Frequently Asked Questions - Group Support
by ASilentObserver
Last post
December 23rd
...See more Here are the questions that I came across during one-on-one, Group Chats, and Forum Posts. I hope you'll be able to find the answer to your query here! Please read the thread through carefully, and if your query isn't answered here, ask below or PM a member of the CM team. We will keep updating this thread to ensure frequently asked questions get answered and documented. 1. Why should I join Group Support? You should join Group Support for the following reasons- * To know you are not alone. Many others may be struggling and going through the same things as you. * To discuss your concerns, experiences, and emotions to get support. * To provide support to someone who might be going through challenging times. Join group chats to experience and find out more!  [https://www.7cups.com/connect/groupChatrooms.php] 2. Why am I unable to see any of the Group Support Chats? Probably you do not meet the criteria to unlock the group support chats yet. Please check this thread [https://www.7cups.com/forum/groupmod/CommunityManagersOffice_2008/NewCriteriatoAccessGroupChatsLiveNow_281153/] to learn about all the criteria you need to unlock the group chats. If you experience any challenges, you can send a direct message to @ASilentObserver [http://7cups.com/@ASilentObserver] 3. Why are group support chats badges locked? Group Support Chats are badge-locked to ensure a safe and compassionate environment for community members. We want to provide the best support to our members.  4. Where can I find the weekly schedule of the community mods? Here you can check the latest schedule [https://www.7cups.com/forum/SafetyKnowledgeat7Cups_181/CommunityModeratorWeeklySchedule_1640/CommunityModScheduleWeekofJan06_214569/]of the community mods. 5. Why did I receive a warning? Please check this post [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupportChatRooms_140/InformationUpdates_822/WhydidIgetthiswarning_44686/] to learn about it. Also, you can reach out to the moderator who warned you to discuss the reasons in a private message. To avoid warnings & mutes, please maintain supportive, inclusive, and respectful behavior in the group chats. 6. Why should I not discuss or share personal information in the group chats? We request you not share your personal or contact information as we do not allow offsite contacts. We value our member's privacy and safety. Also, it will be a violation of 7 Cups Group Chats and Community Guidelines [https://www.7cups.com/community-guidelines/]. Read more here! [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupport_168/ObsDesk_2008/ImportantupdateonGroupSupportRooms_215418/] 7. Why can I not discuss topics like Politics, Religion, Sex, etc.? We ask you not to engage in these topics as: * They are debating topics and due to differences in opinions, it could lead to unwanted conflicts. * These topics can be uncomfortable or triggering for some of the members. * We don't want to miss an opportunity to provide support to someone in need.  * So, to ensure a friendly and supportive environment and foster inclusive participation, it is better not to discuss these topics. * But, if you are interested in discussing current events and their impact on your well-being, you can request a Community moderator to open the Current Events Group chat for you. 8. What happens if I receive a warning? A warning in itself is nothing to worry about. It does not affect your account and will expire in 6 hours. If, however, you continue to receive warnings you may be muted. You would need to be warned 3 times to receive a mute. A mute lasts for 24 hours from the time of the mute. 6 hours without a warning will clear the slate for you. 9. What happens if I get muted? The first or second mute will last for 24 hours. After this time, you will be able to use the group chats again as usual.  10. Someone is upsetting me. What should I do? If someone is being hurtful towards you, click mute/report in their message. You can personally mute them in this way, which means you will not be able to see anything they type. Additionally, you can file a report on the person if their behavior violates Community Guidelines. [https://www.7cups.com/community-guidelines/Safety-Reporting-c97e53621f924398b1db1088c9def307] 11. There is a problem in the group chat. How can I contact a moderator? There are two ways you can get help: * Check in another group chat for a moderator or community moderator. * Submit an emergency help request [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf6mgwzVCA-TTDzahtCH7mXdmxE5jTakstcQDWoQ_nXk2CfdA/viewform]. The emergency form is also located in the group chat rules.  