Weekly Prompt #19: What are the triggers or situations that tend to worsen your depressive symptoms?
Hello everyone, I hope you are all being easy on yourself this week.
Last week we discussed: Is loneliness a constant companion or an occasional visitor in your life? Thank you to all who participated and shared their thoughts for discussion. I enjoyed them. I hope you all did too. If you didn't share yours, please share them here and I look forward to reading and discussing them with you
This week's prompt: What are the triggers or situations that tend to worsen your depressive symptoms?
I wanted to start a discussion on how triggers or situations tend to make depression worse. Take a moment to think about the specific circumstances or events that tend to exacerbate your feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or emptiness. Are there any patterns or common themes that you can identify? I look forward to hearing and discussing with you all!

Overcoming depression by setting goals
Seeing other people having a good time, being happier than I am, depresses me, especially when they're having get-togethers, parties, picnics, etc., because I didn't gte to be a part of such things while growing up and for most of my adulthood.
@WharfRat Thank you for sharing those experiences while growing up, Wharf. It sounds like a painful reminder of what you missed out on. What feelings come up for you when you think about wanting to be part of social events now?
@ASilentObserver
I reached out to several people when I first started telling people about what happened to me (the abuse). They expressed sympathy, but still want nothing to do with me. They get together locally and post pictures of their experiences on ***. I wonder why they can't invite me, but then I remember it's because they have been getting together amongst themselves throughout their adulthood and there is no reason to start including me after all this time.
@ASilentObserver
The biggest one is anything that makes me feel like people don't like me. It's not that I care what they think, but it does build up and make me feel bad for making people feel whatever way they do.
Alot triggers my depression but I have noticed recently that when I'm home alone , changes to rountine one that one has really triggered me is that when im ignored in rooms i feel like im not welcomed there this has happened lately I im in a bad depressive episode and not helping
@Georginahowe It sounds like being home alone and feeling ignored in rooms has really added to your difficult depressive episode. Feeling unwelcome and disconnected from others can be so painful. What emotions come up for you when you experience feeling left out like that?
@ASilentObserver
Can we talk about it 1-1 please feel uncomfortable sharing with people dont no
@ASilentObserver
It seems that I either have to be miserable at whatever job I get, or I have to be an unemployed loser who depends on their mom. I can't win
@ASilentObserver
Being alone or getting made fun of
@alysianna It sounds really difficult to experience depression symptoms when feeling alone or made fun of. How does it make you feel when those things trigger your depression?
@ASilentObserver like i want to take the whole world by storm and change it and punch some ppl.
aalso srry for late reply i lost the link to the site
I can't really say anything for situations bc any situation can trigger me if it goes downhill but for triggers it's mostly dying alone, animals being tortured, and being yelled at
Loneliness, pain from physical disabilities and nothing financial to help me. All these things trigger me hard and make me question why I am alive if not to be miserable.
@bgdave I understand this is a difficult time feeling lonely and in pain. Those heavy emotions can make life feel unbearable. I am glad you opened up and shared with us. We are all here with you. My bank account.

Grief is a main one for me.
Either things i have lost in my life or things that I will never be able to get, some of which most people have.
@Gettingbettertoday grief and loss are significant triggers for your depressive symptoms. Reflecting on things that cannot be changed must be very difficult. What thoughts typically come up for you during those times that are most difficult?
@ASilentObserver
I have a laundry list of missed opportunities. They make me feel diminished. Not because i tried and failed but because i was afraid to try.
