...See more Hey everyone, I know its been a long time since the last post, but lets get on to it today! We all know that managing weight can be a tough journey, filled with ups and downs. But here's the thing: you don't have to go through it alone! I'm excited to invite each of you to share your experiences, challenges, and victories in your weight management journey. Whether it's a small win or a big struggle, sharing can transform the process from feeling like a pressure into a source of powerful motivation. ------------------------- I've been on this path myself, and I know how crucial it is to have a supportive community. That’s why I’ll be bringing you fresh insights, tips, and encouragement every Wednesday and Sunday for the next 3-4 months. Let’s walk this road together, lifting each other up along the way. ------------------------- Today’s Tip: Conquering Cravings with Healthy Swaps! Cravings can be one of the biggest hurdles in weight management, but with a few smart swaps, you can satisfy your taste buds without derailing your progress. Here’s how you can replace those common cravings: * Salty: Instead of chips, try air-popped popcorn with a sprinkle of nutritional yeast or lightly salted almonds. Another great option is cucumber slices with a dash of sea salt and vinegar. * Sweet: Ditch sugary snacks for fresh fruit, like a bowl of mixed berries or apple slices with a bit of almond butter. For a treat, try freezing grapes or making a smoothie with your favorite fruits and a scoop of protein powder. * Spicy: Craving heat? Spice up your meals with chili flakes on roasted chickpeas or hot sauce drizzled over grilled veggies and lean protein. You can also try making a spicy salsa to pair with your snacks. * Sour: For that tangy kick, add a squeeze of lemon or lime to your water, salads, or roasted veggies. Pickles or a small serving of kimchi can also satisfy sour cravings in a healthy way. * Umami: Satisfy savory cravings with a miso soup, or add a splash of soy sauce or tamari over steamed vegetables or tofu. You can also try roasted mushrooms, which have a rich umami flavor. I know it is difficult to satisfy your cravings with it, but hey! Its just a start and for a struggle of a few weeks, once its all over, you will learn to embrace and manage your cravings better than ever. YOU CAN DO IT!                                                                                             ------------------------- Let’s Stay Connected! I’d love to hear about your journey—what’s working for you, the challenges you face, and the victories you achieve. Share your story and updates in the comments and keep us updated by creating your own posts and tagging me in them on a daily basis. Together, we can create a community of support, inspiration, and growth. Let’s make this journey one of connection and empowerment! See you on Wednesday for more tips and motivation! 💪✨

Caffeine

...See more I'm sure most of us that follow this community are mindful of what we eat, try to eat properly, diet, exercise, etc, etc.  Some try to avoid sweets(sugar), carbs, junk food, whatever it is that our "diet" or health needs us to avoid.  Me....I am flirting with high cholesterol....on the borderline according to my last blood work....I am taking steps and reading labels, changing things...doing the right thing....label reading is a new thing for me....one thing I realized this morning while trying track some of things I put in my body is the amount of caffeine I actually consume on the daily....we all joke about needing our coffee to survive....but when reading labels, I was dumbfounded by all the caffeine I put into my system....here is a regular day for me....I won't share the MG's of caffeine in each product, but I will share the drinks....they all contain caffeine.... I start the morning by downing an 8 oz v8 energy drink....get a shot of caffeine with my fruits and veggies right off the rip.....then I sip on a 16 oz cup of Maxwell house coffee while at work...If I drink it hot the 16 oz will do....If I make an Iced coffee, its 32 oz.... at some point in the morning I have my pre-workout amino energy/hydration mix that I sip on through out the morning (2 scoops mixed with 32 oz of ice and water) so that it is in my system when I get home from work for my workout....then, if doing a long bike ride or hard lifting session, I take a carbohydrate, electrolyte, energy gel or jelly beans, depending on what I'd rather have that day, halfway through the workout....and finally I usually have some sort of flavored Lipton green tea from the bottle with my dinner.... Thats a ton load of caffeine in a day.....no wonder I sleep like crap....I'd like to back it down, but I do suffer from migraines and am afraid the lack of caffeine will make them more frequent...I've been doing this routine for a number of years, so my body is probably used to it.....so now I'm at an impasse....not sure what to do.... I share all this because if any of you have any ideas, or weaned yourself off of caffeine, I'd like to hear your story.....or maybe just a topic for discussion.....feel free to join and comment.....

