Amigurumi Pumpkins!
As October starts to wind down, I thought I would share this simple pattern for a crochet pumpkin, perhaps you can make one up this week then add a jack-o-lantern face to make it spooktacular! So without further ado, let’s get those crochet hooks into a new project!

Amigurumi Pumpkin
(Beginner/intermediate)
Materials:
Small crochet hook (3.5mm or less)
Stitch marker
Worsted weight (3) yarn in main colour and accent colour
Fiberfill stuffing
Yarn needle
(A bit of patience!)
Abbreviations: (US terminology)
st = stitch
sc= single crochet
inc = increase (2 sc into single stitch)
dec =invisible decrease (sc 2 stitches together)
sl st = slip stitch

Working in continuous rounds with a yarn marker, mark the beginning of each round, also note where the pattern indicates to work in the back loop only, this will be important when completing your pumpkin.

Finishing your work:
Using a yarn needle, weave tail into the front loops only of final 6 and pull tight to close. Don't cut off the yarn.
To divide pumpkin into segments we use the front loops of those stitches where we worked into the back loop only. With the long tail of yarn, stitch under the front loops down one of the segment lines. (You should easily be able to differentiate these from the rest of the pumpkin as shown in image above.)
Pull on the yarn gently but firmly to draw in the pumpkin segment. Insert the needle through the very center at bottom of the pumpkin to come out the center of the top once more. Don’t pull too tight as you may break your yarn!
Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the 5 remaining segments of your pumpkin.
Secure the yarn, trim and work in the end. The body of your pumpkin is complete.
Stem: (working in accent colour)
Rnd 1:6 sc in magic ring [6]
Rnd 2: sc in back loop only of each st around [6]
Rnd 3-4: sc around [6]
Rnd 5: *sc in next 2 st, inc repeat from * around [8]
Rnd 6: *sc in next 3 st, inc repeat from * around [10]
Rnd 7: *sc in next 4 st, inc repeat from * around [12]
Fasten off leaving a tail for sewing
Attaching the stem:
Select which will be the top and bottom of your pumpkin
Sew the stem in place on top of the pumpkin.
Secure the yarn, trim and work in the end.
* Pattern note: You can make your pumpkin bigger or smaller by adjusting the number of increases and repeating rounds - just like making a sphere of any size but working the first stitch in each repeat of pattern in the back loop only after the second round of increases. For Stem - continue increase style from round 5-7 until the total stitches in final round is 1-2 stitches more than the number of increases in the pumpkin.
