Dealing with mean people

...See more Hi, I am a PhD student, my supervisors are mean, and they only care about publications. This is the end of my fifth year, and I was aiming to reach the defense, but they introduced more challenging work. They misled me sometimes, creating a lot of stress and pressure. When I say I do not know, they say it is my PhD and I should find a way. The problem is that they do not provide resources either literature or other contacts for help. How can I deal with such people? Also, I am an international student. What do you suggest, these days, I can not sleep well. Thanks
Struggling with studies

...See more Hey everyone, I'm Bunny. I can't concentrate in class or on video lectures. I zone out, my mind starts thinking about other things, and it just wanders. It's really hard for me to keep my brain focused on the class or the video lecture. I feel like everyone else can concentrate effortlessly, and I’m the only one who struggles with it. Even reading books feels hard. I’ll be reading, but I don’t really understand what I’m reading. My mind is just moving through the words without grasping anything, even when I try to focus. Solving sums is also tough. I can solve them, but I’m not fully mentally present while doing it. My mind is still drifting off, thinking about random things. Does anyone else experience this? Has anything worked for you? Any tips on how to focus better? Because I can't concentrate, I keep falling behind and end up with a lot of backlogs.  I also procrastinate a lot, and I think it's all connected, the main reason for this is my inability to focus. It frustrates me a lot. Sometimes, I find it hard to even start studying because I know I’ll probably fail again. It’s really hard to try over and over when I don’t know how to focus. I sometimes sit down to study, but then I end up procrastinating in the middle of it because I just can’t concentrate. It feels so complicated and overwhelming. Please, if anyone has been through this or has any tips or advice, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

...See more heyo!!! uh I'm not actually sure this is the right forum for this but I'm not sure where else it would fit lol.  I'm 15, I'm currently falling behind in year 10 because I am mentally ill and can't keep up with the workload (specifically my attendance is under 60%, my GPA (8.##) is less than a whole point off from the minimum (7.5), I am also likely to fail the 2 subjects I need to move on to year 10 (PLP & English)) and year 11 is only going to be worse because it's my first SACE year so I won't be allowed to fail any of my classes or I would lose those SACE points which I kinda need to graduate (as far as I understand it at least). I'm going to be applying for an apprenticeship next year but I kinda need some advice for dealing with year 11 if that falls through! uh literally any advice would be helpful cuz I have basically no idea what I'm gonna be going into!!

...See more Problem is, i never tried to do anything, and i did good at highschool. Aced every test with no effort at all.  Time passes, i got into the top private uni, and when i decided to take computer science as my degree, i always felt this imposter syndrome, everytime i enter the class. I distanced and closed myself from everyone in class, and i can't hold it anymore. I always thought that I'm the dumbest in class, and i didn't do well with my grades, so i dropped out. And now I'm afraid of choosing my major and scared of the future.  I always thought that my bad grades maybe have something to do with my mental health at that time, where i have imposter syndrome everytime, like i just don't belong. And now, i must soon choose a major to enroll to uni again, but im scared as ***. Im scared of choosing a wrong major again. What if i fail again?? Just how much of my parent's money and time i have spent for my mistakes. I don't want to dissapoint them again.  All i want is just to graduate and go back to my hometown, and help my family's bussiness.

I don't have it in me to finish this semester
by exuberantCucumber7467

Friday
...See more I've officially reached my limit. I'm on my second year of med school and this semester has been really challenging for me, I've been working two jobs because my dad had to quit his and I'm basically the only one with income in my family at the moment. I can't keep up with the workload, my physical and mental health are at rock bottom, I'm barely sleeping, I keep getting sick and having the worst migraines I've had in my life, keep missing classes (I missed a midterm last week due to my poor health). I know I don't want to quit med school but this particular school is making me want to crawl under a rock and never come out. The professors keep dismissing my pleas for help and make it everybody's business that I'm missing classes and on the verge of failing, I can't take the humiliation in front of my peers and I'm exhausted. My uni has this very old-fashioned/high school feel to it, we have assigned seats, a mandatory suit and tie dress code and we even have roll call every single day for every single class, half the classes I'm taking aren't even taught by the professors they just have us prepare presentations and I'm just sick of it. This wasn't my first choice for school and I only ended up there because it was the only one I could afford at the time. I feel like I don't have it in me to finish this semester and have even started thinking about transferring to another school but I'm thinking of withdrawing before the semester is over to avoid academic probation. I can't find the support I need at this place nor do I feel like I'm receiving the education I deserve. I can't take another week, the thought of waking up tomorrow to go to class makes me have a panic attack. I don't know if I should withdraw or stick around till the end of the semester, I'm just a mess right now.
I don't know what to do after my undergraduate degree
by GumballMachine

