4) Team Lightship: Tweeting Empathy

SoulfullyAButterfly January 31st, 2021

In our introduction, we briefly understood an introduction to how social media-based marketing at 7 Cups uses a project called Team Lightship.

In this discussion, we will understand how the Lightship initiative works in terms of using tweets for spreading awareness, support, as well as 7 Cups content and other service information. We will also learn how the Twitter platform can be used to outreach to people requiring and in search of mental health support, in order to ensure that mental health is not ignored or stigmatized on social media.

(i) Using Tweets to Spread Awareness, Support, and Content/Service Information:

As previously discussed, the goal of Lightship is to use social media to reach out to those in need using kind and empathetic messages.

General tips include:

  • What you tweet about should reflect the compassionate, supportive, and kind community that 7 Cups is. Use your best judgment.

  • View your Team Lightship account as a force for good, and for spreading the 7 Cups mission and values.

  • Feel free to discuss emotions, situations, and topics that often occur on 7 Cups.

  • You might also want to post/retweet quotes or pictures, and that’s 100% okay! Just remember that reaching out to people should be a priority. Think of how social media graphics can be used in that sense, to engage people.

  • Note: Lightship uses referral links (found on your dashboard page under the list of chats) to direct users to the 7 Cups site.

Tips in regards to which areas or services of 7 Cups you can mention (apart from the general fact about 1:1 or group chats!): Self-Help Guides, Expert Articles, Free Mindfulness Exercises.

Sample Tweets:

Having a tough time? Don't keep it all inside. If you want to talk, we're here to listen 24/7 #7Cups https://www.7cups.com/17156123 #MentalHealthMatters

Need inspiration from people who have overcome Postnatal Depression? Read these stories of women using their recovery to aid others! https://www.7cups.com/experts/postnatal-depression-recovery

(ii) Using Twitter to Outreach People Seeking Support:

The following steps are helpful ways to identify and respond to people seeking support:

  1. Search for Keywords

Some keywords or hashtags can prominently help search for people in need of support.

Note: The following and other mental health-related tags on social media platforms can contain potentially triggering content.

  • Prominent Tags: need to vent, need a friend, feeling lonely, anxious, and depressed.

  • Other Tags Examples:

  • #depressed #anxious #depression #mentalhealth (high volume tags)

  • #needtotalk

  • #bullying

  • #chronicpain #chroniclife

  • #coping

  • #peersupport

  • #selfcare

Note: These keywords or hashtags can also be used in your own tweets to help ensure visibility and engagement.

  1. Reply to Tweets

After your search for important hashtags and keywords, when you find someone who has tweeted using one of those tags, and looks to be in need of support, reach out to them! Respond to their tweet with a message that includes information about how 7 Cups can support them.

Activity

Using what you learned about the Lightship protocol:

  1. Create one general hypothetical tweet that is supportive and compassionate.

  2. Respond to this Tweet using the outreaching tips:

3. Reply to one other student’s responses for both (1) and (2) and offer a review about their response: don’t forget to mention strengths as well as improvements they can make!

Please do not forget to personally save your activity answers as well as your reply to another user’s answer (recommended on Google Doc or other means) as you will be asked to share this for your Weekly Progress Report.

The stigma around #mentalhealth seems like not reducing at the pace we expected. We all inevitably need some emotional support from time to time. There is a safe place now if you #needtotalk. Reach out to 7cups.com

  2. Respond to this Tweet using the outreaching tips:

It's understandable what you are going through. All of a sudden we found ourselves in this social distance situation. I want you to know that you don't have go through this alone. Reach out to 7cups.com where trained volunteered listeners are there for emotional support. #ventinghelps.

@Countrygirl095 Hey, I hope you're doing well. I have picked up your responses for the third task. I have included my two cents below.

Review of Activity No. 1

Strengths:

The use of emojis is eye-catching and can enhance engagement. The clear call to action invites people with disabilities to seek support and share their experiences.

Including specific hashtags increases the tweet's visibility to those seeking disability support and mental health awareness.

What could be Improved:

While inviting, the tone could be softened to sound more personal and less like a public announcement. The tweet could include a direct link to facilitate immediate access to support.

IMHO, one must consider avoiding phrases like "all people with disabilities" as they can unintentionally generalize diverse experiences; instead, use inclusive language that acknowledges individuality.

Review of Activity No. 2

Strengths:

This response is empathetic and acknowledges the unique challenges faced by people with disabilities.

Offering a specific service (e.g., a virtual chat with trained listeners) clearly outlines how 7 Cups can assist. Once again, the hashtags used are relevant and promote the services available for emotional wellness.

What could be Improved:

The message could be more impactful by sharing a brief story or testimony from someone who has found support through 7 Cups, making it more relatable. It may benefit from a direct call to action, such as "Click the link to start a conversation now," along with a link.

To enhance personalization, consider addressing the reader directly with "you" statements, creating a one-on-one conversation feel.

P.S. The Above reviews are based on my analysis; apologies for the shortcomings; critique is most welcome.

I like how your tweet is compassionate and straight to the point.

In the response to the tweet, the empathy and support you expressed are very relevant.

As a suggestion for improvement, perhaps you could elaborate a little more on the second part of your answer, just to delve a little more into it and provide more detail.

Your tweet is short and sweet. I like how you validate having bad days and the encouragement that better days will come. It gives hope and as you read it you can feel the empathy and warmth of 7 Cups. Love the hashtag #youmatter

Well done 👍🏽😁

Improvements:

You could insert a link to click for the person so easy access is granted and you could clarify/explain how or in what way 7 Cups is there to support because people might not know what 7 Cups does as they have never heard from it. ☺️

Hello! I think your tweets are great. I love how your first tweets are generally applicable to anyone who reads the tweet and show compassion and reassurance to them!

Your second tweet is also a great response to the original tweet as it highlights the original's situation and validates it. You also used proper hashtags that fits them on both of your tweets!

My suggestions would be to add links that direct to the 7 Cups website(as already pointed by another user) and to add emojis to suits your tweets.

Hello Luna!
I think your tweets are wonderful. Your first tweet contains proper compassion for those who are reading it. You also used appropriate hashtags and provided links to the website.

For your second tweet, you also showed compassion and validation to what the original tweeter is going through and provided links to direct them to 7 Cups. Your emoji usage also makes your tweet seems more friendly and not rigid at all!

Overall the only suggestion I can give is to consider using gifs or pictures that suits your tweets as the option is also available on Twitter.
