...See more Optimism is the ability to look at the positives of a situation. It is also the ability to think positively. What are some of the benefits of being optimistic? People who are more optimistic have better pain management, improved immune and cardiovascular function, and greater physical functioning. Optimism helps buffer the negative effects of physical illness  What is optimistic bias? The tendency to overestimate the likelihood of positive outcomes and downplay the possibility of negative ones is called optimistic bias. Evidence suggests that men and women share similar levels of optimism, but there are gender differences in what they are optimistic about. Men, for example, have been found to hold more optimistic views about the economic future. During economic downturns, however, the gender difference disappears. Causes of optimism Some of the factors that influence one to be optimistic are culture, environment, genetics and upbringing. Effects/Impacts of being Optimistic ·       Better Health: Studies have shown that individuals who are optimistic have less cardiovascular issues. ·       Greater Achievement: Being optimistic gives us positive energy which helps us achieve our goals. ·       Persistence: Optimists are more likely to face challenges, setbacks and obstacles than pessimists. They are less likely to give up easily. ·       Emotional Health: Research suggests that cognitive therapy (which involves reframing a person's thought processes) can be as effective or more effective than antidepressant medications in the treatment of clinical depression. ·       Increased Longevity: Optimists tend to live longer ·       Less Stress: Optimists have better stress management than pessismists. How can one be more optimistic?

...See more Empathy is the ability to put yourself in others shoes. It is the ability to understand the feelings and emotions of the other person. Compassion is the emotional response to sympathy or empathy and creates a desire to help. Where empathy creates understanding, compassion is more likely to inspire feelings of concern, worry, or sympathy. Compassion is related to taking action whereas empathy is related to feeling. Some of the ways we can be compassionate are as follows: ·       Forgiveness: Forgive someone who has wronged you. ·       Help someone in need: For example, helping an old person cross the road, helping a person carry the groceries to the car, etc. Even the simplest of such acts matter. ·       Listening and being patient with others: For example, actively listening to a person who is facing a challenge in their life. Some of the ways we can show empathy are as follows: ·       Actively listening to others: It involves asking questions or restating what the other person has shared. ·       Being able to sense the other person’s emotions: The ability to identify and detect the emotion the other person is facing ·       Feeling what the other person is feeling: It may seem like you are absorbing their emotions.

...See more Creativity is one of the most needed characteristics in any area of your life. Be it in the school/college, workplace, in the house etc. There are many different ways people show their creativity.  So what is creativity. It is the ability to make use of new ideas and turn them into reality. I usually am a creative person. Personally, I like to crochet many things- it has become my hobby recently. I have also found joy in journaling .   There are many areas a person can be creative at. It can be one area or more than one. For example, one might like paint and create art whereas the other might find pleasure to write stories or even books. Thus, we are all unique in our own ways.  Creativity is a skill that can be learned. You can learn to be creative by experimenting, exploring, questioning assumptions, using imagination and synthesizing information. Learning to be creative is akin to learning a sport. It requires practice to develop the right muscles and a supportive environment in which to flourish.  Some quotes on creativity  “A creative life is an amplified life. It's a bigger life, a happier life, an expanded life, and a *** of a lot more interesting life” – Elizabeth Gilbert “Art is the elimination of the unnecessary.” – Pablo Picasso "Creativity is seeing what others see and thinking what no one else ever thought." – Albert Einstein “Don’t wait for inspiration. It comes while working." – Henri Matisse
Getting to know the things within your control

...See more Hello everyone. We all face these difficult emotions during difficult situations. But I want to let you all know that we must learn to control all those things that are within our control and not let those things that are not within our control affect us( i.e the situation). All we can do is change the things within our control. For example: what I say to people, what I focus on i.e how and on what things I spend my energy on, my thoughts, my boundaries, etc. People need help when the things that are out of their control affects them. For example a person worrying about the future and the past is likely to neep support and help. There are are many other areas in one's life that one worries or gets anxious about. These are just the negative emotions which disappear when we learn to redirect our focus on things that are more in our control( our thoughts). Thus by doing this, we learn to accept these undesirable emotions.

...See more Hi everyone. I guess we all face this during the phase of exams . It is considered normal when we are able to handle the situation and experience some anxiety. But not normal when the levels are high. To get rid of this high level of anxiety, we need to start looking at things we are avoiding in terms of academics and consider taking more time to learn. Start making a schedule for yourself. Take time to study. There is no other solution to exam anxiety. Just study.
