With the end of October and the beginning of November, harvest season comes to mind. Canadian Thanksgiving has passed, American Thanksgiving is to come, Diwali celebrations are occuring and pumpkins are still floating around! I know other cultures have celebrations related to harvest too.

What types of harvest celebrations do you celebrate?

Do you face any challenges at this time of year?

How are you doing today? You are welcome to pop in to this thread multiple times throughout the month and share the tough things and the good things this month.

@AffyAvo I don't have family and so the Holidays are challenging. My health had improved,  but recently took a dive. I keep trying though. I miss my 7 cups family, they all got me through some really tough times.

@AffyAvo

for us this time of years is very challenges as it coming into the holiday  season. were family meet and do things together. seeing we moved away from family 7 and 1/2 years ago we not see the. but also as a child the school breaks were bad for us. due to being left alone in our abusive brothers care.  the oldest brother 4 years older then us and he always been very abusive to us. so for us holidays  are not very good. also our dad was a big  drinker when  not working. he get very abusive when drinking too.

so from  Halloween  to New years day we feel more and at times shut down  even isolated more. this we know not healthy but more out of habits for us. we been working on not doing it last few years.

so we doing so so right now with mixed emoticons  we not even able to label what they be. on another forum platform we us to go on people called us stupid for not knowing the emotions we was having and being able to label them. was told one learns that as a child so no adult should not be able to do that. so we felt like something was wrong with us that was big. we did not go back there after that. as when we tried to explain why they made even more fun of us.

so we just want to be understood  and accepted  were we  at. our family never could do that at all either. so that why saying we doing so so too.

@stormieandpaws I can understand how the negative past experiences would lead to complicated emotions now.

I hope you are able to make some good memories for the future, even if they look different than what people would label traditional.

@AffyAvo

thank you been doing that  sence i moved like use to hate my birthday. due to as a child  we get what they called a birthday spanken but  it was being hit by every member of the family. so we use to fear and hate birthdays. but after i moved we started to get self a few birthday gifts and we buy either cupcakes or a small cake for our birthday. then when i turned 50yr old a freind through me a small birthday party was first  like party with friends i ever had. as most as a child was a small gift and a cake at dinner time. the birthday spanken was given in the morning many times we was woke up with someone hitting us and saying happy birthday we get hit few times then pinch with them saying that was to grow on.

so we been coming up with ways to do holidays   and special  yearly days too. like we call February  our birthday month. last year we did something special  each day of the month. we still have the biggest trouble with Halloween  due to the things happened around Halloween. the hard part is well we not to talk about what happened. due to it scare people triggers others and many not believe it could even happen. so they say we making it up.

@stormieandpaws That's awful how what should have been a celebration turned into a scary time. I'm glad you've been able to turn it around with friends!

@stormieandpaws hey! Welcome!

I read your post and felt so many emotions there, but to label them is truly hard so you are not alone.

This time of year is so very difficult for many. Family can often cause joy or pain, anger or sadness.

You are very welcome here 🌟

@MistyMagic

thank you yes so right for me family always been painful. as a kid we was abused and even due to us being female treated different  then my 2 brothers. we was very isolated by family. due to abuse and having added rules my brothers did not  have. my dad looks down on females. my mother due to abuse from childhood up has what some  call learned helplessness' so when did not stand up for self and me. so for me family unsafe and  painful.

seem others here have many of the same  issues that we do so they seem to understand us well too

Been having lower back pain, edging into the rear part of my hips. But that's a minor concern as I've been a bit active lately, so it is to be expected.

My real problem right now is sore hands, for the same reason. I have a major job coming up this weekend...anyone who reads my journal here knows about it. It will be physically demanding. I cannot go into it with muscular pain in my hands. In fact I'm trying not to do much at all but household chores being what they are... Gotta be as close to 100% as I can get, especially since it will be hazardous (situational awareness is an iron necessity for this kind of job).

I have Tiger Balm & some pain-relieving cream (& a gel)...they help my hands somewhat. But I'm wondering what else I can do in advance of the big day. CBD gummies or edibles are only an option if there is no THC in them because I don't want to be stoned. No one with any sense goes into something like this while high on something.

What to do? I'm open to suggestions, folks.

So sorry you are in so much pain. 🤗 you are being smart to be the most pain free you can and be safe.

I live with chronic pain daily spine and arthritis everywhere. This guy sat weekend I blew out my knee by stepping on a kitchen chair to get meds in high cupboard so no driving for me for a while. I understand the fear of mobility and independence. It is my greatest fear and how to navigate life. You are not alone.

I love that you are living your life on your terms doing what you love and being safe. Love that for you! I gotta catch up on your journal to get the details …

@SunShineAlwaysGrateful Feel free to read it whenever, Cheri... I didn't know your real (first) name until today.

It calls up an image in my mind of a vivacious woman, probably with red hair (enhanced with Clairol), at least 5'6" & maybe taller...the kind of woman whose smile can attract the attention of every man within line of sight if she wants.

@slowdecline48 I wish you luck with doing the job safely!

I know with physio they often alternate heat and cold. Kneading dough comes to mind, a soft dough so you don't fatigue more and warm to get the blood flowing followed by a soak in cool water with epsom salts? Warming up before getting to work too.

I've had some cortisone injects the past few years for eczema and there's some perks to those, Exercising was certainly more enjoyable with other inflammation under control!

@AffyAvo Interesting ideas. When I was getting treated for tennis elbow earlier this year, at one point one of the docs said he doesn't give cortisone shots because in the long run, they break down tendon & muscle tissue at the site of the shot. He's the first doctor of any kind who ever told me that... Even if what he said is true, given the lifestyle I'm getting into these days I doubt that localized tissue destruction would be an issue...unless I get rheumatoid arthritis or something. But until then I'll be pretty active for a few years, out of necessity as much as anything else. People with muscular atrophy usually have it because they spend most of their waking hours sitting, hardly walk anywhere & don't exert themselves. It's a strictly modern disease.

@slowdecline48 Yeah,it happened. Mine were being used systemically though, so less of a concern. I have tiny indent marks, and that was with a handful of injections in a year for about 3.5 years.

No idea if they are permanent, but they don't bother me and don't look that bad. Too small too affect function plus I don't know how much is muscle breakdown vs. fat.

I can see where it's more of a concern with localized injections.

@AffyAvo I had my second spinal surgery on monday, currently hooked up to a drip and other machines 🙁 I'm paralysed from the waist down, but I caught pneumonia, and with it a chesty cough, anyway things went wrong and I lost all feeling in my upper left body. So for a while now I've only been able to move my right arm and head. This is the second surgery in the past month or so. But my neural passageways are still working and should now heal itself. I've been getting some painful tingling in my left arm and done my left side😁 so that's good. I can't wait to get home though🙂 it's kinda lonely here.

I'm originally from America, but when I was 18 I was moved to the U.K., I live in a carehome now. We have chefs here, because all the other residents are older folks, and need help. Since I got here the chefs decided to do a turkey roast dinner for thanksgiving, and we all celebrate God ❤❤ it's really nice ❤

@Tinywhisper11 I wish you well with your recovery.

That's lovely that the care home brought some of your home in with celebrations they hold.
