7 Cups is founded on a community of passionate volunteers who lovingly dedicate their time to providing support.
You may face what is called burnout during your journey. You may have already faced this in your real life. Burnout is very real and must be recognized. You can't help fuel someone else when your tank is empty, after all!
To address and learn about burnout, we have created a slidedeck on how to avoid burnout.
Activity: Please read it through and in the replies, tell us what you learned, and what you will do to stay healthy and avoid burnout!
Then, please reply to 3 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words!
After completing the course quiz, please proceed to this post!
This post is brought to you by the Leadership Development Program Team, find out more information about the program here.
▪︎ What you learned, and what you will do to stay healthy and avoid burnout?
~I learned about the symptoms of burnout, and could relate to some of them. I realized a specific pattern in some tasks and there are some specific situations I need to work on. I learned some ways to avoid burnout.
Ways to avoid burnout:
Spend some time to reflect on things that affect you, assess the symptoms and the reason you're having a burnout.
Make some boundaries and try to stick to them, because they're important and can help avoid burnout.
Take self care breaks if you feel you need one, communicate with your team members and let them know about the same.
Be mindful of the time you spend online, and make sure you don't overburden yourself, making a schedule and sticking to it could help.
I have learned that our work makes a difference and that it's important that we take care of ourselves too in the process. Noticing signs of burnout is part of this. Since burnout can be bad for us as well as what we do, we must avoid it and take self-care breaks whenever necessary.
To stay healthy and avoid burnout, I will make sure to have clear boundaries and not undermine the importance of breaks. I will only take up work with the pressure I can handle without affecting other areas of life.
@sereneButton43
yes, it is about having a balance which can be a challenging thing to figure out.
@Heather225
Burnout is a very genuine problem which one is likely to face in case of too many loads. I am really glad we had such an innovative discussion on it.
In my case, I would personally limit the amount of roles which I take as per my efficiency to fulfill it. Its my personal belief that getting too many works can’t make you move fast, instead it can degrade the quality of our work. Also I would keep a check on myself time to time and would ensure that the roles I have taken is more joyful to me than a burden of task to accomplish. In case I have worked for a considerable amount of time, I would go for a break to refill myself so that I can give more the next time I am in.
See you in the next course

Nicely said... It's always a good thing to take a break, stop for a bit and enjoy this moment. I think a small walk outside could help cheer us up
@Heather225
I learned many things! but I will say the ones that seemed key to me
The first is that we must accept constructive opinions, that will help us to grow, also that we must give ourselves some time and remain calm and then be able to help others.
also that you have to know how to recognize passive aggressive attitudes and do something about it
@Crystaldancer
Very true.. Learning about passive agressive behaviors can support us in many ways..
@Heather225
what I learned:
I learned the signs and symptoms of a burnout and that its still okay if I do. I alos learned in such situations.
what you will do to stay healthy and avoid burnout?
-
Take self care breaks
-
Take daily breaks and clearly give boundaries
-
Remember why I do what I do
@Heather225
Tell us what you learned, and what you will do to stay healthy and avoid burnout!
I've learnt that it's ok to feel stressed, as long as I take necessary steps to avoid it increasing and messing up with my tasks at 7Cups. I also learned that, if I feel like I'm committed to too many roles I can contact a community manager and talk about it.
In order to stay healthy I will do regular check ups on myself, take self care breaks as needed (of course after informing my team members about it), will take a rest after sometime of listening and on top of it all will always remember the reason I'm doing this.
@Heather225
Please read it through and in the replies, tell us what you learned, and what you will do to stay healthy and avoid burnout!
I learned about the major signs of burnout and learned some ways to deal with it. To stay healthy and avoid burnout, I will take self-care break if needed and reflect on my work and goals. I will balance online and offline interactions, and will choose only those roles which seem enjoyable to me. I will maintain boundaries.
@Heather225
I learned that burnout is a serious problem! Overworking ourselves can not only hurt ourselves in the present, but overtime, we will start to weaken our capabilities. I need to make sure that I value my time and not overdo it. Life isn't about being the best of the best, it's living your life with value. Taking care of myself is very important and everyone has limits. Nobody is perfect and so, striving for perfection can often be harmful. Burnout is something a lot of people struggle with. What I should do to avoid burnout is give myself "me time" and set boundaries for myself. If I can recognize my limits I can respect them too.
@Nerdtastic01
I agree, self care is so important in making sure you can work to your best ability and be productive in working with others.
@Heather225
Tell us what you learned.
It is important to set expectations, boundaries and prevent burnouts by having short-term and long-term self-care plans. it is about focusing on a concrete system of a positive lifestyle.
What you will do to stay healthy and avoid burnout!
Recognising my limits. Scheduling chats. Creating a balance for personal and 7cups tasks. Reflection and Identifying stressors so that I can manage them effectively.
@courageousheart96
Definitely, recognising the things that stress you is a really good idea and also compartmentalizing things between your personal and Cups life will hopefully make it a lot easier and healthier so you can avoid burnout.
@courageousheart96
Wow recognizing my limits...😃... Wow, I loved that point😍
@courageousheart96
I rarely ever scheduled chats when I was at my most active as a listener—glad that you reminded me that this is a possibility because I really needed it!
