Changes to Group Chat Structure to Foster Community
by ASilentObserver
Last post
October 29th
...See more Hi everyone, We have recently noticed a decline in support and participation in our group chats. While we appreciate everyone's contributions, we have found that the low activity level in different group chats has discouraged many members from engaging in conversations. Many enter the quieter chats and when they see it quiet, they tend to leave which is doing no good to offer them much-needed support.  To ensure that our group chats remain vibrant and inclusive support spaces for everyone, we are making a few adjustments: * Group Chats’ Pop-up Status: The following group chats will temporarily return to pop-up status. This means these group chats will be open during scheduled discussions or as per your request. To request these chats to open, these requirements need to be fulfilled:  * At least 3-5 participants are willing to participate in a specific group chat.  * Or, they can become room support or discussion leaders for specific group chats and host at least 2 weekly sessions.  * If you meet either of the requirements, you can inform a community moderator on shift to help you open a group chat for a specific period (let’s say 60 minutes). After completion of discussion, the room will be closed.    * Re-evaluation Period: We will monitor participation and reassess the situation every month.  * The group chats return to popup chats:  * Relationship Support * LGBTQ Support * Listener Community Room Also, we updated the rotation group chat schedule after assessing the participation & support levels. The new rotational schedule is as follows: * Monday & Tuesday: Loneliness Support * Wednesday: Anxiety Support * Thursday & Friday: Relationship Support * Saturday & Sunday: Trauma Support We hope this change will encourage more active support and engagement and make it easier for everyone to stay connected. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.  Thank you.   @heather225

...See more Hello teens, Welcome to the Playground!  We are introducing a new group chat called: The Playground to fuel and support the games and lighthearted activities demand. If you are also looking for a fun escape filled with laughter and friendly competition then, this is your one-stop space for all things wordplay and games. We have everything from classic alphabet games and mind-bending trivia to hilarious Mad Libs and word scrambles.  Also if you are new to any game, we are all about creating a welcoming space where everyone can learn, play, and have a blast together. The rules of participation are simple:  * Anyone can participate and ensure to be nice, and respectful to all.  * Observe before play. If you are new to a game, ensure to observe how others are playing and keep your questions to be asked at the end of the session.  * Keep the competition healthy and in the team/ game spirit.  * Be yourself, have fun, and enjoy. A big shout-out and thank you to @CommunityModIris for the feedback and idea of bringing this chat together.  What are you waiting for?  Come say hi in our playground!

Introducing 7 Cups Exploration Garden
by ASilentObserver

...See more It has been three years since we started the Sharing Circle and I appreciate you all for making it an empowering session where everyone shares and supports each other. We received a lot of feedback and we did multiple iterations to strengthen and improve the session. We have seen how the Sharing Circle has helped many to connect with others, share their thoughts and feelings, and find support in challenging times. A huge shout-out to all members, listeners, hosts, and leaders for their compassionate efforts and support. One area of the feedback has been that we allow questions to be asked during the share. Given the unique structure of the Sharing Circle, it was difficult to integrate that feedback into the session. But, we value our members’ feedback and are determined to provide a better support experience for them. We are introducing a new group chat initiative - Exploration Garden Session. We recognize that this session will help sharers to further explore their feelings and experiences with the help of questions. It will also foster deeper connections among participants of the session. The most important characteristic of the Exploration Garden is the purpose behind it. We will encourage participants to support questions and reflections to support sharers more. Members shared that asking questions during share may help them better understand themselves, and get better clarity in their thoughts and feelings. These chats are dedicated to the giving and receiving of support and exploration in a turn-based setting where each participant has the chance to share and explore their thoughts and emotions. But it won’t be a substitute for Sharing Circle. Both Sharing Circle and Exploration Garden have their unique vision and structure to support our members. They both will be complementary to each other. Who can participate? Only members can enter the queue. Listeners are encouraged to join and support shares. Your presence and support will encourage and empower them. Please note that access to the Exploration Garden chat is currently being trialed so will not be available to all users. We will scale up access with time and encourage everyone who gets to try this new chat to send us feedback. When will these sessions happen? These sessions will happen every day in Exploration Garden Group Chat from 12.00 pm- 11.00 pm How can I get involved? We will be looking for help to facilitate Exploration Garden Sessions. If you are interested in hosting them, you can reach out to @SoulfullyAButterfly or @ASilentObserver for more information. Please keep in mind that this is new, so it's likely that it will evolve as we experience and learn from all of you. We look forward to having you. Come and explore with us!!