12. Some members have badges beside their names. What do these mean and how can I earn one? The badges are to recognize contributions to group support. You can earn the badges by being kind and supportive in the group chat. Learn more here. [http://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupportChatRooms_140/InformationUpdates_822/ShinyNewMemberBadges_36271/1/] 13. Where can I find out what discussions and support sessions are happening? * Take a look at the community events calendar [https://tockify.com/7cups/agenda] to find out what's on. * Alternatively, you can click on "Join live guided discussions" from the side list to see what is on right now. * You can check the community page [https://www.7cups.com/community/] to find the active discussions going on in the group chats.   14. What can moderators do? Learn about what moderators [http://www.7cups.com/forum/Welcome_27/GroupSupportChat_195/GroupSupportModeratorRole_33260/] can and cannot do in this forum post. 15. Can I leave a review for a moderator or listener in Group Support? Yes! You can leave reviews for moderators, listeners, and room supporters in the Group Support Review form. [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScmfpQqScgcFxOSHveQfbP52m-XNu-DBC6oK7ieTHrGQ4hJ3w/viewform] This can be found in the group chat rules. We use the information you leave here for quality control purposes and to pass on feedback anonymously to moderators.  Or, you can simply leave a shout-out in this thread: Group Support Champions!  [https://www.7cups.com/forum/groupmod/CommunityManagersOffice_2008/IntroducingGroupSupportChampions_326199/] 16. Who can see the reports I file? All reports now need to be submitted through the Helpdesk page [https://www.7cups.com/community-guidelines/Safety-Reporting-c97e53621f924398b1db1088c9def307]. Learn more about the process here! Only the team can see the reports to review and process them as per standard protocols and guidelines.  17. How is a Community Moderator different from a volunteer moderator? Community Moderators are assigned specific time blocks while volunteer moderators participate whenever they like! Secondly, they are present to extend the support to the community leaders and community as per the needs. 18.  How can I access a doorkeeper to promote a group chat? To access the doorkeeper, there are two ways:  * You can become a group chat leader like a Room supporter, or Chatroom moderator [https://www.7cups.com/listener/training/leadership/fdc3639b1dcb416bb0dc1033dcb0831b/], and as the role privileges you get the doorkeeper privileges too.  * You can apply for a doorkeeper role through this form [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScm9ZtncP_uT2Bjl6M1t1z2jcofHdSFgGYTw-2VqCiIqBQR8A/viewform]. To be a doorkeeper, you need to host at least 5 sessions per month. Out of two, one should be in a pop-up group chat.   20) What is Sharing Circle? Sharing Circle is an hourly session where members can join a queue to get 7 minutes to share anything that’s on their minds. While that member is sharing, the rest of the group chat can send short supportive comments, but not ask questions or interrupt. If you want to know more, you can check out this post here: https://tinyurl.com/Sharing-Circles   21) Why can't people join along the Sharing Circle queue? We do not allow that because of the following potential reasons:  - The host might miss someone to include in the queue if they are busy listening and supporting the sharer.  - If the host is a community mod, then it will be hard for them to maintain a consistent queue without missing anyone as they moderate other group chats too.  - If all who are interested in joining the queue, keep typing * during a share, the sharing will get disrupted and the sharer might get distracted from the share as they will feel that no one is listening to them.  So to maintain fairness and consistency for all sharers and everyone,  we request all to be patient during the ongoing share and after the share is completed, the queue can be re-opened to invite all to join.  22) Why can't we speak other languages in group chats?  We are a global community, and group chats are inclusive spaces. As all of us are from different regions, our native language is different too. So, interacting in that language might be easier and comforting for us but others who may not know that language, will feel excluded in the group chats and may not be able to have supportive or inclusive chats with you and others.  So, to avoid such situations, we request and encourage all to use English as it is a common language to bridge our communication gap and allow us to have inclusive chats and conversations. 23) How can I apply for Group Support leadership roles?  Please check the Become a Leader - Member Group Support [https://www.7cups.com/listener/training/leadership/fdc3639b1dcb416bb0dc1033dcb0831b/] page to learn more about all roles, their criteria, and application form links.  24) Why is the room supporter badge not visible for Member Room Supporters?  As member account is primarily focused on getting personal support, while the room supporter role is focused on providing support and fostering supportive and inclusive conversation in the group chats. So to create a balance between both purposes where a member can get personal support as and when they can as well as able to perform room supporter’s responsibilities, we do not show the badge on member accounts. It allows members to switch to seek personal support anytime.  