Addressing Depression Community Room Concerns
I am receiving many concerning messages and reports about behaviour in DCR.
DCR is a badge-locked room and its purpose is for those in the depression community to chat about things other than depression, and to enjoy one another
@Heather
I appreciate this move Heather! It was much needed for DCR! I hope with this move, things get settle down and there be a supportive environment!
@Heather
Appreciate the update! Glad that we are taking a new direction on trying to manage the room.
Heather,you should be glad about your decision and we all appreciate the cause.however , there are people who actually need support in DCR but couldn't get right help just because of the trolls.
@ResourcefulBanana812 - Depression Support 1 & 2 are accessible to those people. These rooms are specifically designated for support.
@Heather
Depression community room has been the busiest amongst all of them.So may be the newcomers would find it easy to get support from both the listeners and the members as well....I hope you get my point :)))
<3
@ResourcefulBanana812 This has been an issue ever since they kicked out guests + group chat activity overall went down. Now we're STILL, after all this time, left with more rooms than we need, which means more empty rooms...
Thanks guys for the upvotes@ResourcefulBanana812
i partially agree with this idea. lots of people really need such a room.. however, the support really wasn't there. usually lots of depressed people were gathering there and they only became feeling worse reading about each others problems... so yeah, that's great that you have brought attention to this issue. well, now i need to be more sociable to get at least supportive smile badge, hehe....
thank you for always paying attention to us, guys! 7cups community is the best one i ever was in! ❤❤❤
Is there anything else (other than report) we can do for those who talk of hurting themselves? I've suggested talking to therapists. I've been called names for not praying for those who want to hurt (or worst) to themselves. I will not pray that things take someone out.
I will pray or send positive vibes for strength in bad situations.
I feel like I cannot chat on the depression chat without at least one person who wants to hurt themselves.
@Heather
Heather hi- thank you for seeing these issues in this room. However, it then bounces out listeners that WANT TO help and support even in that room. Is there a way to keep our listeners having access to this room but they have to be at a certain level to gain access?? I also know there are some listeners not showing appropriate behaviors as well. But why consequent others??
@RumpleSteeleSkin
I do agree with this. We have had some really great listeners who have been supportive lately! Sad that the ones who aren't supportive are causing them to be locked out.
@Jenna
Yes-that is the only reason I am writing on this thread as DCR isn't my cup of tea but I will mod it if it needs it. But I do know change also brings in changes and different focuses. But I do hope @Heather changes this part in the DCR change and all. Make it so a listener is higher up like Explorer or around that level. That way the listener is pretty dedicated and stuff. Idk looking positive on this change so we can keep that room supportive and appropriate and it focuses on good
@RumpleSteeleSkin
I agree. I don't go in there often but when I did it was to help out and support. I've seen other listeners doing this too. I'm not personally upset that I can't go in but I think other listeners may be. It's a shame to keep out people who wanted to help from a support room. But I can see that something needed to be done to address the issues the room faced.
@Heather these sound like positive steps to take to help make DCR more supportive.
If this does not work, perhaps it might be necessary that offending individuals lose access to DCR for 2-4 weeks on first offense.
I'm concerned the behaviours that are concerning will spread into other rooms. However I'm glad that steps are taken intending to keep a supportive environment.
Good luck.
@kindSoul10 unfortunately you are correct. The people in DCR just went to other rooms. I think when you have a room like Thinking Space that people find their own people that it is beneficial to have their space and not interrupt people that come here for support
@Heather Okay you guys are barely in dcr, so how can you address the concerns when you yourself haven't been in dcr or rarely are. As for me? I'm constantly in dcr. I'm okay with it being badge locked but the rest... There are decent listeners that come into DCR to mingle and help out other users, and you just got rid of that. Now you guys are just starting to monitoring us? HAH. Mods rarely come into DCR unless they have to, i mean sure some are regulars but still. Give us more mods that monitor the room, cause when the room does get into chaos a mod is never around. DCR can be calm and have nice chats, the times we do get crazy where is a mod?
@Gretchlyn while i do understand what youre saying that its unfair to penalise all listeners - especially the ones that do use it for its designated purpose the sad reality is that there are so few actual supportive conversations in contrast to the ones that arent. mods dont attend or monitor that room enough, granted, but if you look at the track history of the ones that have theyve been the ones enforcing a whole anything goes agenda and not actually making sure the chatroom rules are even being followed! it is sad it had to come to this, agreed, but at the same token something had to be done. i actually dont think i could even tell you the last time i stumbled in there and even saw that room being used for its purpose, which is to help people. even as a bystander or a pedestrian entering that room all i generally ever saw was altercations, sexual innuendo, profane and explicit dialogue, and well...just drama in general! mods really can only do so much, and as easy as it is to point the finger at them for providing a lack of supervision at the end of the day all the small things such as playing with discussion banners, people constantly circumventing, and people just partaking in antisocial behaviour in general has to take a lot of the blame as well, and there was a LOT of that happening. i dont fully agree with the change, but i can see where its coming from. i think a compromise should be made and a middle ground could be met.
@LunarC Actually there are plenty of casual conversastions. Granted very few if any on depression or support. Why? It's a community room, not a support room, thus it's more focused on conversation rather then support/help. Does that mean DCR will not help out someone in distress? No, we will try to help them or redirect them to the support rooms or a listener for help. The mods that I have seen, there are mods who will sort out DCR and issue warnings and what not and uphold the room to the rules. Yes some mods have a laid back approach, but when DCR acts out of control some mods will react, others will slink away or there are no mods around when needed...No matter how many times I use rule 22. See the times you stumbled upon DCR there may have been trouble, which granted DCR does get into. Yet all the times I've been there, I've seen the good and the bad. DCR can have decent conversastions. More supervision of mods, who can handle DCR when it gets out of control and wont slink away is needed.
@Gretchlyn look im not going to debate it, but i dont think DCR should get off so lightly. mods losing badges, banners being played with, circumvention, emergency form abuse. and THAT does NOT happen in any other room. like thats factual. i mean i understand where youre coming from, like i already said, but lets not defend DCR and blow these shortcomings off as mere problems. i mean it had escalated to a serious degree, and thats the bottom line. and the reception of moderators already as it was was, and i quote, ugh, the police are here again. but i guess what do i know, im not a regular. ^.^
@LunarC So you're going to let a few bad apples ruin the entire room? There are a lot of decent people in DCR all in their own different ways. Mods loosing badges cant be blamed on DCR, that has to do with admin and a mod purge. I haven't been in other rooms to see the banners being played with, but i'm sure it happens not as often cause there is more traffic into DCR thus more trolls were coming in. Shutting of DCR/making DCR hard to get into will only take our trouble makers and blow them into other rooms like CC and DS1. Escalated to a serious degree? Uhh idk what finally lead the admins to finally take charge and try to monitor DCR more, but DCR has been consistent with it's problem periods and good periods. Not every room is perfect, and every room has it's share of drama, so from what I heart. Yet if your a regular DCR visitor or been in it a few times...You'll see despite our rough edges, we can be a good community. Like right at the moment as I'm writing this, we're currently talking about Criminal Minds. There are mod haters in every room, not just DCR. I have joked about mods being popo, but seriously the mods I have met that ventured into DCR were cool.
I just wish you admin, would ask us regular DCR people what we would like see done with DCR instead of imposing? Like I prob seen your face once in DCR.