Lets see what we did together in the last week. * Firstly, as per our continuous discussions during weekly group support chats and suggestions, excited to share that we restarting mix n match discussions. Any room supporter, chat room moderator, the global moderator can sign up and host these discussions as per their convenience. It will allow us to participate in different topic discussions and give more coverage to our support needs. To learn more about this, click this link –https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SeU1jmH7rR37mQKyFwGu6tIR72kCHrmLgs08mhNNVKI/edit#gid=1024667971 If you are a room supporter, chat room moderator or global mod and interested to host some discussions, you can check and sign up this sheet. * Secondly, as per your continuous suggestions on the badge lock criteria that how you are not feeling comfortable with member oath task, we removed it from the requirement to join group support rooms. The current requirement to join rooms are as follows – * * If you are a member, you will need only – * Chief Chat and Honest Voice badges to join Support Room and Member Community Room * Chief Chat, Honest Voice and Strong bond 1 badges to join topic rooms like Anxiety Support, Depression Support, etc. * If you are a listener, you will need only – * Loyal Friend, First Chat and Listener Oath badges to join Support Room and Member Community Room. * Loyal Friend, First Chat, Open Door and Listener Oath badges to join topic rooms like Anxiety Support, Depression Support, etc. * To learn what tasks you need to do to get these badges, read this post here https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupModZone_168/ObsDesk_2008/AnnouncementEasytoJoinGroupSupportRoomsNOW_215387/1/#2170045 * Also, if you have feedback on the recent changes in the group support, share your thoughts here [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdxBXE8fQ80-TJuTeKaPCV7K22e9Tieo5W6cDYyWl3wX4GNLg/viewform]! * Thirdly, as per earlier discussions and suggestions, if any user having suicidal or self-harm thoughts, they will be muted followed by one reminder and sharing of relevant resources to get support on. Only Community Moderators will be issuing instant mute followed by a reminder for now. While our other chat room moderators keep issuing verbal reminders and then 3 system warnings (Refuse the Crisis Resources) to mute them. * Fourth, apart from the major guidelines mentioned in the chat room rules and guidelines, there are a few other things which we need to keep in mind – * Do not use CAPS. The reason behind it is it feels like yelling and as many members experiencing different struggles, it can be triggering and uncomforting for them. So, it is asked to use small caps while you type your message in the group support rooms to chat with others. Help us build a supportive, comforting and inclusive chat rooms for each other. * Do not give advice even if you are an expert in your field. As we strictly comply with the code of conduct in our respective professions. We need to respect and follow the site guidelines. Other improvement plans are in-progress. Frequently Asked Questions - Group Support
by ASilentObserver
Last post
April 24th
...See more Here are the questions that I came across during one-on-one, Group Chats, and Forum Posts. I hope you'll be able to find the answer to your query here! Please read the thread through carefully, and if your query isn't answered here, ask below or PM a member of the CM team. We will keep updating this thread to ensure frequently asked questions get answered and documented. 1. Why should I join Group Support? You should join Group Support for the following reasons- * To know you are not alone. Many others may be struggling and going through the same things as you. * To discuss your concerns, experiences, and emotions to get support. * To provide support to someone who might be going through challenging times. Join group chats to experience and find out more!  [https://www.7cups.com/connect/groupChatrooms.php] 2. Why am I unable to see any of the Group Support Chats? Probably you do not meet the criteria to unlock the group support chats yet. Please check this thread [https://www.7cups.com/forum/groupmod/CommunityManagersOffice_2008/NewCriteriatoAccessGroupChatsLiveNow_281153/] to learn about all the criteria you need to unlock the group chats. If you experience any challenges, you can send a direct message to @ASilentObserver [http://7cups.com/@ASilentObserver] 3. Why are group support chats badges locked? Group Support Chats are badge-locked to ensure a safe and compassionate environment for community members. We want to provide the best support to our members.  