Course 2: Becoming a 7 Cups Leader - (Discussion #11) Avoiding Burnout
7 Cups is founded on a community of passionate volunteers who lovingly dedicate their time to providing support.
You may face what is called burnout during your journey. You may have already faced this in your real life. Burnout is very real and must be recognized. You can't help fuel someone else when your tank is empty, after all!
To address and learn about burnout, we have created a slidedeck on how to avoid burnout.
Activity: Please read it through and in the replies, tell us what you learned, and what you will do to stay healthy and avoid burnout!
Then, please reply to 3 of your peers in this thread with encouraging or supportive words!
After completing the course quiz, please proceed to this post!

@Heather225 Self care and self compassion rules!
@Heather225
Hello everyone,
#1: I learned that it is okay to have burnout & it is okay to take self care breaks if needed. I will set boundaries to make sure I do not face burnout. I can also take a few hours or days off to avoid burnout like the weekends.
@Josh3889
I hope these methods work for you, they sound really good!!!
@Heather225
What you learned, and what you will do to stay healthy and avoid burnout?
I have learnt that burnout often takes place over a longer period that we experience it by making a believe that work is meaningless, happens when there's a disconnect between what we are currently doing and what we truly want to be doing which might change for the worse later.
To be healthy and avoid burnout, we need to work with purpose, the smallest act of kindness can re-energize us and find meaning in your work by helping others. Exercise regularly to help alleviate stress and create a sense of well-being. Manage the stress by monitoring our thoughts and practicing positive thinking.
@iStarlight
right. Regular exercise will help reduce stress. I agree
@Heather225
1. What I learned
That everyone experiences some burnout symptoms from time to time, but should pay attention when they are becoming regular associations with our volunteering.
2. What I can do to stay healthy and avoid burnout.
take sufficient time off. Not take on many roles I cannot handle. And to balance my work and relaxation time.
@Immakindlistener22
I really hope your methods help you to avoid burnout!
i learnt that
- it is normal to feel burnt out

I will go on more walks than I currently do, set aside reading time, practise my yoga more and get back into swimming. These activities take me away from my sedentary lifestyle and allow me to detach from electronics and take proper time to contemplate my life, learn and reflect.
@Soul576
I love your self care activities, I will try some of that as well!! Thank you!

Burnout is when you have stretched yourself to thin yet continue to work or help, until you feel utter exhaustion and depletion. For me it's like pouring from an empty cup, and you keep. pouring but that cup remains empty. Burnout is something I personally have felt and it felt like I could do no more, stress, anxiety, overwhelmed and tired, yet still thinking I need to do etc. Burnout happens a lot when we give in too much and help or work too hard but we don't know our boundaries to say no. To avoid it, self care is needed and knowing when to say no, and letting you have you time, a walk, read a book, something you enjoy rather than keep working till you can't keep up anymore.