...See more @MusicCandy Hi! I decided it was easier to just start a new thread. I can't figure out the old one. I am headed to my mom's tomorrow until Sunday night. Today is the fifth anniversary of dad's death. I couldn't get up there today, so it's the first time I won't be with her on the actual day. I won't be on here this weekend, so I'm writing this on Wednesday. Yesterday I made my first trip to the mountains in a long time. I hiked to Mary's Rock. It was not crowded and was great weather. It was kind of funny hiking in a t-shirt with snow on the ground! Today we are celebrating my DIL's birthday. The actual day is Saturday but I'll be at mom's. I am going to make the Korean dessert that I made for New Year's, since their dog ate all the leftovers and she didn't get to try much of it. Then I have some cleaning to do, and some errands to run, and then pick her up 45 min away because my son is here at work near our house. I'm going early enough to drop by my other son's house first to meet his new dog. He and his fiancee are adopting a 2 year old. I need to do laundry to prepare for my trip, and need to write detailed instructions for my pet sitters. I have an old note to work from, but I have a new lady coming one day and I need to make it extra-detailed for her. She is a pet sitting company, so it will cost me, but I need another person in my rotation of feeders. So it's a busy day today! I am grateful for my spring break this week that allows me to do all these things. I spent the weekend doing very little because I knew the rest of the week would be very busy! I don't like getting home the evening before I have to go back to work, since I won't get laundry, shopping, or cooking done, but it couldn't be helped! I hope the new thread works out, and that I tagged you correctly so you will see it! I hope your week has gone well, and here's to five more years of messages to come!

Why You Needs To Sleep
by Apeatrice

...See more Hello, night owls. How are you doing? ✨Sending strength and love✨ It has come to my attention that a lot of us are not getting enough Zzzs. Due to a lot of reasons, some had an awful day and used it as a coping mechanism; some stayed up because of the heavy amount of work; some are suffering a variety of mental challenges and can't sleep. This thread is a reminder of why sleep is important and how to improve it. ------------------------- what happens if you don't get enough Zzzs; ▪ Not sleeping enough can give you memory issues; it can help you forget what has happened, but this can have a long-term effect. For me, it can take weeks to recover my memory, wondering if I had been staying home or staying on Mars during that time. ▪ Sleep deprivation can cause heillusionation. Not only can you begin to see things that aren't real, but also in perceiving things in reality, having trouble telling a human apart from a ghost, etc. ▪ You may be staying up because of the upcoming exam, but the best way to ensure you pass is to get the rest you deserve, not pulling an all nighter and burning the late-night oil. ------------------------- Here are some points to improve your sleep; • Creating a steady and achievable sleep schedule. If sleeping 8 hours forever sounds overwhelming to start, begin by "I'm going to sleep at 11 p.m. for two days." You can add the days little by little. • listening to pink music.  Putting on music like rain, waterfall, wind, etc. can help to promote a sense of calm and security. Thus making going to sleep less difficult. • Use a sleep tracker. Using a sleep tracker can help you to record how much progress you are making and where to improve. Here are some apps to try: Sleepzy SleepScore BetterSleep • Avoid punishment. The results and effects of not sleeping enough are already harmful enough to yourself. Please don't take it out on yourself. ------------------------- You have been so brave today; life has been really rough on you. More burdens are downing on you. I understand that you don't want to face it. I understand that sleep will make the issues real and the pain more feelable. But getting some rest and approaching the problems in the morning will help you to handle them. Pain will end; success will come soon. ------------------------- @DarkerPlaces, @AmyGrace55555, @@Sebastian0o0, @ThornyNini

Keeping my brain turned off.....

...See more I have been sleeping like crap for a long time now.....I don't have issue falling asleep....my girlfriend tells me all the time that I'm the only person she knows that can be asleep in 15 seconds after their head hits the pillow.... and its true......My bed time is generally 8pm because my alarm for work is 3am....I said my alarm is 3am....lately I'm up before my alarm....long before.....my usual night consists of me rolling over sometime between 1230 and 1, looking at the clock, doing the exact thing in the cartoon below and then spend the rest of my "sleep time" tossing and turning in bed, looking at the clock every 15 or 20 min, doing the math to see how much time I have left, and ruminating on what could go wrong at work the next day, or how I feel I mishandled a situation the day before...my brain just won't shut back off once I wake in the middle of the night....you all get the idea.....I've read all there is to read about good sleep....I've tried all the things....yet I cannot make my brain shut off....I have been dragging through my days, and I'm cutting back on caffeine, which hasn't been helpful to the sleep process, it only makes me more tired during the day since I'm not sleeping at night or getting my second wind from the caffeine I've cut out....While I'm not really looking for advice or help, I won't be angry if someone wants to comment or join this thread.... I am just typing this out in this forum because, who know, maybe putting it out in the universe will help the situation.....
How do you start your day?

...See more Good morning healthy living community. I hope this entry finds you well. Just a fun and encouraging topic to discuss "How you start your mornings". I am NOT a morning person but, I love slow and quiet mornings (I look forward to them). I take my kids to their schools, come home, all lights are low, quiet morning jazz music, hot coffee, and my journal and write. Makes me feel like I set up my day for peace.  Do you think how we start our days matter? How we end them? And what routines have you set up for mornings or nights that contribute to wellness?