4. Where can I find the weekly schedule of the community mods? Here you can check the latest schedule [https://www.7cups.com/forum/SafetyKnowledgeat7Cups_181/CommunityModeratorWeeklySchedule_1640/CommunityModScheduleWeekofJan06_214569/]of the community mods. 5. Why did I receive a warning? Please check this post [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupportChatRooms_140/InformationUpdates_822/WhydidIgetthiswarning_44686/] to learn about it. Also, you can reach out to the moderator who warned you to discuss the reasons in a private message. To avoid warnings & mutes, please maintain supportive, inclusive, and respectful behavior in the group chats. 6. Why should I not discuss or share personal information in the group chats? We request you not share your personal or contact information as we do not allow offsite contacts. We value our member's privacy and safety. Also, it will be a violation of 7 Cups Group Chats and Community Guidelines [https://www.7cups.com/community-guidelines/]. Read more here! [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupport_168/ObsDesk_2008/ImportantupdateonGroupSupportRooms_215418/] 7. Why can I not discuss topics like Politics, Religion, Sex, etc.? We ask you not to engage in these topics as: * They are debating topics and due to differences in opinions, it could lead to unwanted conflicts. * These topics can be uncomfortable or triggering for some of the members. * We don't want to miss an opportunity to provide support to someone in need.  * So, to ensure a friendly and supportive environment and foster inclusive participation, it is better not to discuss these topics. * But, if you are interested in discussing current events and their impact on your well-being, you can request a Community moderator to open the Current Events Group chat for you. 8. What happens if I receive a warning? A warning in itself is nothing to worry about. It does not affect your account and will expire in 6 hours. If, however, you continue to receive warnings you may be muted. You would need to be warned 3 times to receive a mute. A mute lasts for 24 hours from the time of the mute. 6 hours without a warning will clear the slate for you. 9. What happens if I get muted? The first or second mute will last for 24 hours. After this time, you will be able to use the group chats again as usual.  10. Someone is upsetting me. What should I do? If someone is being hurtful towards you, click mute/report in their message. You can personally mute them in this way, which means you will not be able to see anything they type. Additionally, you can file a report on the person if their behavior violates Community Guidelines. [https://www.7cups.com/community-guidelines/Safety-Reporting-c97e53621f924398b1db1088c9def307] 11. There is a problem in the group chat. How can I contact a moderator? There are two ways you can get help: * Check in another group chat for a moderator or community moderator. * Submit an emergency help request [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf6mgwzVCA-TTDzahtCH7mXdmxE5jTakstcQDWoQ_nXk2CfdA/viewform]. The emergency form is also located in the group chat rules.  12. Some members have badges beside their names. What do these mean and how can I earn one? The badges are to recognize contributions to group support. You can earn the badges by being kind and supportive in the group chat. Learn more here. [http://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupportChatRooms_140/InformationUpdates_822/ShinyNewMemberBadges_36271/1/] 13. Where can I find out what discussions and support sessions are happening? * Take a look at the community events calendar [https://tockify.com/7cups/agenda] to find out what's on. * Alternatively, you can click on "Join live guided discussions" from the side list to see what is on right now. * You can check the community page [https://www.7cups.com/community/] to find the active discussions going on in the group chats.   14. What can moderators do? Learn about what moderators [http://www.7cups.com/forum/Welcome_27/GroupSupportChat_195/GroupSupportModeratorRole_33260/] can and cannot do in this forum post. 15. Can I leave a review for a moderator or listener in Group Support? Yes! You can leave reviews for moderators, listeners, and room supporters in the Group Support Review form. [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScmfpQqScgcFxOSHveQfbP52m-XNu-DBC6oK7ieTHrGQ4hJ3w/viewform] This can be found in the group chat rules. We use the information you leave here for quality control purposes and to pass on feedback anonymously to moderators.  Or, you can simply leave a shout-out in this thread: Group Support Champions!  [https://www.7cups.com/forum/groupmod/CommunityManagersOffice_2008/IntroducingGroupSupportChampions_326199/] 16. Who can see the reports I file? All reports now need to be submitted through the Helpdesk page [https://www.7cups.com/community-guidelines/Safety-Reporting-c97e53621f924398b1db1088c9def307]. Learn more about the process here! Only the team can see the reports to review and process them as per standard protocols and guidelines.  17. How is a Community Moderator different from a volunteer moderator? Community Moderators are assigned specific time blocks while volunteer moderators participate whenever they like! Secondly, they are present to extend the support to the community leaders and community as per the needs. 