Amigurumi Pumpkins!
As October starts to wind down, I thought I would share this simple pattern for a crochet pumpkin, perhaps you can make one up this week then add a jack-o-lantern face to make it spooktacular! So without further ado, let’s get those crochet hooks into a new project!

Amigurumi Pumpkin
(Beginner/intermediate)
Materials:
Small crochet hook (3.5mm or less)
Stitch marker
Worsted weight (3) yarn in main colour and accent colour
Fiberfill stuffing

sc= single crochet
inc = increase (2 sc into single stitch)
dec =invisible decrease (sc 2 stitches together)
sl st = slip stitch
[.]= total number of stitches in round
Working in continuous rounds with a yarn marker, mark the beginning of each round, also note where the pattern indicates to work in the back loop only, this will be important when completing your pumpkin.
Pumpkin: (working in main colour)
Rnd 1: 6 sc in a magic ring [6]

Before completing the final rounds, stuff your pumpkin with fiberfill
Rnd 28: *sc in back loop only, dec repeat from * around [12]
Rnd 29: dec around [6]
Fasten off leaving a very long tail.
[image consists of the bottom of the crochet pumpkin before finishing steps]
Finishing your work:
Using a yarn needle, weave tail into the front loops only of final 6 and pull tight to close. Don't cut off the yarn.
To divide pumpkin into segments we use the front loops of those stitches where we worked into the back loop only. With the long tail of yarn, stitch under the front loops down one of the segment lines. (You should easily be able to differentiate these from the rest of the pumpkin as shown in image above.)
Pull on the yarn gently but firmly to draw in the pumpkin segment. Insert the needle through the very center at bottom of the pumpkin to come out the center of the top once more. Don’t pull too tight as you may break your yarn!
Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the 5 remaining segments of your pumpkin.
Secure the yarn, trim and work in the end. The body of your pumpkin is complete.
Stem: (working in accent colour)
Rnd 1:6 sc in magic ring [6]
Rnd 2: sc in back loop only of each st around [6]
Rnd 3-4: sc around [6]
Rnd 5: *sc in next 2 st, inc repeat from * around [8]
Rnd 6: *sc in next 3 st, inc repeat from * around [10]
Rnd 7: *sc in next 4 st, inc repeat from * around [12]
Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing
Attaching the stem:
Select which will be the top and bottom of your pumpkin
Sew the stem in place on top of the pumpkin.
Secure the yarn, trim and work in the end.
* Pattern note: You can make your pumpkin bigger or smaller by adjusting the number of increases and repeating rounds - just like making a sphere of any size but working the first stitch in each repeat of pattern in the back loop only after the second round of increases. For Stem - continue increase style from round 5-7 until the total stitches in final round is 1-2 stitches more than the number of increases in the pumpkin.

