List one thing you know about Chronic Pain
Come in and share something you know about chronic pain, whether it's from personal experience or you've learned about it through others.
Even if your condition is not curable, the right doctor can be really helpful. I have chronic migraines and getting the right neurologist was a lifesaver for me. I used to be completely crushed by the pain and now I am able to work and go out and I have "rescue" medications if the pain gets too bad.
@Pleiades20 I'm glad you found a helpful doctor!
@AffyAvo
Thanks! So am I! :)
@Pleiades20 hello! I have chronic migraines for more than 10 year. Ive been to many neurologists and did many exams but we cannot find the reason. I dont have any food reaction . The only thing I could relate is strees and something upsetting that happens. Oh, and also spending too much time in the sun. Having chronic migraine limits you in many ways. People also think that u are antisocial and dont like them
@Ayla31
Sorry for the late reply, I haven't had my computer with me so it's harder to post online. Yeah, stress is a big trigger, for me it's one of the biggest ones. Caffeine can also mess me up if I drink took much coffee. It is hard when you have to cancel plans and I'm sorry you are dealing with this as well.
Have you talked to your neurologist about preventative medications? They have made some progress with those even in the last year.
@AffyAvo
I know that it isn't always visible and people don't airways believe you.
And i know that spevialists are do hard to find and get an appointment with, and sometimes they cancel on you even though you had to schedule tyne appointment 6 months in advance
And sometimes the solution they provide to you worsens other conditions or gives you an Another condition you didn't have before
@AffyAvo
That no "natural" thing will treat it. Is chronic for a reason. I hate people who think they think I and many other suffer out of choise.
And my condition isn't even the worst. I have IBS and chronic depression and anxiety. So chronic problems mentally and physically. But I know many people with much more painful conditions that hear this everyday...
chronic pain can really limit a person's normal activities, and reduce their hability to adopt a healthy lifestyle, which may result in more problems. I would say that it has a negative impact on our global health, both, physical and mental :(
Chronic pain is often not understood and often people want to measure the level of your pain on a scale, however often with chronic it's also about the length of time that makes the pain unbearable. I have chronic migraines and the pain varies from barely any at all to the worst pain I have ever felt, however sometimes is the mid level ongoing pain that gets me more than the excruciating stuff. Idk. I feel people misunderstand it.
They're times when I hide behind it. It's always there a little like an unwelcome comfort blanket. I'm always going to be in this pain, and it shouldn't stop me doing so much, in reality it does, and sometimes I just let it.
@AffyAvo...howdy from Texas!!!
One thing I know about chronic pain is that its far too easy to become depressed...I've lived with the pain from nerve damage for going on 5 months now...really difficult to find the cheerful me is used to be before it settled in after I had to have a chest tube...she's still there but so buried 'difficult to find' feels like hopelessness some days...
It is possible to experience something called fibro fog. It's when your brain goes all fuzzy and you can't remember something words or keep your line of thought. But don't panic, you can work through it and people will still understand what you want to say or do. It is hard, i know, but don't give up.