18.  How can I access a doorkeeper to promote a group chat? To access the doorkeeper, there are two ways:  * You can become a group chat leader like a Room supporter, or Chatroom moderator [https://www.7cups.com/listener/training/leadership/fdc3639b1dcb416bb0dc1033dcb0831b/], and as the role privileges you get the doorkeeper privileges too.  * You can apply for a doorkeeper role through this form [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScm9ZtncP_uT2Bjl6M1t1z2jcofHdSFgGYTw-2VqCiIqBQR8A/viewform]. To be a doorkeeper, you need to host at least 5 sessions per month. Out of two, one should be in a pop-up group chat.   20) What is Sharing Circle? Sharing Circle is an hourly session where members can join a queue to get 7 minutes to share anything that’s on their minds. While that member is sharing, the rest of the group chat can send short supportive comments, but not ask questions or interrupt. If you want to know more, you can check out this post here: https://tinyurl.com/Sharing-Circles   21) Why can't people join along the Sharing Circle queue? We do not allow that because of the following potential reasons:  - The host might miss someone to include in the queue if they are busy listening and supporting the sharer.  - If the host is a community mod, then it will be hard for them to maintain a consistent queue without missing anyone as they moderate other group chats too.  - If all who are interested in joining the queue, keep typing * during a share, the sharing will get disrupted and the sharer might get distracted from the share as they will feel that no one is listening to them.  So to maintain fairness and consistency for all sharers and everyone,  we request all to be patient during the ongoing share and after the share is completed, the queue can be re-opened to invite all to join.  22) Why can't we speak other languages in group chats?  We are a global community, and group chats are inclusive spaces. As all of us are from different regions, our native language is different too. So, interacting in that language might be easier and comforting for us but others who may not know that language, will feel excluded in the group chats and may not be able to have supportive or inclusive chats with you and others.  So, to avoid such situations, we request and encourage all to use English as it is a common language to bridge our communication gap and allow us to have inclusive chats and conversations. 23) How can I apply for Group Support leadership roles?  Please check the Become a Leader - Member Group Support [https://www.7cups.com/listener/training/leadership/fdc3639b1dcb416bb0dc1033dcb0831b/] page to learn more about all roles, their criteria, and application form links.  24) Why is the room supporter badge not visible for Member Room Supporters?  As member account is primarily focused on getting personal support, while the room supporter role is focused on providing support and fostering supportive and inclusive conversation in the group chats. So to create a balance between both purposes where a member can get personal support as and when they can as well as able to perform room supporter’s responsibilities, we do not show the badge on member accounts. It allows members to switch to seek personal support anytime.  25) Can as a listener we can share our personal experiences?  I would say listeners can take part but remember your role is also to maintain boundaries and encourage members to share more. Ask open questions to the group to foster deep conversations with members. If you feel to share more in order to get personal support, we encourage you to switch to your member accounts to do that.  -------------------------   Some resources for you to check! - * A note on triggers in Group Support [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupport_168/InformationUpdates_822/ANoteonTriggersinGroupSupport_41379/1/] * What can I expect from a moderator? ...See more Hello and welcome to the revival of pop-up discussions In 2020, we received a suggestion from a teen member to revive pop-up discussions [https://www.7cups.com/forum/groupmod/PopUpGroupDiscussions_2110/Popupdiscussionsareback_226825/] and @Hope worked a lot on this front to bring it back. It was loved by everyone who hosted or attended these discussions. Thank you Hope for all your foundational work and for empowering us.  Now we are in 2024, and we introducing Pop-up Discussions 3.0 with some new changes to make it more inclusive, accessible, and more sessions to participate in. I invite you all to host or participate in these sessions. Let’s get started!  What is a pop-up discussion? It is a short discussion on lighthearted topics. It lasts 15 -45 minutes each. The primary goal is to have more focused opportunities to discuss and share in an inclusive space for everyone to come together and participate.  