25) Can as a listener we can share our personal experiences?  I would say listeners can take part but remember your role is also to maintain boundaries and encourage members to share more. Ask open questions to the group to foster deep conversations with members. If you feel to share more in order to get personal support, we encourage you to switch to your member accounts to do that.  -------------------------   Some resources for you to check! - * A note on triggers in Group Support [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupport_168/InformationUpdates_822/ANoteonTriggersinGroupSupport_41379/1/] * What can I expect from a moderator? Always Here Project Launch
by Kieran000
Last post
December 11th
...See more Hello everyone! I hope that you all are doing well. We’re excited to announce the rebranded launch of the Always Here - Support Room 24/7 Project originally launched in 2021 and received positive feedback.  Background and Reasoning Unfortunately, efforts to revive the project in 2022 were not as successful as hoped. We are trying again in a rebranded way with assurance that people get a consistent and reliable experience. As it’s been a couple of years, most of the previous hosts and some leaders are no longer active so we are starting fresh but I will tag previous hosts / leaders just in case they’re willing and interested to join us again with helping out in SR! Having spent a lot of time in the group chat rooms, it’s terrible to see people being ignored due to the sheer volume of messages that sometimes occur, or being faced with complete emptiness as they enter the room.  We can help shift this issue, which by all means is no one’s fault but instead a product of various different factors.  Project Overview and Host Requirements  Members and listeners, teens and adults, can sign up to provide a half-hour or an hour per week (or more) of a listening ear for those in the Support Room 24/7. There’s no script, just natural responses and presence, supportive resources for hosts will be found within the host Sheets dashboard which will be shared within PMs after successfully applying.    On-spot hosting is available too. When you spend at least 30 minutes in SR you can be rewarded and receive recognition for your hard work through peer feedback. Just contact me (@Kieran000) to join the team if you can’t stick to fixed weekly times. Requirements: To ensure a high quality of support is provided, members must meet the following requirements: * A minimum of 200 group chats and 600 compassion hearts (Helping Hand or Wise One Badge)  Please note: 1 group chat is equivalent to 25 messages sent in a member group support room. [https://www.7cups.com/connect/groupChatrooms.php] * Completion of the Compassion Course [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScMEXP6lopKu4ZJAtmctmwk0vq9Fp7T892gWJteqmQoIJa_Dg/viewform](Compassion Hero Badge)  Separately, listeners must meet the following requirements in order to host:  * Verified Listener  [https://www.7cups.com/forum/listenerjourney/ListenerVerificationProject_1839/NewAdditionalCriteriaToBecomeVerifiedListenerGoingLive_230276/] * A minimum of 200 group support chats * 5 Star Listener Rating  Please note: You may see listeners or members in our team with lower experience than some parts of the requirement criteria, this is because they’ve shown to provide an excellent quality of support in the room and have been recruited by a project leader. If you don’t meet the requirements above, but feel you’re a high quality listener, don’t hesitate to reach out to me and we might be able to get you onboard.  You will be awarded 50 cheers per half-hour that you host and the quota is one session per week to remain active on the team.  There are 30 minute session opportunities available, just signify this when answering the question on the form. Sign Up Please use this form [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeEgSrzc-cS4wJxnfLzjT9FcFGmMGL6R1p_Eh8Uv9a6wA4Kjw/viewform] to sign up to become a host and help us improve the support available to members of our community within the Support Room 24/7.  Once applied, you will be contacted by a project leader who will provide further information and be your point of contact for anything relating to the role unless encouraged otherwise! If you don’t hear anything within 4 days of applying, please do send me a message. Thank you all very much for reading, and helping out in the rooms, also for getting through your own struggles that may still be ongoing. Let’s make the Support Room 24/7 a comfortable place for everyone to seek quality support. Looking forward to any applications.  Also! If you are interested in becoming a project agent (a listener who helps with maintaining project continuity and management) for this, please do send me (Kieran000 [http://7cups.com/@Kieran000]) a message expressing your interest. Group Support Roles Update!