...See more Finishing my undergraduate degree soon. As a first generation student, I will be the first in my family to graduate from university. I will be wallowing in debt, and partly due to this I will not continue my education. There is LOTS of employment that can be done with only experience and no university education anyways. I think I am actually of average intelligence and it is really isolating to go to university, so I am not sure why I would continue studying. I have a poor memory and nobody is interested in me enough to give me attention. Plus, most of the students are WAY younger than me so it's like attending an upper-high school rather than a university. It's really deluded, people thinking they need to get a degree after high school to enhance employment opportunities. It used to be different in the past, but now anyone can get a degree. University as it is in the modern day just isn't the same as it used to be. University used to mean a lot to me and was exciting, but unfortunately doesn't mean anything anymore or feel the same as it used to. All going to university is is taking in information and spitting it out until you get a piece of paper that doesn't necessarily get you employment or actually mean anything. Why would I want to do that? People who take the time to get PhDs who take in so much information for years and are lucky enough to work in a university just work to spew information on young adults who will never get a PhD and possibly not even get a career in the area of study. It sounds disgusting to me. I hope to start a new life soon where I find somewhere I belong and have a social support system. I wonder where I should go and what I should do. I hope to move abroad and start a new life. I hope it is fulfilling, instead of this meaningless garbage and isolating lifestyle where nothing meaningful or interesting actually happens. Why I even started studying, I have no idea. I am tired of capitalist society where everything is done to get money, where people live to work and work to live, and hope to join a society that is less focused on capitalist ideals. I feel that I am being forced to be a slave by society for most of my life, and I would be very blessed to be supported by someone(s) and not work. This modern day, extortionately expensive lifestyle where everyone supposedly needs to work full-time just to survive is delusional. I actually don't want to be forced to try hard just to "be someone" in society or to work. I feel trapped in what society wants me to do, because I don't care about any of it, and this perspective isn't a result of a mental health condition. I just don't belong in this society. What I might love to do instead of being a capitalist slave is pay off my interest-incurring student debt, become a monk, and spend my time doing something like harvesting rice or tea in the mountains or hills of Asia, instead of pretending to be like these people I exist around when really I will never be like them. If anyone would like to share their current lifestyle or experiences after university, I would love to know. I would love to know what people's experience was like as a first generation student as well- if you were one you should share. I would love to talk about university and after-university experiences, or really anything related to my post. How do you cope with capitalist society? Looking forward to discussing with you.

...See more This might be a lengthy post, but I just wanted to let my thoughts and feelings out here. I am currently on the last year of high school and basically, this year would be so important to me. Why? Because it's time to determine which university I'd be applying for my tertiary education. The thing is, though my home country (Philippines) had some good schools, my ultimate desire is to study abroad. I have recently taken an entrance exam to one of the universities I tried applying for and another would be scheduled next year. It seems that my parents have decided to just keep me and would most likely urge me to take my degree here instead, although it opposes to the plans my heart was set on. Speaking of studying abroad, I wanted to continue my studies in Canada. Unfortunately, looking at my situation, it seems impossible to reach my dreams. We weren't that wealthy, my parents didn't want me too separated from them, and I'm too stupid to be independent. I have been working hard to improve myself in that aspect, but what's been happening to me has been clear....there will be a high chance that I will never pursue the degree I love in another country, which is disheartening. I always pray that there would still be a tiny chance of it turning into a reality. I always hoped that one day, I would make up into my own incapability to make it happen and the tables would soon be turned.

But my mind is so full of negative thoughts where i go through same thought process and have panic attacks. Im 20 years old and my medical entrance exam is in around a month. I can't study straight without being distracted by these thoughts . This exam is really important for my future.. Anyone has some advices for me?😥
