I have a lot of opinions on this topic but can't get it all down typing on my phone lol. My answer is both...I will explain more later this week when I'm able to sit at a real keyboard and explain

Both fr 😃 they aren't very mutually exclusive I guess

I wonder why some people don't accept money is important, everything is on money smh , it doesn't make you a bad or materialistic person to think of money for your basic needs and wishes for yourself and love ones

"money cant buy you happiness" is the most BS thing ever , it's very limiting ... you cant always compare like with sentimental stuff but... money can fix so many things for you ...also money can buy me cake ... which makes me happy... it could get me flight tickets and hotel stays and the means to travel ... which makes me happy!!

sure there's things like inner happiness and peace of mind ... the ultimate sense of satisfaction, that money can enable for us ( you cannot really expect someone whos struggling to meet ends for themself and family to remotely even have the time to think for sense of satisfaction... money acts as a need for survival here ... not even a wish or luxury) but it's all too far and you gotta work for it ... till then ... nomming cake is the way out imho 💀

@Optimisticempath I agree with you 100%. Recently, I got my tax money which was the equivalent of $5,000USD. I was able pay off most of my debt and threw about $3k into savings with $1k going towards my son's savings. I'm also working a job (part-time) and it's the LEAST stressful job I've ever had and my boss is pretty good. It was a struggle working part-time and being homeless for a month (currently staying at a new friend's guesthouse).

So you're right, both money and job satisfaction are important. I wouldn't want to select one over the other. I grew up poor and money honestly does help achieve certain goals and makes life a bit easier. Less worries.

After working a several jobs and finally doing something which I can call a career.. I think I used to look at work because of the salary. But, after experiencing my own dissatisfactions with work, the satisfaction factor weighs a bit more than money for me now. Standard of living is so expensive though, so having passion for our work, and being able to be paid well, is the most ideal.

With my current work, I'm only still working because I actually like what I do.. And the money is just a bonus. At the same time though, it's not a bonus, because I'm not a permanent staff. So, income is not stable and consistent. But I see a lot of people around me, who are doing my work because of the pay, and not exactly because they like it. So, in those people, they are always complaining about their work everyday. Complaining about things they have to do, or what others are doing.

At other times though, it may be difficult to find a career that we feel passionate about, and also has decent salary that comes with it. So, a lot of the times, I see others just work because of the money. Then, find satisfaction from other things in their lives to balance it out.

"What do you think is more important: job satisfaction or its salary?"

For some people, this question is straight forward with an answer one way or the other. For others, there are many complicated factors. I have worked at a job, since 1997, that I would say really has no satisfaction at the end of the day. There is no "end product" so to speak. We deal with people day in and day out and the job is very stressful. I knew this going into the profession. Yet the job offers great salary, great step raises, longevity, cost of living raises, awesome benefits and a great retirement package. When I first started and was young, it was all about the money. As I grew older, had a family and lived happy times and some not so enjoyable times, my thoughts and views on things and the world started to change. Essentially, I grew up. With this change came the realization that I wasn't really into all the stress that this great paying job with all the great paying benefits had to offer....but by then, I was in too deep to just walk away....here I am 3 years and 6 months from being able to retire when I hit 55 years old. For a long time now, I've felt like I'm stuck in a profession that I'm not really all that fond of anymore and offers me no job satisfaction. All because I chose the money over the satisfaction all those years ago. I created a lifestyle for myself and family that I won't be able to maintain if I would have left and started over. Sometimes I even wonder what my purpose in life has been because I really haven't done anything that "makes a difference" with this job, so to speak. But that is a whole different forum post for another time...... Anyway, the good thing....its only 3 and half years left....the bad thing....I've been so burned out and unsatisfied for so long that I'm ready to give it all up no matter what the financial consequence. If I could be honest, if it was just me, I'd quit tomorrow...I can make life work with just me.....but when you have built a certain lifestyle for those around you that you love, I feel like I just have to suck it up.

So, back to the original question....I don't think there is a right answer.....the answer has to come from the individual...based on where they are in their life and all the factors involved.....

Eating always has priority. Without food I will not care about much else including job satisfaction.

Job satisfaction!

I did not stay in one of my previous employment positions (high paying, full benefits, and many, many extras) because of the milieu. It was a very traumatic place to work, and it was never the hands-on part of the job that made it so psychologically draining/toxic. My coworkers were very, very mean, rude, exclusionary, and never supportive. I am still struggling to contextualize how terrifying it was to speak to the manager. She was notorious for bad management.

My satisfaction came when I found out there were over 10 employees in 5 years who left directly before I was officially hired. It really felt so validating that I was not the only person struggling. This manager, her staff, and the institution cannot keep personnel. I am waiting for the day this employer goes bankrupt or the grievances at the Better Business Bureau eradicate the permanent staff.

Both to a limit. A job might not be the most satisfying but it could lead somewhere else that better aligns with your goals in the future both financially and emotionally. I try not to think of any career decision as permanent because anything can change. We all have needs so I think it’s also not something to be ashamed of if some job decisions are based on being able to physically provide for ourselves and loved ones. Money can’t buy happiness but there is an amount that buys comfort and survival depending on where you live.

@tommy I think a positive balance between the two is quintessential.

Everything that can be said has already been shown in Maslow's pyramid. People can arbitrarily talk about balance, but .. All this does not matter if your finances are not enough to cover basic needs. Money is an important part of the job for me. I chose the wrong profession to be rich)) But I did not stop there. I am looking for new opportunities for myself. I really want to start using crypto to earn money. So far it's at the dream stage but I'm studying different Crypto review. This allows me to keep abreast of the latest trends. I have high hopes that I will find my balance if I combine my current creative work with crypto. Time will tell if I'm right.
