Finding comfort through grief using mindfulness
Check In for : December 2nd to December 4th 2024
Last week I had to put our family fur baby of 12 years down because she was having problems walking, her hips were giving out . Some know I own a pit bull named harley davidson, she is our world and it was too much seeing her in pain. Here is the last picture of her waiting at the vet.
How do we find comfort through grief:
Grief is associated with losing a loved one, relatives, friends and pets. It can also mean losing a job we were doing for years or a long marriage or relationship dating someone. Grief is a mixture of a lot of feelings and emotions. The path of grief is a personal journey we all go through it some hit ourselves more than others, it is how to deal with it, we are all different in handling things.
There are times when grief can come back after experiencing it first time around. The following is how to handle grief when we are experiencing it .
Common ways grief may show up:
Emotional rollercoaster: The range of emotions we face are anger, sadness, guilt, confusion and even relief. No one is the same how we handle these emotions may be different person to person.
Physical symptoms: Grief can also effect our physical well being. It can bring fatigue making us want to sleep our worries away. It can also hinder our daily activities to where we do not want to do anything, headaches and stomach aches.
Social withdrawal: Grief can make us not want to be around anyone during social functions. It also can make it hard to talk about to others, so we distance ourselves.
What are some ways you handle grief?
What emotions are you feeling when dealing with it?
There are a lot more different ways grief affects us it is how we manage to handle them to feel a little better.

I am so sorry for your loss pam. Losing a beloved dog often feels like losing a loved family member.

When I lost my dogs due to age, I never had the time to grieve. Those days were kind of chaotic for me and I just had to focus on getting through in life. This is about 24 years ago and for more than 15 years I was mourning inside, carried a deep pain with me. My dogs were like my babies. I still dream about them but it's okay now. One thing I like to tell everyone who experiences loss is to let your feelings out, never suppress them because suppressed feelings will not leave you.
When my mother passed away this year, I allowed myself to feel what I felt, I was in disbelief and cried but I could come to terms with it.
Feelings need to be acknowledged and heard.

I agree that pets are family members. Harley had a lot of aunts, uncles, boyfriends and BFF's. I know I did the right things just hard because she was so all over the shop or house. I guess right now grieving is going to last and eventually I can face the fact it must of been hard on her too
@pamharley003 😥😥 I'm so sorry about your fur baby😥 loosing a part of your family, is devastating 🙁 hugs you tightly ❤ we are all here for you ❤
the ways I deal with grief, is take it one day at a time, it creeps up on you different days, months times of the year. It always helps me to have a place to go where I can talk to him and God. It also helps to write him poems and but him presents. But the best advice is to just let yourself feel and go through the emotions ❤
@pamharley003 so sorry for your loss, they're are definitely family
@pamharley003 I'm so sorry about your fur baby. It's so hard saying goodbye ❤️

You suffered 2 big losses in short time! This is not easy to deal with and I can understand that you feel afraid to face those painful emotions. Do you feel that talking to someone like a listener here or participating in sharing circle could help?
Sending comforting beams your way 💙
@mytwistedsoul hi
I came back to 7cups after years because I'm dealing with grief right now and I think I'm feeling like you...like I need to reroute.
I have had severe depression for over 2 years now and were stable for about 4 months before my aunt passed away November 19th. I'm still so heartbroken...she was like a second mother to me.
Anyway, my point is: I keep trying to avoid to deal with the emotions I need to deal with, but it's making me have a relapse on my treatment. Don't do this to yourself...I know it's hard, it's so, so painful, but it's necessary. Avoiding my feelings and letting numbness take over is how I got to the bottom.
Seek professional help if you need to, I had to. I know we don't know each other, but we are in this together...for real.
@uselessfat I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sorry you're relapsing. I know that makes it harder too. I know I'm not dealing with all this in a healthy way but more the way I was taught and how I was expected to deal with anything involving emotions. I have a therapist that been helping with emotions involving childhood trauma but then these losses happened but I've been thinking maybe I need to see someone who focuses on grief
@mytwistedsoul sorry man for your losses. Sending you some peace and strength. Keep ya head up lad. Best wishes, cal 🤜🤛
@pamharley003 I am very sorry for your loss. I truly am.
I'm so sorry. I know how hard that is. I had to put my furry soil mate down a couple years ago and it still hurts like crazy today. They really move in to our hearts and make it impossible for us to let them go. But for me, the love and experience I had with him is worth 1000 of those heart aches. Hopefully you feel the same as well. You made a very difficult decision for the benefit of your baby. That's a tremendously hard thing to do and speaks volumes about your character. I'm so sorry your going through this but I'm also so happy for all the memories and good times you have to hold on to. 💗
May your pet rest in everlasting peace. Very sorry for your loss.
