Loyalty versus Being Candid

User Profile: soulsings

People can be motivated to act upon different qualities.

  • Do you tend  to be more loyal to your friends and support them no matter what or respond candidly and give them an honest answer when they ask?
  • What are other roles of loyalty in your life?

@soulsings I do a bit of both, always stay humble and kind right? ❤ loyalty is something right now I'm struggling with, I can't work out wether it's just classed as harrasment at this point, or wether i brought this on myself and I'm just not being a good friend😕 understanding some situations is hard

@soulsings I used to be fiercely loyal, but then I realized that the people (mostly family) I was loyal to were often the ones that threw me under the bus when they needed a scapegoat. At the same time I think being candid should be done carefully and gently. Yes the truth does hurt sometimes but you don't need to tear someone apart with it

  • Do you tend  to be more loyal to your friends and support them no matter what or respond candidly and give them an honest answer when they ask? Answer: I tend to put certain friends who mean a lot to me and have shown compassion and honesty of friendship to me first. Others I just respond with one word comments
  • What are other roles of loyalty in your life? Answer: My other role is to improve myself so I can appreciate who I truly am

@pamharley003 I qualify who I am talking to as well and am very careful with people I know hold different opinions than me.

Being the kind, humble, honest person I am, I’m both loyal and candid. But in a kind, respectful, gentle way. If I’m asked a question, I’ll answer honestly but without any disrespect to whoever asked me the question. As for support, I’ll honestly but respectfully say I cannot support it and state my reasons why if I think what’s being done is wrong or on the other hand I will definitely support it if I feel it’s a good thing that’s being done.

  • What are other roles of loyalty in your life?

Most of the loyalty is to my best friend forever….myself. But it doesn’t mean that I’ll say anything just to make/keep myself happy. I’m genuinely honest with myself no matter what.

That's exactly what I do. People often talk because of a need to share and are not expecting judgement or advice, if you are good at it. Once they ask, you wade carefully.

One can be both candid and loyal too. It's a question of balance

I will always support my friends as long as they do not do something wrong (ethically or against the law) but I will also always give honest answers if asked. Loyalty is important to me but honesty even more.

@amiablePeace77

Well, I won't help them but if they do anything wrong.... it's up to them. If I know ahead of time why they plan to do, I can try to talk them out of it. It has worked sometimes and others, naaah.

I'll be there to pick up the pieces however.

Ethics and legality can be rather different depending on culture and the local laws.  Many people get in trouble because of that confusion. Graft is expected in many places, spousal "betrayal" too. Be careful before you put any judgement on what goes on.

@soulsings Interesting question. For most people I will be strictly loyal. For the person I’m closest with, I will be loyal but also candid. Can you be both? That didn’t go well in my recent experience. So I wonder if I’m answering this question wrong. Ideally I’d like to be candid with my partner, but I feel loyal to many people. Maybe that is a sort of misguided dream of mine. I’m very lost on this issue.

@soulsings

I value both things. Loyality is very important to me and I am fiercly loyal and supportive to the people closest to me that I know have my back and deserve my loyalty.

It's good to offer support as long as we have boundaries and take care of our own wellbeing.

I find honesty to be important and my friends know if they ask me something they will get the truth. I'd rather say things as they are but there is a fine balance - delivering honesty with compassion.

I actually would like to change the word honest to being authenthic.

@soulsings loyalty is massively important to me, like always having a friends back in any situation but also honesty is vital, if you truly value a person and yourself, you speak the truth , not what someone wants to hear and loyalty shouldn't equal betraying your own principles, loyalty dhould first be to yourself!

@Amanda84 I agree people being loyal when I am doing unethical things would not help me.
