EmmaE May 2nd, 2022

hi hi everyone and welcome to our very first post for our may event, positive mental health!

an amazing and important way to improve our mental health is to ensure we have a support system to be there for us both in the good times and the bad.

@EmmaE great thread!

so, what's your support system?

Every day I start out my day thinking that somehow I am going to bring joy and happiness to others. And somehow that makes me feel better.

Support system is my family!! My mom and daddy and brothers especially my brothers Kahiau and Lani they are my favorite brothers and they all help me a lot and take care of me and when I am sad or anxious or upset they help me calm down. When I am scared to they let me go to them so I am not so scared like at night time when I am only one awake.

My support system consists of friends, family, professionals, and even kind strangers!

  • I'm really grateful to have close friends to support each other. Friends know us well and we just "connect" easily. They know so much about me already, so I don't need to repeat the same stories over and over again when I need to vent to them.
  • I understand the importance of family. No matter what, I always have them. It's still a struggle for me to communicate with my parents about deep topics, but I'm slowly learning to believe that I can trust them and they are here to support me through anything.
  • Sometimes emotional and social support isn't enough. In such situations, I have counsellors, psychologists, and psychiatrists that I can contact for more advanced support. In university, I have academic counsellors as well as peer counsellors to consult. I also have regular offline appointments with a psychiatrist who gives me treatment. When I need immediate advice, I can go to the online platforms available in my country and talk to health professionals, including psychologists and psychiatrists (I'm really lucky these services are affordable too!).
  • There have been so many moments when compassionate strangers support me through difficult situations. 7 Cups is full of of them! When I feel really alone, I can log in to my member account and there will always be kind listeners who will support me while maintaining anonymity.

My support system is invaluable to me. ๐Ÿ’– Not only do they provide social and emotional support, they also give me unique points of view, positive influence, and healthy distractions. They know when to refer me to professionals. My friends and I also check-in on each other because some days it can be difficult to reach out when we need to. My support system makes me feel heard and seen, valuable, and safe.

I donโ€™t have a support system anymore. My therapist left a few months ago. I was just sent to a new NP that I donโ€™t know. My family is no support and my sister lives a few hours away. Itโ€™s a very lonely world
