Hello Leadership Crew!
Welcome to our 4th discussion in this first course. In todays discussion, we will be talking about systems vs. goals.
To start, please read this post here  and watch this video.
The basic argument here is that having a system is better than having a goal. A system is a way of behaving that helps you move towards accomplishing something. A goal is usually and end state that happens after you have accomplished something. I think eating healthy is a good example. A goal might be to lose 10 pounds. In this case, you feel kind of bad about yourself until you hit that goal; and then, once you hit it, you kind of lose the purpose because the goal has been reached. If you relapse and gain wait again, then you fall back into feeling bad about yourself again. Contrast this with a system of eating healthy. A system might include things like: having a big glass of water prior to each meal; eating a lot of fruits, vegetables, and nuts; not eating after 9pm; and/or doing some level of intermittent fasting. You wouldnt integrate all of these new healthy eating behaviors at once. Instead, youd gradually introduce one and then another and then another over whatever period of time makes sense. The system enables you to continuously get healthier and healthier. You will eventually reach the goal, but itll be the byproduct of eating healthy.
Another example might be education. I dont really care all that much about grades for my kids. I mostly want them to learn and enjoy learning. We talk about what they learn, we draw things, they make their own educational videos, they explain things to me in their own words etc. I want them to have a system of learning and refining their perspective on things. If they have this system, then having good grades will be a natural result of enjoying learning.
This also has implications for 7 Cups as well. We might have goals of having a certain amount of group support messages or 1:1 messages. Those are fine goals to have, but we mostly want to create a system of support where people care for one another and then the natural result is an increased number of messages. Or, zooming back, think about this leadership development program. We could have an arbitrary goal of training a certain number of new leaders to serve our community; or we can co-create a system - this leadership development program - that helps people become leaders. The natural consequence of the program will be a higher number of trained, competent, and strong leaders that can better support our community. Â

What is a key system that you need to set up in your life to help you succeed?
Gratitude system- This is by finding joy and appreciating the little things that life has got to offer. This will help me succeed in life as it will help me to become more optimistic even when life throws me a lot of lemons, more enthusiastic as a new day approaches even when the cycle is repetitive and more happy to work with other people.
What are 3 behaviors you can implement to help you gradually grow that new system in your life?
1. Daily journaling the little joys that I have experienced for example getting a licence.
2. Daily journaling the positive personalities of people who make me angry.
3. Daily journaling ways of turning negative situations into lessons or stepping stones.

What is a key system that you need to set up in your life to help you succeed?
The system I wish to setup for myself is to start being organized. Yes, I do get the job done when given a task. But at times I wonder, could this have been done more efficiently in a different way by following a certain system?
What are 3 behaviors you can implement to help you gradually grow that new system in your life?
One of the three things I must improve upon would be the aspect where there’s an uneven balance of Give and Take in my life. Giving is indeed a great thing to do. However, things take an ugly turn when I sense the feeling of burnouts.
Second is to work on people, interpersonal and public speaking skills. At the moment, I lack a lot of public skills and merely get by with people and interpersonal. Now I know for a fact that these skills will help me in the longer run. 7Cups has greatly been helping me get over the fear of expressing in Public Forums.
Lastly, I would like to be able to interpret the intentions of people who approach me on various scenarios, both work and personal front. I think having this skill would greatly help maintaining the Give : Take ratio.
Thank you!

1. To be proud of who I am today and to be proud of how far I've come.
2. Practice gratitude
Give love and accept love
Keep you mind and heart open for new things
Have a planner with dates things are due, Buy a planner, use it, and focus on all my due dates.
@GlenM
i want to set up for myself is to not be too giving to others, don't get me wrong, i love giving my all in order to help others, but sometimes i tend to over give , which quite naturally drains me
Three things i would like to improve myself on would be firstly , fix my commitment phobia, i tend to lose interest or focus too soon too fast and cant keep at something for long , i want to improve that. Second would be expecting too much from people, expectations are good but i want to keep that to a minimum, so that it doesn't cause me more harm then needed. Thirdly, i would love to improve my interaction skills
I'd like to use a checklist to organize the things I should do/prioritize daily.
The 3 behaviors I can implement are:
1. Be honest and firm with myself when setting goals
2. Practise self-affirmations
3. Be diligent but mindful when completing tasks to prevent burnouts
@GlenM
A key system that I would like to set up in my life is gradually decreasing the amount of time I spend procrastinating my introducing a study routine that I feel comfortable with as procrastinating has led to a gradual decline in the amount of sleep that I have been getting as well as an increased sense of pressure to finish tasks within a tight deadline.
1. I can try existing study methods such as Pomodoro and see if that works out for me.
2. I can also try avoiding or decreasing the amount of time that I spend on things that can divert my attention from my assignment such as television/social media.
3. I can implement rewards in order to motivate me to finish a reasonable portion of my tasks.

Well, from my personal use I will go with not thinking so much. As was said in the personalities tests, I tend to overthink everything, like everything, from what will others say about me to what I will do in impossible situations.
1. First of all, now knowing I need a system, not just a line of goals, I will try meditations exercise every day, to teach myself is ok to relax and I don't need to be in an alert mode always.
2. Second, I will go more out, I will put myself in different social interactions to prove to myself that others don't care about what I do, or how or about others in general.
3. And the last one, hmm... It sounds like nothing, but to clean my room. Maybe isn't something so interesting, but I think if I would have a safe and clean space to rest, I will feel better about myself and I will just pause my brain :)

I want to be less judgmental. I will do that through self-reflection.

What is a key system that you need to set up in your life to help you succeed?
I need to set up a special key which is "positivity." This key will allow me to focus on my positive aspects and my previous successes so I'll be able to continue my journey of additional success.
What are 3 behaviours you can implement to help you gradually grow that new system in your life?
1. Social impact arrangement: I have to set a good goal to my social circle so that I can have a good impact on them in order to have a good relationship or even leadership role on them.
2. Free time usage: I have to use my free time in the things I like as music and drawing. This will make me have more amusement and will make me avoid depression and negative thinking.
3. Organizing priorities: from time to time, I get to organize my priorities from the wide choices of progress that I have in my life. So, I get to choose which things are the most that I need to focus on first.
