Is there a difference between Self - car and selfish and if so what is the differences. First let's explain  what both mean.

Self - care is building yourself to be a better person ex: spouse, parent, friend, sibling. Selfishness is when we take from others to better ourselves. Selfishness is putting yourselves first before others. Being in self care means we are taking care of our mental, physical, psychological and professional person.

Do you give to others first before yourself?

When can being selfish hurt ourselves and others?

I put others first when it is needed and provided, I have the energy and will not suffer from it.

Being selfish would mean to me that I do not live in accordance with my values and that would make me feel very bad and risk to lose my self-respect. We are made to support each other and share. If someone just takes care of their own needs but could help people might lose trust in others.

Yes, i consider helping others once I have taken care of myself first.

When can being selfish hurt ourselves and others?

Being selfish can hurt ourselves and others when we take from others for personal gain for ourselves. It hurts our self esteem, respect from others and also our relationships with others.

I wanna try to be selfish..

Because when u are selfish, nobody can hurt u, harm u.

If u always consider about others, they don't even try understand why they are getting while u are sacrificing for themselves . And , at a time they will neglect u and forget about u.

The world is cruel. That's why I wanna think about myself first then, the others.

You should try being selfish. Everyone deserves to try everything and see how it works for them.

I love how you say you want to be selfish first and then help others. I think this is the best way to help others - to help yourself first.

I'm sorry to read that you seem to need to protect yourself from hurt and harm from others. That suggests someone has hurt you and I'm sad to hear that.

I wonder if you can try loving yourself as well as trying being selfish? I think long term, being selfish can harm ourselves, which can then lead us to harm others. And I suspect you wouldn't want to be like those that hurt you. While loving yourself increases the love in the world and makes it easier to love others.

But first be you. It is OK to be angry. It's what you do with that anger that matters, and it sounds like you want to use that anger to better yourself. So go you.

I think the harm thing is key. Selfish actions are those that help one person while harming others. Self care helps one person while hopefully not adversely impacting anyone else.

The problem is that there are some cultures that have the belief that simply putting yourself first is somehow harmful to others. I was taught this. By not putting others first, I supposedly am doing them harm. However, you can't put others first unless you yourself are in a strong position. Otherwise you are harming yourself, which is unsustainable and will end up with no one getting anything.

Pick the splinter out of your own eye, before trying to help the person with dust in their eye.

I have heard somewhere that "Self care is putting your needs before everyone's wants. Selfishness is putting your wants before others needs."

And of course this isn't all encompassing for every scenario and relationship. But it is a good way to gauge the difference! ☺️
