Journalling through the Darkness

Angelanj July 15th
Hey everyone,
Depression can feel extremely heavy and isolating. Sometimes, the best way to navigate those tough emotions is to get them out of our heads and onto paper. Journaling is a powerful tool for self-reflection and growth, especially when battling depression.

Here are some journal prompts you can use:

Identifying Emotions : What emotions am I feeling right now? Where do I feel them in my body?
Challenging Negative Thoughts : Is there a negative thought pattern stuck in my head? Can I reframe it in a more positive light?
Gratitude : What are three things I'm grateful for today, no matter how small?
Body Awareness : Did I do anything good for my body today (eat, drink water, exercise, etc.)?
Accomplishments : What did I achieve today, even if it feels insignificant?
Future Focus : What small step can I take today to move towards a goal?
Memories : Write about a positive memory that brings you comfort.

Here's an inspirational quote for today! 💟
 "The sun will rise again and we will try again." - Khalil Gibran

Remember : You are not alone. Depression is a common struggle, and there are people who care about you and want to help. Here are some resources you might find helpful:
  •  [National Suicide Prevention Lifeline](https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/) - 988
  • [National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)]( nami.org)
  • [Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA)]( dbsalliance.org)

@Angelanj

Hey. I have a question.

I was told by so many people that journaling is a great tool and can help with depression.

I tried it and frankly I hate it.

It makes me feel worse.

It feels really unproductive and like I am getting nowhere, because I'm already aware of what's happening and what emotions I'm feeling.

I will so abnormal because of it.

Angelanj OP August 31st

@Vector5 Hi Vector5! That's ok! Journalling isn't for everyone. Everyone has their likes and dislikes. You're not abnormal for disliking it! What's important is finding something that works best for you, something that'll make you feel better. What are some things you like to do?

Vector5 September 1st

@Angelanj

Well I love singing. I can express my emotions freely while I sing and it's kind of therapeutic. I also love juste voice notes.

@Vector5 That's lovely! Maybe consider joining a glee club or choir? Or challenging yourself to learn a new song every week?

I journal how I feel and think, any situation that is bothering me. Nothing is right or wrong. We all have ups and downs.
Some jounal prompts I use are as follows:
- Gratitude
- Positive affirmations.
Thank you for the post. It was very informative. I will continue to journal and add in more prompts.
Thank You.

@Admirablerainbow2825 That's correct rainbow! We all have ups and downs and that is ok! It's good you're able to allow yourself to journal process both the good and the bad! Those are some good things to journal about, keep it up 😊🫂

Angelanj OP September 18th

@Admirablerainbow2825 happy journaling! Also that first reply was a mistake! Sorry
