Finding Your Inner Compass
Our inner compass is an powerful instrument that helps us find our real north, or our genuine selves. Our inner voice is what speaks our deepest hopes, anxieties, and wishes. However, it might be simple to lose contact with this internal guidance system in the fast-paced world of today.
Have you ever felt disoriented, unclear of your direction, or cut off from your basic principles? Our inner compass can be our greatest resource during these times. We can obtain guidance and clarity by connecting with our intuition and paying attention to the still, inner voice.
Here are some questions that can help you to strengthen your inner compass and live more authentically :
- How do you define your inner compass? What role does it play in your life?
- Share a time when you relied on your inner compass to make a significant decision. What was the outcome?
@Angelanj
I think finding our inner compass is a super important task in today's distracted and confused world.
I think being clear on your core values is the way to go if you are lost on where to get started. Another way is relying on religious teachings for those who are religious

- Back when I used to work enforcement, I was given massive leeway with interpreting policy and implementing it. Quite often people would purposely do something problematic because it made things easier for them. Instead of chastising someone for taking a shortcut, I'd talk with them about their day and what led to them taking the shortcut. I would try to help them plan ahead so as to prevent any trouble (like a ticket or etc). Often times it was a matter of not giving ones-self enough time, and clocking everything down to the minute. Some of the hardest working people would break down at my presence, seemingly a punishment; but the reassurance that I wasn't there to make it worse helped a lot and created a lot of very positive community feedback (helping each-other keep their affairs in order, and the reassurance that they wouldn't get punished for simple oversights and transgressions).
Personally, I define my inner compass with these simple words: Practice safety and happiness as well as you can while causing the least amount of harm.
My Inner Compass used to be a lot more strict, and much louder, but as I’ve grown older I’ve realized the way I operate on these terms. Whether I am in the position to be feasting on gourmet dishes or in the position I will eat ANYTHING after a day of extreme hunger, I only hope to serve myself while uplifting others. The applications range from daily decision to huge life choices.
Thanks so much for this post.

@Angelanj
I think our inner compass is what we rely on to navigate the challenging moments in life but also the day to day choices. its rooted in beliefs and values and purpose and helps remind me whats really important in my life.
@Angelanj Thank you for this beautiful post! I think my inner compass is the pointer that points to my authentic self, guides to my values and gives me more idea about the mission I was sent for.
@AngelanjI love this post! One time I used my inner compass was when I decided to pursue my Bachelor's degree in interpreting. At first, I was hesitant about the degree because I had never met another interpreter and didn't know if I would like it. However, I looked inward and used my inner compass to sit and think about what was important to me and what my inner strengths were. I ultimately decided to pursue the degree and have never regretted it!