@EmotionsListener
They are so beautiful and cute!
Amigurumi is a wonderful craft!
And you did them with such perfection!
Thank you for all the work in writing and for sharing very clear instructions.
The detailed section with the knitting instructions seems like software code to me! 😃
@HealingTalk
They are so beautiful. She did a great job.
How are you?
@WorkingitThrough2
Yes! She is the amigurumi wizard!
I am great, thank you for asking!
I see you too have been very active with gardening and crafts!
How are you doing?
@HealingTalk
I am doing fine❤️thanks for asking.
@WorkingitThrough2
I am glad for that! Your enthusiastic posts in the crafts forums always bring a smile to my face!
@HealingTalk
Thank you, I really enjoy the results with amigurumi they can be so cute but I also like that they are quick little projects. Although as you say crochet patterns can be a bit like code when you are first starting out, but once you get going it's like you get to understand the code and why you are doing each step!
Thank you again!
@EmotionsListener
Yes, they seem to have so many benefits as a hobby!
They are projects you are sure to complete in a reasonable time, more like reading stories by Chekhov or Kafka than novels by Tolstoy or Proust.
The result is something beautiful that you can exhibit in small spaces, like shelves. Like those small crystal figurines by Swarovsky, so small but so eye-catching!
I can imagine that for the trained eye, those instructions in knitting abbreviations must be like sheet music for a musician.
I associated it with how DNA codes proteins, as a linear sequence of aminoacids, but that sequence folds and takes a 3D form. It's the 3D form that gives each protein its distinctive properties. So you go from a linear sequence to a 3D object (sorry, I drank too much coffee! 😀).
You are super-lucky to have discovered the amigurumi, and decided to master this cute and exquisite (but not widely known) craft!
Thank you for sharing it with us!
@EmotionsListener thanks, great post!!
@RogueOne1983
And thank you! Will you be growing your own pumpkin patch? 🎃
@EmotionsListener probably not I was sick a long time I have basically missed almost a year. :( I am on the mend though, recovery takes time cannot push it!!
Thanks for asking!!
AWE THEY'RE SO ADORABLEEEEE!!!!!
@pleHfOdeeNnI
Thank you, I think that's what makes amigurumi so difficult to stop once you start! So do you make amigurumi at all? Do you think you will try some?
Yes some time maybe I might start learning for My birthday soon and Sorry I been feeling kinda tired lately I haven't checked 7 cups in a few days
@EmotionsListener
so couple weeks ago i made an amigurumi pumpkin and ghost keychain in the spirit of halloween. i gave my bf the pumpkin because initially i had made it for him, and my mom the ghost 🥹 they’re the cutest. unfortunately, the ghost currently have no eyes because my then 1 year old niece *her birthday was on the 22nd, so now she’s terrible two, decided to pick them off even thou i told her not to 😂
my very first amigurumi pumpkin and ghost
@chyni They look great! well done and thanks for sharing with us :)

@MistyMagic
thank you misty 😊
@chyni
Those are so cute, I love them😊. So the ghost is eye ballless🤣 typical off a little one.
@WorkingitThrough2
lol, she’s so rude 😂 but i love her
@chyni
These are spook-tacular! As to the ghost eyes, that's why I have a few different styles of eyes I use, for small kids I often just embroider the eyes with yarn or embroidery floss, then for older kids or when I want a more dimensional eye I use the safety eyes that lock into the piece. Some of my work I even leave without eyes because it can still be cute!
Thanks for sharing your amigurumi with us!
@EmotionsListener
i normally embroidery the eyes but i was tired of doing that and then i remembered that my mom had some crazy eyes. initially, i had planned to use the glue gun to paste them on but then i realized it had the adhesive at the back so i just stick them on and leave them as is. even though it was for my mom, ik the eyes were gonna fall off but i just wanted to use them anyways 😭
They're so cute also rip ghosty's eyez
Das so cute c:
So I had a bit more fun this week, and played with some variations and additions to the pattern above. I also got more playful with colour. I will add that I do my work with a size 1.3mm crochet hook and worsted weight yarn because I like a very tight 'fabric' where you cannot see the stuffing.
[Image consists of a purple and turquoise amigurumi pumpkin]
As you might notice these pumpkins are a bit different! The purple pumpkin was done by scaling the pattern down a size (working to Pumpkin Rnd 9, and then skipping to Rnd 11, and only doing 9 repeats of Rnd 11 with only 54st each), I also finished the stem a round early (Stem Rnd 6).
With the turquoise pumpkin I actually added in 3 more rounds of the repeat (Pumpkin Rnd 11) to make a slightly taller and more rounded pumpkin. I also added a 'curl'. To make your own curls, it's as simple as making a chain of stitches then single crocheting 3 times in each stitch back to the start and fastening off. You can then shape and adjust the curl to your liking and stitch it to your pumpkin's stem! I find a good guide for length of the curl chain is 1.5 times the number of stitches per segment in your pumpkin, so for the pumpkin pattern above, there are 10 stitches per segment so I chained 15 to make my curl.
As you gain confidence with amigurumi, you can see it's easy to change and adapt patterns to make something all your own! So happy pumpkin making! 🧡🎃🧡
@EmotionsListener
i absolutely love these, maybe even better than the original orange color 🥺💜
@EmotionsListener
I like the colored ones even better. what is on the inside of them?🤔
