An Experiment In Gratitude - Dare You To Try It!

Heather January 1st, 2016

I'd like to share with you all a video that I really love. It's an experiment in gratitude! Check out the video here.

Did you know that gratitude is scientifically proven to increase your levels of warm, fuzzy happiness? 😁 That's why we have exercises in gratitude built into the Growth Path on 7 Cups! Members, you can access your Growth Path here.

It would be really cool if we could try out our own 7 Cups version of the experiment in the video and experience some of the goodness for ourselves. This is my challenge to you!

Here's how you can join in:

βž€ Who is your special person? Think of someone who has had a positive influence in your life. It might be a friend, relative, teacher, health care professional, or even someone on 7 Cups! You can share who it is below in this thread.

➁ What would you say to them? Write them a letter. Again, you can post it here in the forum if you'd like to share. We'd love to see!

βž‚ Do it! If it's possible to do so, send them the letter! You could post it, mail it, or phone them and read it out, just like in the video.

βžƒ Post here to let us know how it goes! What was their response? How did it make you feel?

BE BRAVE - I dare you!

Post below to let me know if you're joining in!

An excerpt from the letter I am giving to my dearest husband,

The road we've traveled together has never been an easy one. We've had many more difficult journeys than easy ones. However; those moments - the good ones - are the ones that keep me by your side and are the reason I cannot stray.

You have always had my heart and have treated it with as much respect and dignity as you could find at any given moment. I am always grateful that you have been a constant protector. From the dangers life throws at me to the dangers I present to myself it's been you who I can count on to save me. Even if I don't want you to.

Thank you.

I have already done it on New Year's, and it was a text message to a dear friend of mine. He is simply awesome in that he gave up a life of violent crime to become a pastor. He is facing so many issues but always takes time out to encourage me. So, I sent him a quote from the Book of Isaiah which simply says that God will find a way out.

Further, I would like to appreciate the vibrant personalities I meet of 7 cups chat every day and their fight to beat the odds has always encouraged me. So, on New Year's eve I did type that people in chat were awesome and would make it big in life.

Before I read any of the, what I am sure are awesome!, posts and replies below ...

This project intrigues me. and I loved the SoulPancake video too.

Please consider me "in!" I accept the challenge.

I have yet to figure out how to record myself with my laptop, or how to post things to YouTube... but I will write this out. I have two people that I think of right away ... maybe I'll do both. :)

Wonderful idea! Thank you :) - Platy

My person is my role model,I don't want to share her name publicly,so we'll call her Chloe.I have always wanted to tell her that she is my role model, but I never knew how so I guess here is my opportunity. Here's what I'd say:

Dear Chloe,

For the past two years, you have had an amazing influence on my life.I am so glad we met, because without you I wouldn't be where I am today. You have shown me how to be outgoing and show my true colors, and that I don't have to be afraid to speak up and stand out.Without you,I would have never discovered my love for the theatre or marching band flag line. You have been like a big sister to me,and I am proud to call you my role model.

Your friend,

Hannah

I would love to join in. I will be writing two letters one to my mum and one to my youngest sister. While i have gone through my troubles both have loved me, been beyond patient, understanding, a shoulder to cry on and expressed their own wisdom when ever i needed it. heart

the most special person I can think of is my (now) ex-boyfriend. it's been just over a week since we broke up, but if he'd listen to me, I'd tell him how he's the most level-headed, reasonable, and most kind individual I ever met. he changed me so much for the better when no one else ever gave me a hand or a chance. he means a lot to me still, even though he has tried to cut me out of his life. I'm waiting, though perhaps impatiently, for him to come around and want to give things another shot.

do you think it's a good idea to send him a physical letter even though he's blocked me online? I've been trying to decide whether or not to do it for this entire week.

@navyHemlock548 if you love someone, let them go, if they come back they were always yours. He might need time and space to realize how much he misses you and if he doesn't come back, maybe it was not meant to be. If you truly have love for someone you would only want to see them happy and safe.

I emailed an old Prof of mine. I told her how I continue to use what she taught me on a daily basis. I shared some stories about the reason why her summer classes we always full is because she was one of the best profs. She was so touched. I felt good to bring her that happiness
