Hello, students! Let's talk leadership!

Many of you have or will apply for certain roles that interest you! And some times we get it and some times we don't! It can be difficult to find out that we didn't get the role, but we can control how we react to it.

Here are some DOs and DON'Ts:

- DO talk to the leader of the role that you applied for and get some input on what you can/need to do in order to get the role next time! Be aware though most leaders of these roles are busy so give it some time!

- DON'T bring the issue into the support rooms. If you are upset, talking to a peer supporter about how you are feeling is ok!

- DO take some self-care, self-care is good for any occasion but its best to deal with those feelings of failure or disappointment outside of 7 cups, things like going on your member account can be so helpful to overcome some of these feelings

- DON'T think that you are obligated to stay on 7 cups right after finding out bad news, especially if you are in LSR/TL and you see other listeners who have gotten the role that you wanted! It can be hard to deal with and it can cause unneeded jealousy or hurt on your part! Not everyone is like this but if you think that this is a possibility that you can think this way staying away might be a great option!

- DON'T take it personally, everyone is ready at different times. It can be hard for us to realize this but just because someone got the role and they might have been here in less or the same amount of time doesn't mean that you personally are ready! Everyone grows and accomplishes things at different times!

- DO get a mentor, in general its a good idea to get a mentor but for things like your goals on 7 cups mentors can be great and helpful! They can give you feedback, do mock chats with you, and overall help you with your goals as I said before!

- DON'T think you have to apply for every role and every team out there! There is time you don't have to apply for everything! Its super easy to burnout that way, and that can lead to more "rejection" and hurt that none of us want!

*Never let not getting a role the first time discourage you! You will be told when you can apply again and use the feedback that you get to better yourself when you can/decide that you are ready to! practice makes perfect none for us are perfect and no one will ever be! Its a good thing to remember no matter your role as a listener your help is greatly appreciated and you are still helping so many people!*

Question: If you find out you were not given a role, how should you respond? What would you say to the leader who has informed you?

Activity: Please reply to 3 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words!

After fulfilling the requirements of this post, please check out the next post here! You must take part in the brainstorming/activities given in all of these posts to successfully complete the program.

@Heather225

if i found out i was not given a role, i would want to try and work harder and continue to improve myself in order to get that role :) ambition is so important and it can help you achieve the roles you want to achieve more easily !

i would say something like this to the leader who has informed me: hi there ! <3 i wanted to just ask you for your input and feedback on how i can improve on certain aspects in order to get the role i wanted ! i really do want to achieve this for myself and practice growing as a person as well. i want to strengthen my skills, and i thought it'd be a great idea to get some ideas on how to do that from someone who has more experience :) i really appreciate it !

  1. I would feel nice since I am not good with commitment so because it would have taken a lot of courage on my part to fill that application it would be relief but I will still ask what I have done wrong to apply it in near future . Also t will give me more time to understand t's ok it happens but there is no time to feel sad its work and learn together for one step at a time and there is always a next time on the Bright Side, I will say thank you to the leader for informing me .

If you find out you were not given a role, how should you respond?

If I wasn't given the role that I wanted, I would probably be upset at first so I would make sure that when I respond that I am calm (not emotional) and in a better headspace. But I would remind myself that not every role is right for me nor will I get it on the first try and to be happy for the person who did it because they deserved it. I would ask the leader for feedback and areas that I need to improve on. I would make sure to get in touch with a listener coach/mentor so that I can address those areas of need so that I can do better the next time I appie.

What would you say to the leader who has informed you?

Thank you so much for letting me have the opportunity to apply for this role. I am very grateful. I realize that there are areas that I need to work on. I will gladly take your feedback and continue to learn and grow, I hope to re-apply for the role when I have improved on the areas that need improvement<3 thank you so much for your time

Question:If you find out you were not given a role , how should you respond? what would you say to the leader who has informed you?

I will feel sad, of course, but I will ask the leader to give me a leadership role, but after I develop my skills more and try to know my weaknesses and strengths so that I can perform my role in a better way.

I think it's a great think that you would ask for feedback from the listener that reaches out to you.

If I found out that I wasn’t given a role I should and will respond with thank you and I’ll try to get it next time. I would first thank the leader for letting me know and then ask if I can make any improvements for next time.

I would do my very best to respond positively and with grace. Yes, I would be sad, however, I would also be grateful for the opportunity. I would tell the leader that I am grateful for their time and look forward to continue helping others on 7cups in a slightly different capacity!

Answer: If I find out that I was not given a role, I would respond with patience and acceptance. I would ask the leader who had informed me about the ways to make myself better so that I would be able to get the role as a leader.

If you find out you were not given a role, how should you respond? What would you say to the leader who has informed you?

I would accept the fact that I haven't been given the role and thank them for taking the time to read my application. I will repeat to myself that it's okay not to get accepted and there is always a second chance! Sometimes, we need to stay positive and keep up with the good work! I would thank them for taking the time to respond to me and if I have any questions I would let them know, so I can improve and reapply again in the near future.
