Bio

Hi! I'm Sierra! I have a passion for helping people. I have an associates in Human Services and I am currently in a Bachelors program for Sociology with a concentration in Human Services. I plan to also go for a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Other things about me, I have a black cat and his name is Bigby (from the videogame Wolf Among Us). I also love to hike, read, knit, do yoga and Pilates and I overall love to try something new whether it is a new hobby or a new recipe!

**Also I would like to put here that I set a small amount of time each week (about a few hours) for 1 on 1 chats. Always feel free to message me but know that if my status is red (inactive) it could take up to or a little over a week to respond. I try to set aside time so I am giving people my full attention and energy to listen and help the best I can!

Toxic Positivity
Positivity & Gratitude / by sierrarain03

...See more I would like to share a post that I have found because I have wanted to address the issue of Toxic Positivity It can be hard to know when to distinguish between the two, so I hope this post can give guidance to listeners who may struggle with expressing positivity in a healthy way ( it can be hard to do, I struggle with this as well!) Why is this important? In a forum that is centered around positivity, I think sometimes it can be hard to recognize that we could be (unintentionally) pushing off or ignoring the very real emotions and situations people are going through by saying something along the lines of "Everything will be okay!" "There is nothing to worry about!" etc etc.  And although, a line like "Everything will be okay" may be helpful coupled with other sentences of empathy and understanding of what the person is going through, words like these can be harmful and can diminish the other people's feelings or concerns when not used in the right context.  It is also important to make space for negative feelings such as sadness and anger whether it is for yourself or for the people around you. It is healthy to express these emotions with balance and you do not have to be positive/happy/care free all the time! (That is what makes us wonderfully human :) ) This isn't just for listeners but for members as well! Whether it is the fact that you want to be a supportive friend for someone going through a hard time OR you struggle with dealing with your own emotions and hide it with positivity (a lot of people do this so you are not alone!) I hope this is helpful! Let's be on the journey to healthy positivity together! :)

Gratitude Challenge!
Positivity & Gratitude / by sierrarain03

...See more I wanted to share an image I found on Pinterest relating to gratitude today! I understand that there are some in here that people may not relate to or resonate with. That is okay! This list can inspire people to reflect on at least one thing they are grateful for! Sometimes it can be hard to do, especially with mental health that skews your view of the world negatively. But I want this to be a challenge for people that have had a difficult time seeing any good around them or within themselves, and to find something that they enjoy or see beauty in! Feel free to reply to this post with an answer, write in a journal, or take a moment to think about it! One thing that I am grateful for is my cat! He brings me so much comfort in my day-to-day life!  🥰 ( If you are wondering why and how gratitude is good for mental health, check out this article: The Impact of Gratitude on Mental Health)