Why should you host pop-ups? They are super fun and convenient. You can host one without any planning and you can do anytime and as many as you like to based on your availability. Do you have 15 minutes? Feel free to start one.  It can be a good way to get to know other members in the group chats and encourage/ empower others to open up and share their thoughts.  Also, do you know? There is a special “Pop-up Ninja” badge. You can earn it by hosting 3 discussions in a week.  Who can host one?  Both Listeners and Members.  How can you host one? You can choose a script from the following available scripts and host the discussion in the appropriate room * Member Side Scripts [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jRiJQIqfXYtw8biZ13_6VNepYS09hxMCtg8yWEqz8Ro/edit#] * Listener Scripts [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hL9B9-hZJGvn8agsQzLq1vkUtH1x5ndmZo3c1oIBOcM/edit] Where can you host?  Adult * Group Chat for member pop-up discussion - Special events,  Positivity Corner * Group Chat for listener pop-up discussion - Listener Community Chat Teen * Group Chat for Member pop-up discussion - Teen Community Room, Special events  * Group Chat for Listener pop-up discussion - Teen Hangout, Teen Listeners Please note:  * Special events, Positivity Corner, and Teen Hangout are pop-up group chats that need to be opened by someone who has the special privilege to open/ close group chats.  * They are known as Doorkeepers. You can find one in the listener support chats or contact a moderator/ community moderator on shift.  Helpful tips to keep in mind:  * Ensure to set a discussion banner with “your name” and must have “Pop-up” in the banner. If you are unable to set a banner, you can take the help of anyone including community moderators to set a discussion banner for you * When you require assistance such as a room opening or setting up a banner, please reach out to the community moderator on duty with a kind and polite message. Please understand that they may be managing multiple rooms simultaneously. Allow them a few moments to acknowledge and respond to your request. * All pop-up discussions can be 15, 30, or 45 minutes based on your availability to host one.  * Fill out this short form to log the discussion you hosted. Bookmark the form  [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdsQPBHJOkVsFXaElmOiXA-WY7H3cabI9rfXgtcVMkh5VNF8w/viewform] * Ensure to welcome all participants and repeat questions when a few more people join in. So all can participate.  * Do not rush into asking all questions. Host it at a comfortable pace where all participants can share.  * Use active listening skills to empathize, reflect, and validate with the participants. If you host pop-up discussions, please fill out this form so you can get a badge and cheers (if eligible) - Open the Form!  [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdsQPBHJOkVsFXaElmOiXA-WY7H3cabI9rfXgtcVMkh5VNF8w/viewform] Let’s get started and have some good fun together!  @Heather225 @Suryansh @EmmaE @Hopedreamlove @amy
Introducing: Group Support Champions 💪🙌✨

...See more Hello everyone, If you’ve spent time in the group chats, you’re bound to see our Group Support leaders doing great work (both listener and member group chats) – the RS keeping things organized, the mods overseeing chats and answering questions, and everyone else jumping in to support and guide our community. But sometimes, amidst the daily hustle, these efforts might go unnoticed. We’ve done some thinking and come up with an initiative to celebrate our group leaders entitled Group Support Champions!  This initiative will consist of two parts: Part 1: A Spotlight on Appreciation We're proposing a dedicated thread in the Group Support Community where we can all share quick shout-outs for leaders who go above and beyond. Did an RS answer your question with exceptional detail? Did a Mod handle a tricky situation with grace? Give them a shout-out in the thread and tag them for well-deserved recognition.   Here's how it works: * Spot a leader doing something awesome? Head over to the Group Support Champions thread. * Give them a shout-out! Tag them in your post and share what they did well. * Everyone else, join in! Like and comment on the post to show your appreciation. This simple act can go a long way in making our group support leaders feel seen and recognized for the hard work and efforts they put in to keep chats safe and supportive. Part 2: Highlight Individual Achievements Let's not stop there! We can also use the Group Support Champions thread to celebrate individual accomplishments and nominations. To streamline this, here is a short form that you can share [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdICoK8JuDYDxJ26Pe4G022Wrw1pUZtbdP2CXLRBP5b684-3A/viewform]: * Personal milestones (crushing a goal, mastering a skill, etc.) * Individual achievements (going the extra mile, supporting someone and they felt better, etc.) * Teamwork & collaboration (shout-outs to fellow leaders!) * Nominations (recognize someone who deserves special recognition Who can be appreciated?  