MHAM: Acceptance and Acknowledgement

nadiia-ploshchenko-wlusbd3ntru-unsplash_1716408464.jpg

Many of us struggle to truly accept who we are as a person and it is not an automatic process for us to accept ourselves. It takes time, lots of patience and self-kindness to fully accept ourselves for who we are and to accept our positively perceived traits and those we may view negatively. We all make mistakes and that is okay, we learn from our mistakes and they can help us grow if we listen to the lessons they are sending us.

Accepting yourself for who you are, does not mean you have to celebrate every single positive aspect that happens in your life or your achievements as I know this can be a difficult concept for some people.. It is also useful to accept even the not-so-positive moments of our lives so we can begin working towards personal growth.

Acceptance is not about resignation or passivity; it's about courageously facing our realities with open arms. It's the profound realisation that, despite our struggles, we are worthy of love, compassion, and understanding. Whether it's coming to terms with a mental health condition, acknowledging our limitations, or accepting the ebb and flow of life's uncertainties, embracing acceptance empowers us to reclaim our inner strength and resilience.

The act of acknowledgment is where true healing begins. Acknowledgment invites us to honour our emotions and experiences without judgment or suppression. It's about creating space for our vulnerabilities to exist, acknowledging the complexity of our feelings, and validating our lived experiences. What we go through is very real and we all deserve to feel heard.

When we try to repress feelings we instead create more pain and often when we experience negative emotions, we instead try to remove ourselves from feeling uncomfortable. If you learn to sit with your emotions, you will begin processing them which means they will eventually become easier to deal with. The only way out is through and be gentle, it takes time and you are amazing just as you are right now.

Discussion: What is one thing you accept about yourself or what is one thing you would like to accept about yourself? If you have more to share then please do! :)

One step at a time. Self-acceptance is a continuous journey and not a destination but just know how much progress you are making. You are amazing just as you are and I hope you continue to move forward in your journey of accepting yourself just a little more. 🌻

@LisaMeighanMScGMBPsS 😥😥 I'm not doing well with this topic lately, when it comes to my own problems and struggles, I do rather ignore than address the situation, cause I don't want to feel sad or depressed, God has given me a chance at a real life now and I don't want to waste a second of it. I try to comfort and be supportive to as many people as possible here, whilst also having a joke around in the icecbreakers/game section. I like to make people smile. But lately some of the people get mad at me, and I don't know what I did wrong, anger is my biggest fear. Even friends I've been really supportive off, and I'm a bit scared, well more upset than scared. I come on here, at the time of the day, when my pain levels are high, so I can distract myself for a little while. 😥😥 I don't know what I'm doing wrong😞

@Tinywhisper11 Sorry me again 😬 I don't think it's that you're doing anything wrong. They might just be having a bad day themselves? And sometimes it can really be hard to get the tone of what someone is saying through text *offers safe hugs* ❤️

Just like @mytwistedsoul has mentioned it may be coming more from the people who are getting upset and perhaps it is a reflection of their difficult day or circumstances, try to remember it is not a reflection of you. I can tell just how much you try to uplift others and I think that is a beautiful part of what makes you the person that you are.

Self-acceptance is a difficult topic for many but I hope one day you will be able to see how we see you at 7 Cups. You are a truly remarkable person and you are valued. Be kind to yourself just like you are to everyone else. One step at a time and it won't happen overnight. 🌿

I have trouble believing all that...maybe it's the jargon here & there, like "validation". The main reason for my skepticism is that the whole post is based on the assumption that once this self-acceptance is done, healing is possible. That isn't true for everyone. I am an example, as my chronic conditions are just that: chronic. They will never go away. In my case, healing is impossible. Also, acceptance sounds too much like surrender to my ears.

I am sorry to hear you struggle to believe in acceptance and acknowledgment and it is always a continuous journey. It takes us time to feel like we can try to work on the issues we may be experiencing and making improvements no matter how small is progress even if we feel like it isn't. Thank you for sharing :)

@LisaMeighanMScGMBPsS That I have a learning disability.

@LisaMeighanMScGMBPsS  What I accept are the choices I’ve made that I regretted, because I know I made them for a reason based on what was going on at the time.

What I’d like to accept is my personality. Sometimes I do, but it is a regular problem for other adults in my life, because I’m not doing what they want me to. No one is interested in what might be best for me. It doesn’t matter if I reduce my time with negative people and invite new people into my life, it keeps happening over and over. I’m distressed about this all the time. I’d like I have to be alone to have any chance of being happy, and just hope that I don’t get lonely. I still feel alone with people around anyway.

I would like to accept that I feel a bit lost as this might help me to move forwards.
