[OLD THREAD] Project Achieve Your Goals - 18+

Laura December 2nd, 2015

Setting goals is the easy part...reaching them can be more challenging!

Having someone support you in reaching your personal goals can be incredibly helpful. Today, wed like to announce a new community program aimed at helping you reach your goals.

Well need both listeners & members to make this happen! Here is how you can get involved in this project:

Members:

Step 1: Post a goal youd like to work towards in this thread. Be specific! Goals work great when you can make them measurable. Usually that involves a time period and a number of times. Additionally, you want to start by making goals achievable. Do not make your goals too hard or you will grow frustrated and not be able to reach them. Much better to make them easy to accomplish to build your confidence right from the start.

examples:

I want to cook dinner for myself 3 nights per week

I want to go to the gym 1 time per week

Take 3 growth path steps every day

Step 2: Specify if you'd like a listener to check in on you 1 or 2x/week.

Step 3: Wait for a listener to reply to you! They will reply and let you know they will support you reach this goal.

Step 4: PM this listener to get going! They will not be able to support you by checking in on you if you do not first PM them. If you find that a listener has not followed up, then please post again and request another listener.

Step 5: Post your progress each week in this thread and also on your feed so more people can support you in achieving your goals.

Step 6: Once you have achieved your goal and the new behavior or habit has been consistent for 21 days, then apply for the Goal 1 Badge. We'll likely have several goals, so there will be Goal 2, Goal 3 etc. (Feel free to help us come up with better names!)

Listeners:

Step 1: Wait for members to share their goals in this thread! When you see a goal/member youd like to support, reply to their forum post and let them know!

Step 2: Once this member has messaged you and established connection over PM, its your job to better understand the members goal, why its important and what you can do to best support them.

Step 3: Make a commitment! Check-in with this member twice per week and enquire about the goal!

Step 4: Let us know how you and your member are doing! In this thread, we will track your progress as team. Post here to let us know how it's going!

Step 5: After your member has reached their goal, let us know and apply for the Coach badge. More details on this soon!

To do my best in new things and think positive

Hi @tjb28 - glad you are focusing on the positive. You have stated your overall intentions. There are steps that you can take to reach that end and the more defined they are the easier it is to do them.

For instance, for me I will practice yoga at least and hour a day on average. Then I put the practice times on my calendar to fit in my schedule for that week. You can put reminders on your phone for those times so you just don't sleep through it as I have once in a while :)

For getting options that work for you or for setting more precise steps to satisfy your intentions, send me a message http://www.7cups.com/@soulsings

I do have a short term goal.

I would like every day to feel like it meant something. Like I meant something. I want to do nice things, and be helpful to those around me. I want to love selflessly, and give to others freely. That way, I can lay my head down at the end of my day knowing it was worth something.

In theory, this is a HUGE change to make. However, one good deed at a time isn't that daunting to think of. I can do little things for people all over all day long. Those add up.

I think of it this way, it's baby steps and baby steps take forever! BUT if i focus on the baby steps one at a time, eventually i'll have taken the equivalence of a few large steps, and that doesn't sound too bad to me.

Hi @palmitespo910 - great idea for a short term or long term goal. Helping others means we spend more time focusing on other people's needs and less time on our sense of what we are lacking.

An example of that is being a listener here at 7CUPS where I offer my time and training to someone that is searching for something. It is different every time. But it can be a chance to get outside my whining zone, "oh if I only had more ______________ I would be happy." Those whinings are never true but they really keep me stuck in a place like tar or glue.

Helping others is a great way to get unstuck. If you care to send me a message or have a 1-1 chat, send me a message to http://www.7cups.com/@soulsings

I want to get over my fear of food and loose weight in 2016... I feel like food has tormented me my whole life in some capacity or another and I don't want it to control me anymore.

@LifeIsMyCanvas

I have been working on my goal alone. So far I have been able to:

- touch/cook raw meat/fish/eggs - super excited about that

- learn to cook for myself, I have been creating foods I would buy from the take out at home in much healthier versions. I think mine even taste better ^_^

- reduce my purging/anxiety based behaviours around meal times

- eat at more regular times and be more mindful of when I am hungry/thirsty to avoid starving/over eating

It's only been a couple of weeks and I'm still looking for someone to support/check in with me. I do talk about this with my counsellor also but we often have a lot more issues to deal with and don't always get around to talking about food so some additional support from a listener would be very welcome.

I'm not looking for a nutritional expert, a diet or anything like that, just someone who can help me stay mindful of my need for self care and good food. Thanks!

Hi @diplomaticShade2167 I understand how it would be so wonderful to feel less anxious and depressed. Good goal. There are different options you have available: self help guides, 1-1 chats, forums, chat, professional therapist and or psychiatrist, and support groups.

If you want to discuss any of these options in more detail, please send me a message to http://www.7cups.com/@soulsings

Hoping to put on 10 kgs. Lost to much weight

soulsings January 1st, 2016

Hi @diplomaticShade2167 - good to add weight so you are near ideal weight.

I find eating smaller meals every 3-4 hours with protein and no sugar helps me keep my weight and emotional balance as well. Carbs can be helpful in moderation but too many carbs just can be converted to fat. Protein and exercise can strengthen muscles and bones. For me yoga is great for this.

@diplomaticShade2167 good luck with your goal! I will also be working to continue gaining weight. Periodic snacks during the day like trail mix, dried fruit, and protein/granola bars are really helpful for me. Wishing you good health this new year :)