Anyone! From a group leader like Peer Support, Listener chatroom supporter, room supporter, chatroom mentor, moderator, chat supporter, discussion leader or hosts, or a member/listener who supported or helped to make you or anyone feel better.  How often can we post?  As often as you notice good work, you can post it. Please ensure to keep it genuine and heartfelt appreciation based on your experiences. We believe this two-pronged approach will have a positive impact on our group chats and community and help build a culture of appreciation and recognition for our group support leaders. Your contributions will help strengthen this initiative and keep it going for a long time to come. Get started and spread some love for our group support champions!  @suryansh, @emmae @hopedreamlove @jenna @amy @lou73
Announcement: Practice Active Listening Skills in the Chatrooms

...See more Recently, we received some feedback from the community about their participation experiences in the group support chat rooms. Positive feedback: We received feedback from many listeners who are/ were active participants in the group support chat rooms like Sharing Circle. They learned a lot about listening and practicing it. And it helped them to have better support conversations with members in 1-1 Support Chats as well as made improvements in the real-life conversations with their friends, colleagues, peers, and family as well. We also received a recommendation if we can integrate Group Support Chat Participation as a compulsory part of the Listener Training. Constructive feedback: We also received feedback from some listeners about how they struggled with social anxiety and that made it hard for them to participate in the group support chat rooms. Even though they are interested, they find it difficult to have conversations in a group setting. Considering the positive feedback and suggestions from the listeners and the concern, we are starting it as a trial and experimental phase. We will be gathering insights through this trial so we will be able to determine how helpful it is, what challenges we might be facing, what we can do to address those challenges, etc. How would the trial work? The idea is to pilot it with a small group of listeners. As we learned some listeners probably are experiencing social anxiety and avoid group interactions. They can start by simply observing first and then when they feel comfortable, can participate. No pressure to participate and talk. * We would be inviting all the listeners to help us trial it through the Expression of Interest form. (Open the form here [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf4W1Qb_KCbCc8ThetxcZSworQzGO9NZ2z7EJeRiMigZPz-1Q/viewform]) * All listeners who take part will receive a badge and 1000 cheers points. At the successful completion of the trial, one will receive a certificate of participation in the trial. * For starters, one can spend at least one hour per week in order to continue their learning experiences in the group support chat. This way they may be able to balance their 1-1 listening and group support participation as well. * If you are comfortable being an active participant, please participate and practice reflecting listening. * If you are experiencing social anxiety or feeling uncomfortable, start as an observant participant and as you gain more exposure and understanding of the room and feel comfortable, you can start participating to become an active participant. Every step matters! * We will conduct a Weekly Check-in to learn how participants are doing, their experiences, or any challenges in order to address those challenges and support them better to complete the trial. We also will be keeping a progress track of how their 1-1 listening experiences are since they started participating in group support. * After 45 days, if they sense improvement in their active listening skills and feel like it helped them, they can continue participating and may apply to complete the GLDD course in order to Graduate from 7Cups Academy. * For the trial, all participants (active/observant) participate in the Sharing Circle Room. We picked Sharing Circle as the focused room for this trial because * Sharing Circle tends to support one share at a time, it will give ample opportunity for the listeners to observe, participate and interact with members in the group setting without feeling overwhelmed by the group setup (as usually, group chat rooms seem crowded and chats go fast and listeners with social anxiety or new listeners find it hard to be in them) * The Sharing Circle has a structure that makes it easier to participate and practice reflective listening. Remember: “Every voice is valid and you can end up making someone's day.” All thoughts, feedback, and questions are welcomed. I hope you all have a wonderful experience practicing active listening skills in the chatrooms. ------------------------- Visit Group Chatrooms Today!
