseling, literature and more may not be enough...the system isn't working, so what are people supposed to do? Magically just heal and prevent horrible things from happening? No. Sorry. For those who are believing blindly in the positives are toxic.
