...Couldn't help but notice that freedom of speech is not one of the topics for the planned discussion.
I like the idea of a "safer Internet" to some extent but as always, there are questions...
- safer for whom, exactly?
- What must be given up to achieve this state of safety? Who would be required to give up XYZ? Trade-offs are a thing.
- How would the climate of safety be consistently enforced? (To be blunt, is that even possible across multiple nations, time zones, etc.)

Sorry for the super wonky formatting on the previous post. I couldn't get the system to cooperate with me. Perhaps this platform does not approve of my message lol.
@PatienceImpatiens It does not, because your message is unsafe & could be triggering!...but seriously, that's cool. I do realize that in a community/on a website like this one, other values are just as important--or may surpass--freedom of expression. When there are a lot of people with mental & emotional issues in one place, obviously there has to be some kind of code of conduct in order for the site/community to function at all, besides the welfare of the members themselves. A balance has to be maintained, & just where that balance is is not always obvious or clear.
@slowdecline48
lol, true enough.
Yes, I would agree that in a place where people are gathered, most who are struggling, that the standards of care have to be somewhat more----- I don't know, precise, caring, I'm not sure what the word is I'm looking for.
On the other hand, giving people a place or a space where they are free to express themselves/ourselves is a value of mine.
But that has turned out wrong for so many who try, bravely to venture into difficult spots, and then make honest reports, or they return maimed or dead.
(References for my mentions of Freedom of Speech --- warming, some of these details may be triggering to some as they reference abuse and harm and even death to people seeking to report on conditions in different countries): Khashogghi (the journalist who was cut into pieces after entering an Embassy, he thought to get a Visa) or the dude (Otto Frederick Warmbier (December 12, 1994 – June 19, 2017) was an American college student who was imprisoned in North Korea in 2016 on a charge of subversion. In June 2017, he was released by North Korea in a vegetative state, and died soon after his parents requested his feeding tube be removed), who was returned from North Korea brain dead and who died shortly thereafter, Navalny who is currently imprisoned in some remote prison) These are just a few examples. I continue to wear a bracelet for someone whose parents call for attention to be drawn regularly for him in the daily paper. Worldwide, at least 65 journalists have disappeared since 2005, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

Hi, Regarding Freedom of Speech, I'm up for a discussion of this anytime.
Internationally, there is: World Press Freedom Day, which is May 3
https://www.un.org/en/observances/press-freedom-day
Also, there's NONPARTISAN CELEBRATION OF FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND OF THE PRESS, but that's not international, it's based in USA.
