Frequently Asked Questions - Group Support
by ASilentObserver
Last post
December 23rd, 2024
...See more Here are the questions that I came across during one-on-one, Group Chats, and Forum Posts. I hope you'll be able to find the answer to your query here! Please read the thread through carefully, and if your query isn't answered here, ask below or PM a member of the CM team. We will keep updating this thread to ensure frequently asked questions get answered and documented. 1. Why should I join Group Support? You should join Group Support for the following reasons- * To know you are not alone. Many others may be struggling and going through the same things as you. * To discuss your concerns, experiences, and emotions to get support. * To provide support to someone who might be going through challenging times. Join group chats to experience and find out more!  [https://www.7cups.com/connect/groupChatrooms.php] 2. Why am I unable to see any of the Group Support Chats? Probably you do not meet the criteria to unlock the group support chats yet. Please check this thread [https://www.7cups.com/forum/groupmod/CommunityManagersOffice_2008/NewCriteriatoAccessGroupChatsLiveNow_281153/] to learn about all the criteria you need to unlock the group chats. If you experience any challenges, you can send a direct message to @ASilentObserver [http://7cups.com/@ASilentObserver] 3. Why are group support chats badges locked? Group Support Chats are badge-locked to ensure a safe and compassionate environment for community members. We want to provide the best support to our members.  4. Where can I find the weekly schedule of the community mods? Here you can check the latest schedule [https://www.7cups.com/forum/SafetyKnowledgeat7Cups_181/CommunityModeratorWeeklySchedule_1640/CommunityModScheduleWeekofJan06_214569/]of the community mods. 5. Why did I receive a warning? Please check this post [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupportChatRooms_140/InformationUpdates_822/WhydidIgetthiswarning_44686/] to learn about it. Also, you can reach out to the moderator who warned you to discuss the reasons in a private message. To avoid warnings & mutes, please maintain supportive, inclusive, and respectful behavior in the group chats. 6. Why should I not discuss or share personal information in the group chats? We request you not share your personal or contact information as we do not allow offsite contacts. We value our member's privacy and safety. Also, it will be a violation of 7 Cups Group Chats and Community Guidelines [https://www.7cups.com/community-guidelines/]. Read more here! [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupport_168/ObsDesk_2008/ImportantupdateonGroupSupportRooms_215418/] 7. Why can I not discuss topics like Politics, Religion, Sex, etc.? We ask you not to engage in these topics as: * They are debating topics and due to differences in opinions, it could lead to unwanted conflicts. * These topics can be uncomfortable or triggering for some of the members. * We don't want to miss an opportunity to provide support to someone in need.  * So, to ensure a friendly and supportive environment and foster inclusive participation, it is better not to discuss these topics. * But, if you are interested in discussing current events and their impact on your well-being, you can request a Community moderator to open the Current Events Group chat for you. 8. What happens if I receive a warning? A warning in itself is nothing to worry about. It does not affect your account and will expire in 6 hours. If, however, you continue to receive warnings you may be muted. You would need to be warned 3 times to receive a mute. A mute lasts for 24 hours from the time of the mute. 6 hours without a warning will clear the slate for you. 9. What happens if I get muted? The first or second mute will last for 24 hours. After this time, you will be able to use the group chats again as usual.  10. Someone is upsetting me. What should I do? If someone is being hurtful towards you, click mute/report in their message. You can personally mute them in this way, which means you will not be able to see anything they type. Additionally, you can file a report on the person if their behavior violates Community Guidelines. [https://www.7cups.com/community-guidelines/Safety-Reporting-c97e53621f924398b1db1088c9def307] 11. There is a problem in the group chat. How can I contact a moderator? There are two ways you can get help: * Check in another group chat for a moderator or community moderator. * Submit an emergency help request [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf6mgwzVCA-TTDzahtCH7mXdmxE5jTakstcQDWoQ_nXk2CfdA/viewform]. The emergency form is also located in the group chat rules.  12. Some members have badges beside their names. What do these mean and how can I earn one? The badges are to recognize contributions to group support. You can earn the badges by being kind and supportive in the group chat. Learn more here. [http://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupportChatRooms_140/InformationUpdates_822/ShinyNewMemberBadges_36271/1/] 13. Where can I find out what discussions and support sessions are happening? * Take a look at the community events calendar [https://tockify.com/7cups/agenda] to find out what's on. * Alternatively, you can click on "Join live guided discussions" from the side list to see what is on right now. * You can check the community page [https://www.7cups.com/community/] to find the active discussions going on in the group chats.   