by ASilentObserver
Last post
August 21st, 2023
...See more Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing well! Today, I wanted to talk to you about a couple of updates we have for our group support roles in terms of training. We've also created a new moderator guide to help moderators navigate their responsibilities effectively. Update I) Group Support roles: Addition of Training Guides Firstly, let's discuss the introduction of additional training in group roles. We understand that as our community grows, it becomes crucial to ensure that everyone is on the same page when it comes to their roles and responsibilities. By implementing specific training guide completion, we aim to provide a better understanding of the topic. Completion of training guides will be a mandatory process for all applicants who wish to take up a group role. We want to equip our group leaders with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in their roles and contribute positively to our community. The information is now available in both the room supporter and moderator guides. Update II) New Moderator Guide Now, let's move on to the new moderator guide. This guide is updated to assist our moderators in effectively carrying out their responsibilities. Moderators play a crucial role in maintaining the harmony and integrity of our community, and we believe that providing them with a clear set of guidelines will enhance their effectiveness. We believe that these updates will not only streamline our group roles but also foster a stronger sense of community and collaboration. We are committed to continuous improvement and growth. Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication. If you all have any suggestions or ideas to strengthen and support our leaders better, please do share them with us. ------------------------- Apply for Room Supporter here [http://7cups.com/forum/groupmod/ApplicationStation_2417/RoomSupporterUpdatedRequirementsandApplication_247786/] Apply for chatroom moderator here! What is the "Community Leader" Badge?
by Heather225
Last post
June 2nd, 2023
...See more Hi, everyone! If you’ve spent time in the rooms, you’ve likely seen some users with a Community Leader role listed under their names. A lot of you have asked what criteria are tied to this. We created the CL badge to act as an umbrella for all group chat badges that used to be visible in the rooms. Fewer badges displaying also reduces the loading rate of a message sent by a user with, for example, 2 or more badges appearing in the room. The CL badge is auto-awarded. Here is the document listing all roles that fall under it. [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1B1mgSyCwIYJzeli0bqK2QTB3mRATiBu3DkaYz6lo6h4/] The idea of manual badging has been suggested. However, with all the other significant tech changes in the pipeline, we’re not at a point to consider it. Again, the CL role was invented to cover the groups domain in terms of relevancy, since it’s exclusive to supporting rooms. Sorry, it took us a bit to get to clarifying this. We hope this clears up all confusion!

When members act young. In rooms it does not always mean they are under 18
by Heartsandrosesandpaws

...See more There have been a trend in group rooms that People jump to conclusions that people that act that they are under 18. It’s not fair to judge people who act young so fast since there are valid reasons why they act younger than are. some. Of reasons are 1 They disabilities or disorders that make them act younger that they are. 2 Some of topics sounds. Younger than what should be the 18+ side. 3 Some members might altars that are younger than 18 or they aged regress. Being accused of being under 18 only maters worse when you over 18. It can make members feel unsafe , judged not wanted and makes them feel uncomfortable. The next obvious question is what can do instead of accusing some one of being under 18? 1 tell one’s self there are many other reasons why someone would act young? 2 be understanding and supportive of the member. 3. Let things play out. 4 only ask if they are under 18 if they clear sign that they are under 18. I hope this will help people Learn how to deal with this better in the rooms. @ASilentObserver [https://www.7cups.com/@ASilentObserver] @ASilentBunny [https://www.7cups.com/@ASilentBunny] @Lou73 [https://www.7cups.com/@Lou73] @Help127 [https://www.7cups.com/@Help127]
