Course 3: PL 102 - One Key Metric (Discussion 5)
We've been talking about denial and distraction in this course. It is pretty easy to get knocked off track in life. One way to stay on track is to have a core metric that guides you. If you have a north star that you are working towards, then you know how well you are doing. It is harder to be in denial or to participate in activities that are less helpful in meeting that goal. Â
There are 2 parts to this discussion. Â
1. Work with your team or mentor and identify the key metric you are hoping to help move. Post daily (or the cadence that makes sense) in the  3 key things thread to highlight what you are doing to help us move 7 Cups forward. Please post here why this goal of choosing a single metric is important. Think of how this is important in your professional life, but also how this can help you personally as well. Â
2. (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise. If not comfortable, then please share how the exercise impacted you. What you imagine them telling you is your compass. If you are acting in a way that is consistent with what they are saying, then it is very likely that you will end up living a meaningful life. Remember to listen to and follow this compass so as not to be distracted by the clock. Â

This aim of selecting a single metric is critical because it enables us to define our "direction," where we want to go and what we want to accomplish. Goals assist us in being focused and motivated on a single task. If you behave in accordance with what they say, it is quite probable that you will end up having a meaningful life.
I would rather not share but I have already died and was resuscitated and carry my own beliefs about death that often others could find my beliefs offensive.

Choosing a single metric is important so that you can focus on improving on that thing. Sometimes if we have multiple things that we are working on some get lost along the way nor can we devote the amount of time and energy into really improving and growing them. For example, focusing on hosting discussions will benefit the community/professional life. Creating a warm and inviting atmosphere will help others feel more supported and comfortable here on cups. By hosting discussions we are creating a place where people that know about the topic can feel understood and find others dealing with similar problems so they feel less alone and educate ones that are not as knowable. This is all working to fill the community gas tank as we spread kindness to each other. Personally, I am also having a positive attitude and helping out others which helps me. By only having one I can be more focused with my time on growing my skills as a discussion host. It will help me along my path knowing where i need to spend my time in order to keep growing.

This exercise made me feel very vulnerable but it was very impactful for me and made me really reflect on my life. I think that often I find myself in survival mode, just trying to get through the day. I follow a routine, I keep my head down and try not to bother other people, to make myself invisible. I think it also made me rethink my priorities in my life. I think this exercise made me more aware of my day-to-day actions. The little things that we do define us as people. Say maybe I want to be remembered as someone who was kind. I must find ways to spread kindness to others. It made me reflect on where I am in life now and where I would like to be in the future. We all have things to work on but we need to recognize and acknowledge those things in order to make improvements. I think this exercise made me see the path that I would like to be on rather than just be aimless.

Answer Q1/
patience
keep learning
Clarity
Answer Q2/
-It's a great exercise that shows me how the world really works and enables the transition from fear and anxiety to peace and shows how caring for others makes you relate to a good, deeper life, and in order to make sure they say that at my funeral, I must take deliberate steps every day and week to make sure I agree with This goal is okay to go off track or have busy times. This is not a problem, but if I want to be known to them as close and loving people, I need to be on the right track constantly!

1) I have spent time on earning badges & certifications
2) I make sure to listener thoroughly to every member that I try to help
3) I also make sure to log on and help out members I have helped in the past!

I think that having a single metric to focus on helps one become less overwhelmed with the goal and feel more focused.
2. (TW: themes that deal with death) Read chapter 12 and do the exercise where you imagine it is the end of your life. If comfortable, post what you imagine people saying to you at the conclusion of the exercise.
(I will share what I would want my best friend to say about me)
She was always filled with life and always strived to enhance the lives of those around her. She was the most caring and compassionate individual I have ever known. The world will be less bright without her in it, and I’m just praying she is in a better place.
@magicmango26

To be honest, I hope people are able to talk about me in a positive light. I also hope that I made a positive impact in their lives.

1.Identify the key metric you are hoping to help move:
- Having productive conversation with members.
- Finding ways to improve my listening
- Trying to be available to the best of my ability
The goal of choosing a single metric is important because it gives you one thing to focus on instead of taking on too many things.

@incrediblelistener78
1. to find more focus
@TheRusticMystic74
Yes agree
Finding ways to better my communication with the members, having productive conversations with members, choosing a single metric is important because you don’t want to focus on too much at one time because you can get overwhelmed if you focus on too many things at one time. This exercise impacted me because it got me thinking of what people think and say of me.
@glowingSoul93
Yes, agree with the last point
1)It's so nice to see how many people have achieved so many different stuff here on 7cups! I think it helps us to see to take a break and reflect on our progress! It keeps us motivated and focused on our goals and tasks. We don't get distracted by other things.
2)It helped me to see how people's comments and actions can change your life and your character! Personally, I just want to help people in every way I can. I am not sure what my purpose is but I know that I want to do something that I can help people!! This exercise helped me a lot and I would love to try it again when I feel like I am fading
@GlenM