14. What can moderators do? Learn about what moderators [http://www.7cups.com/forum/Welcome_27/GroupSupportChat_195/GroupSupportModeratorRole_33260/] can and cannot do in this forum post. 15. Can I leave a review for a moderator or listener in Group Support? Yes! You can leave reviews for moderators, listeners, and room supporters in the Group Support Review form. [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScmfpQqScgcFxOSHveQfbP52m-XNu-DBC6oK7ieTHrGQ4hJ3w/viewform] This can be found in the group chat rules. We use the information you leave here for quality control purposes and to pass on feedback anonymously to moderators.  Or, you can simply leave a shout-out in this thread: Group Support Champions!  [https://www.7cups.com/forum/groupmod/CommunityManagersOffice_2008/IntroducingGroupSupportChampions_326199/] 16. Who can see the reports I file? All reports now need to be submitted through the Helpdesk page [https://www.7cups.com/community-guidelines/Safety-Reporting-c97e53621f924398b1db1088c9def307]. Learn more about the process here! Only the team can see the reports to review and process them as per standard protocols and guidelines.  17. How is a Community Moderator different from a volunteer moderator? Community Moderators are assigned specific time blocks while volunteer moderators participate whenever they like! Secondly, they are present to extend the support to the community leaders and community as per the needs. 18.  How can I access a doorkeeper to promote a group chat? To access the doorkeeper, there are two ways:  * You can become a group chat leader like a Room supporter, or Chatroom moderator [https://www.7cups.com/listener/training/leadership/fdc3639b1dcb416bb0dc1033dcb0831b/], and as the role privileges you get the doorkeeper privileges too.  * You can apply for a doorkeeper role through this form [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScm9ZtncP_uT2Bjl6M1t1z2jcofHdSFgGYTw-2VqCiIqBQR8A/viewform]. To be a doorkeeper, you need to host at least 5 sessions per month. Out of two, one should be in a pop-up group chat.   20) What is Sharing Circle? Sharing Circle is an hourly session where members can join a queue to get 7 minutes to share anything that’s on their minds. While that member is sharing, the rest of the group chat can send short supportive comments, but not ask questions or interrupt. If you want to know more, you can check out this post here: https://tinyurl.com/Sharing-Circles   21) Why can't people join along the Sharing Circle queue? We do not allow that because of the following potential reasons:  - The host might miss someone to include in the queue if they are busy listening and supporting the sharer.  - If the host is a community mod, then it will be hard for them to maintain a consistent queue without missing anyone as they moderate other group chats too.  - If all who are interested in joining the queue, keep typing * during a share, the sharing will get disrupted and the sharer might get distracted from the share as they will feel that no one is listening to them.  So to maintain fairness and consistency for all sharers and everyone,  we request all to be patient during the ongoing share and after the share is completed, the queue can be re-opened to invite all to join.  22) Why can't we speak other languages in group chats?  We are a global community, and group chats are inclusive spaces. As all of us are from different regions, our native language is different too. So, interacting in that language might be easier and comforting for us but others who may not know that language, will feel excluded in the group chats and may not be able to have supportive or inclusive chats with you and others.  So, to avoid such situations, we request and encourage all to use English as it is a common language to bridge our communication gap and allow us to have inclusive chats and conversations. 23) How can I apply for Group Support leadership roles?  Please check the Become a Leader - Member Group Support [https://www.7cups.com/listener/training/leadership/fdc3639b1dcb416bb0dc1033dcb0831b/] page to learn more about all roles, their criteria, and application form links.  24) Why is the room supporter badge not visible for Member Room Supporters?  As member account is primarily focused on getting personal support, while the room supporter role is focused on providing support and fostering supportive and inclusive conversation in the group chats. So to create a balance between both purposes where a member can get personal support as and when they can as well as able to perform room supporter’s responsibilities, we do not show the badge on member accounts. It allows members to switch to seek personal support anytime.  25) Can as a listener we can share our personal experiences?  I would say listeners can take part but remember your role is also to maintain boundaries and encourage members to share more. Ask open questions to the group to foster deep conversations with members. If you feel to share more in order to get personal support, we encourage you to switch to your member accounts to do that.  -------------------------   Some resources for you to check! - * A note on triggers in Group Support [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupport_168/InformationUpdates_822/ANoteonTriggersinGroupSupport_41379/1/] * What can I expect from a moderator? Community Centered Mod: * If your application is successful, you will be invited to participate in mod training. * Once you submit the training form, you will be reached out by one of the Group Support Mentor Leaders or Ambassadors for further guidance. * You will be listed as Chatroom Moderator in the leader board in a specific sub-community. This is what gives you moderation privileges in the corresponding rooms. Note: Your mod title will only show up in the rooms you are a moderator for. Meaning, you do not receive the Group Mod Badge unless you are global. The Support Team Leaders of the teams you selected to join will also be notified. You will be contacted by them within 3 days to a week of your original mod training. Leaders will welcome you to the team as well as give you further instructions on additional training you may need to moderator their community room, if any. For example: If you pick Self-Harm, the Self-Harm team leader will give you further information on how to safely moderate discussion on self-harm in the room. If your application is unsuccessful, a leader will reach out to offer feedback and further guidance. Global Moderators: After your application is completed, please allow up to 3 days to a week for review. You will be contacted by a Group Support Mentor Leader or Ambassador to let you know if your application has been approved or what you need to do in the future before reapplying if your application was denied. In order to ensure the integrity of the Mod badge, we will ask that you aim to send at least 100 group support messages per month. We ask that you support and guide the community-centered mods and show up in the rooms consistently. Those who don't meet the requirements because of self-care breaks will be able to reapply for their badge back without completing the full training if they lost their badge within 2 months. Confused? [https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerFeedbackSiteUpdates_38/SITECHANGESUPDATESSPECIFICTOLISTENERCOMMUNTIY_506/SelfCareBreakProtocolandGuidelines_99436/] If it has been more than two months since you lost your badge, you will be asked to complete the full training again. Things change quickly and we want to make sure you are updated and aware of any changes with the moderation system. Reintroducing Mega Members - A Leadership Opportunity For Members!
by ASilentObserver
Last post
February 1st, 2024
...See more Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing well. Today I am excited to share with you that we are reintroducing the Mega Member role. It is a leadership opportunity for members. History It was initially started on August 25, 2016 [https://www.7cups.com/forum/CommunityProjects_124/MegaMembersLeadership_974/MegaMembersIntroducinganewroleformembers_47532/1/] but due to some reasons, it was paused. But over the past, couple of months, the Community Management Team was discussing and thinking about reviving this role but with a better structure. This is an effort to give due recognition and appreciation to the members who are going above and beyond every day to scale up the support and compassion in different spaces of the community. It is also a leadership opportunity for the members so that they may be able to take better care of themselves as well as become the helping hands in bringing more support for all. Present Time Earlier it was started for different tracks like Group Support Chat rooms, Forum, and Feed. But, as we are starting it fresh, we will be trialing it for Group Support Chat Rooms for a month. Then, gather the feedback, challenges, and suggestions to iterate the process better and add other areas as well under this leadership opportunity. We will keep iterating it to ensure members in this leadership role get all support and help to build the community. Who is a Mega Member? Members who are regularly taking growth path steps, talking to listeners as members, participating in the group support chat rooms or forums but also contributing to the community in their own special ways to support and improve the community. Mega Member would be equivalent to the Mentor role of the Listener side. Responsibilities of Mega Members * Maintain a 50/50 balance between receiving support & giving back to the community. As a member, receiving support will be their priority. * Be the voice of the community and help Track Leaders and Admins to identify challenges and concerns that need to be addressed. * Help to improve the quality of support and scale up the compassion through different initiatives. * Take initiative to create an inclusive and supportive environment, hold interesting conversations and guide a positive dialogue in the chat rooms. * Take small steps to learn and grow as well as encourage others to do the same. * Host check-ins, open chats, sharing circles, or support/ guided discussions equivalent to an hour per month. * Ensure to welcome and guide new members to