Is anyone else on 7cups also doing NaNoWriMo?

integrityblues November 2nd, 2022

Hey everyone, it's been awhile since I posted in the Hobby Zone.

In my time zone its Day 2 of NaNoWriMo, and I just wondered if anyone else on this site was working on projects too?

I was able to hit my Day 2 word count and reached a total of 3,334 words.

@integrityblues wow that is great! I am doing my best to give it a go too. I have 'won' 3 times so far and then I thought I would carry on writing as I enjoyed it so much! But life got in the way.

What do you use to write? Do you use Scrivenor?

@MistyMagic

That's wonderful! I've been at it since 2008, win every year, and I have recently tried Camp NaNo too.

I used to use Microsoft Word. Now I used Google Docs!

FYI - NaNoWriMo is the National November Writing Month when people are challenged to write a novel of 50,000 words in the 30 day month of November

Dang, I hadn't even been thinking about it and I'm going on a several day trip, leaving tomorrow. I might low-key do the challenge again, just not on the same days. I did it about 5 years ago, and it was the only full novel that I've actually finished writing. My story involved a nexus point between worlds, and some of the worlds were really weird... Characters met up from different worlds and basically began exploring deeper into the Nexus point and eventually found themselves facing an irresponsible deity and a snarky wizard that keeps him in check. One of the main characters was actually already dead, and had been brought back as a memory until he actually inadvertently acquired deity powers... Another could basically save his luck to make something happen when he needed to. There were a lot of other darker themes. Overall, it was a bizarre mess, but still kind of fun. I truly believe I'll never fully be done editing it at this rate.

It's okay. I skipped writing yesterday because I felt so meh, but I'm going to continue with it and hope to hit 50K by the end of the month.

Your novel sounds pretty cool!

@Torean

I was going to do two at first, but I've been focusing on one idea for now. I'm writing a bunch of fanfics inspired by my favorite songs by Ludo!

Right on, I'd never listened to him before. After a sample, I can see how his lyrics might work for that.

Oh yeah, I was hooked on the band's style when I first heard "Love Me Dead" on the radio back in 2008!

How does everyone write so much in a day? I can only write a few hundred a day, thousand max but rare. I find I end up rewriting a chapter three times to add more description in. How do I make it come naturally? I want to be a better writer but I guess I'm awful at it but still enjoy it.

@CalmCoral Hey Coral! The trick seems to be to not edit, just to write, get those thoughts down on the page and don't worry too much about typos, grammar or paragraphs even. Those can all be done afterwards when we edit and tweak or change things.

At first it took me ages to get the hang of it, I was always correcting and thinking about what I had written, changing words and adjectives etc. But after a while I wrote and can get up to 3,000 words a day!
