New Background to Address the Brightness Issue
Hello Community!
We updated the header a few weeks ago. Several of you across the team, leadership, and community let us know that the background was streamlined, but too bright. We put our heads together and worked with our designer and have landed on the below design. We've shared this with several folks that were concerned about brightness and they have let us know that they love it β€οΈ. We hope all of you do! This will go live site wide by the end of the week. Thoughts and comments welcome!
I appreciate this new update. I understand that the white theme was hard on the eyes. It is weird how little things can make so much impact. I find this much easier to look at and I am grateful for the quick fix on this end. This also looks soothing, a piece of nature on my very own desktop!

I love this so much! It looks so much better this way. I like how the buttons almost look like they're floating, haha. Also, the background is so much more friendly and comfy than all of the white.

This change made a huge difference for me! The graphics are also adorable and make the page feel much cozier.
@GlenM Looks very relaxing π
@GlenM woo, i love it!
@GlenM
Love it!!!
@GlenM
the new background looks great, i am so looking forward to it! thanks so much for the update!
One thing I really like about this new background is that it makes me feel like I'm sitting in a window in a retreat center looking out over the mountains. There is a big hike in front of us to the summit, but it feels hopeful and uplifting. I know we'll make it to the top and I'm looking forward to the journey with all of you.
I think it is soothing to the eyes. And I totally agree with you. Thank you π
Much love,

It would be so nice if another option
could also be made
to make the screen really dark
something like shown below:
Inverted like above is the very most relaxing,
especially in low light situations.
One way that people can get the inverted mode above
is by running a javascript bookmarklet in the browser.
That's what I do,
and that how I got the view shown above.
Another option is to use a browser extension to darken the screen.
But it would be so nice if inverted was a website-wide option here.
@7motivation I agree. When visiting the website at night, a hiking scene may look nice, but it is NOT dark.
@7motivation Hey there! The engineers are not comfortable recommending an extension, but do think @healingtalk's recommendation of the opera browser below is on target. Thank you for the feedback and we will work on the dark mode option; it'll just be a while out on the Web.
@GlenM
Thank you very much for the insights and feedback.
I hope your team can make the website darker because I think people will enjoy using it more then.
I sympathize that it's truly difficult to make an entire website have a dark mode.
The big challenge is keeping all the objects like pictures and graphics properly viewable.
Fortunately, my nitemode bookmarklet works very well.
I use it on many other websites too.
And I can always wear sunglasses too if necessary! π