feel comfortable to share and participate in the chat rooms. Criteria to become Mega Member * Completed “Compassion Course” [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdbuGsqFMbaKWtCoC1WHaCJfaKfwfI8YZ62CsqTI2BzqVNwDg/viewform] * Have a “Helping Hand” or “Wise One” badge * Zero behavioral reports in the last three months Resources that may find helpful: * Watch the video on “How to Hold Space” [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48OKZh8B30E] * 5 Tips to Become a Great Chat Room Leader [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupport_168/CommunityManagersOffice_2008/5TipstoBecomeaGreatChatRoomLeader_224363/] * Guide to host Group support discussion [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1s7VNgptftgoUephwVwewsBNbEyLOOHZ7EMDDbSqbq7A/edit?ts=5feced7e] * Guide to host Pop-ups [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KLGUoXH8mZyIP6z_-TjLVCsyOja6WRs-8yO5xCYE64Y/edit] Reminder! ...See more Hello, teen side! I hope you are all doing well. I am excited to share that we personalized the requirements to be a Teen Group Support Leader. We identified that our teen community has fewer teen leaders even though many would like to become one. Based on the feedback we received, we determined a need for personalized requirements for teen roles. So to strengthen this area, we’re starting small by adjusting just a few roles, trialing in the Group Support domain. If you all find it helpful and it succeeds in more teens being able to join leadership roles, then the personalized requirements will be applied to other domains as well to better guide and mentor our teen leaders. What Is It Like To Be A Group Support Leader?
by ASilentObserver
Last post
November 8th, 2022
...See more Hi everyone, This post showcases what it’s like to be a Group Support Leader in the community. What is a Group Support Leader? It is an umbrella term for different leadership roles in the Member Group Chats such as Sharing Circle Host, Discussion Leader, Room Supporter, Chatroom Moderator, etc. What do these leaders do? They support members in group chats. They build and maintain a safe and inclusive community, host discussions on diversified topics, foster healthy and uplifting conversations, and ensure all feel heard, supported, and comforted. Every role has its own specific activities that they perform in order to bring support to members in the member group chats. Member group chats are like Sharing Circle, Support Room, General Support, Anxiety, LGBTQ+, Relationship, Trauma, etc. What do our Group Support Leaders think about their roles? This is what our existing group support leaders have to say about their role: * Being able to keep the chatrooms safe and making our hosts feel supported and valued so that they continue volunteering for us * Get to foster greater activity within rooms via hosting etc. * Supporting people generally in chats and welcoming people who are new! * I do on-the-spot moderating and enjoy that I can support and often finish up with a one-on-one chat with a member who really needs some extra attention. * I love the energy in the room and love to read the comments which usually are quite thoughtful * Spending time in rooms, ensuring a safe, inclusive environment. * The feeling of achievement after a good session * I like being able to be flexible. * The love in the chat, it's such a vibe! * Hosting sessions * That I am able to provide comfort and empathy and care in a more in-depth way to our people. * Ability to support members * I get to help people further. * I like helping support everyone and helping to increase morale, cheering people, helping hosts, etc. * As a room supporter as well as a mod, I've been able to find better ways to bring up the topics that need to be discussed. Overall, it's a healthy job that helps me find myself. As a room supporter, chatroom moderator, or host, one is helping a member in distress feel heard and supported and knowing that there are people who they can count on and they are not alone in their challenging times. How can I become a Group Support Leader? There are specific requirements and criteria for each role. In addition to following Community and Chatroom Guidelines, one needs to participate in the member group chats like Sharing Circle, and Support Room and observe the participation, participate when feels comfortable and attend at least 3 Sharing Circle sessions. It will help one to become a host or discussion leader. If you are interested to be one, you can apply to become a: * Sharing Circle Host here [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfPe2N1QUjB_KEFF_EhAtZymtydkkIFlruU7u0lC35q4eTztA/viewform] * Discussion Leader here [https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf6xM-bHb1VK1w0BcVU0-S-xCxgxYfIJ9kRP1M_-ZNzABpU2w/viewform] * Room Supporter here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupport_168/ApplicationStation_2417/RoomSupporterUpdatedRequirementsandApplication_247786/] * Chatroom Moderator here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/GroupSupport_168/ApplicationStation_2417/ApplyforChatroomModeratorInformationonCommCenteredGlobal_112280/] If you have any questions about the role or member group chats, you can reach out to @ASilentBunny, @Lou73 and @ASilentObserver
