7 Cups Leadership Guidelines

Last post

...See more Thank you for being a leader on 7 Cups! Community leaders are a significant part of our community. In stepping into a leadership role with 7 Cups, you have agreed that you align with our values and wish to uphold our mission. You have the ability to inform and influence our community members. So, it is important to lead by example and be a role model to inspire others to aspire to be someone like you to extend the support to others. In addition to the community guidelines, rules, and policies [https://www.7cups.com/about/communityGuidelines.php] currently in place, we are including a list of reminders, as well as one new rule. ➡ As a community leader, you may be provided with confidential information to perform your work on a team or a project. Use this knowledge for its intended purpose only. In other words, please do not abuse your privileges. We trust you to be responsible and maintain confidentiality. ➡. Refrain from engaging in triangulation. This is a very common mistake people make without even realizing it's happening. Triangulation manifests itself in our community as one person who will not communicate directly with another person, and instead use a third person to relay communication to the second, thus forming a triangle. Triangulation is damaging because it interferes with healthy conflict-resolution and lends itself to rumor spreading by taking a private situation between two users and exposing it to more people. Read more about this and take the Triangulation Pledge. [https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenerCommunityampSiteUpdates_38/LaurasOffice_169/WhatisTriangulation3StepstoAvoidingStoppingitfromhappeninginthecommunity_35107/1/] ➡. Community leaders must maintain strong boundaries. Being a role model, and a trustworthy and reliable leader, users may become dependent on you. To nurture healthy relationships with the community, it's imperative that you set boundaries for yourself and respect those of others. ➡. Community leaders accept feedback gracefully. Getting feedback can be hard to hear, especially if it's more of a constructive criticism than a praise. Leaders should be able to accept feedback gracefully if given constructively. We all are human and all have things to work on and grow. ➡ Please honor and follow our social media policies (i.e. no off-site contact with community members). 7 Cups is a safe environment for you to build and create connections. We love that you are building supportive relationships with each other and enjoy connecting! In order to preserve this safe space, we ask you not to solicit off-site contact. Also bear in mind, once you take interactions off 7 Cups, we are unable to assist you in the event something happens outside of our site. ➡ Reporting is our responsibility. You are the eyes of our community. We have several ways to report incidents that cover all areas of the site, and we rely on you to direct users to those channels. We also rely on you to use them as well. As the slogan goes: if you see something, say something. ➡ We respect your right to use whatever sites you'd like. However, since we launched, we have discovered that some of our leaders have also been working with non-crisis sites that are similar to 7 Cups. We are all for competition, but we want the intention behind it to be solving broader emotional health challenges. We don't want the competition to be a negative interaction between companies. To protect our community and its ongoing progress, we ask that if you would like to pursue leadership with us that you do not affiliate yourself in leadership positions with non-crisis sites similar to 7 Cups. (When I say similar sites, I am referring to any site that offers the same services as us. This would not include therapists, AA, NAMI, and assistance programs that share our broad goal to provide support in the healthcare industry but are not set up to operate like we do. They all offer different components that work in tandem with us.) Leaders: please reply below if you have read and understood these rules! If you have any questions, you may PM anyone on the community team (@Hope, @ASilentObserver, myself).

...See more Hi everyone! I hope you are well. As you know lately we have been making efforts to familiarise our users with our sub-communities. We had some success with sub-community workshops [https://www.7cups.com/forum/CommunityProjectsEvents_184/SubcommunityWorkshops_2163/SignuptoleadSubcommunityworkshops_231973/] but we also want to do the training on a larger scale. It does not take a lot to understand the basics of sub-communities. By the end of doing the activities/steps in this post, you should be ready to explore sub-communities on your own. How can I view the needs reply queue?
by tommy
Last post
August 18th
...See more How can I view the Needs Reply Queue? The Needs Reply Queue is a list of threads which are yet to be responded to. We want every member of our community to feel welcomed, appreciated and included. We can do this by ensuring everyone gets a prompt reply. There are two ways you can access the needs reply queue: one which shows you all needs reply threads for the entire forum and another which shows you the needs reply threads specific to a community.  Forum Needs Reply Queue This is where every thread on the forum without a reply goes irrespective of the community it is posted in. Simple head here [https://www.7cups.com/community/] and click on the "Needs reply" tab: This list starts with the oldest threads at the top, we want to try and ensure everyone gets a reply within 24 hours. Community Specific Needs Reply Queue This is a list of threads which were posted within that community that have not yet been responded to. This is great if you are wanting to help people in an area you are particularly passionate about. Simply head over to the community and click the 'Last active' drop down: You can then change the dropdown to the 'Needs reply' option which will show you the threads that have not had any replies currently. Note: this page will appear blank if all threads have been responded to. Community leaders should check this regularly to support users within their chosen communities/topics. What makes a good needs reply? Whenever someone makes a forum post, they have trusted us with a small part of them. We need to respect this and provide them with a supportive and nurturing environment. We can do this by effective replying: ✔️ Avoid generic replies such as "go you!" or gifs with no text. These could make the original poster think we are simply clearing the queue without considering what they have to say. ✔️ Demonstrate active listening skills if you can - show that you are listening and taking on board what they are saying. ✔️ Encourage discussion - can you ask them any follow up questions or find a way to allow them to consider other eventualities? ✔️ Empathy - take the time to show the user that it's okay to feel the way they do. This helps promote a safe environment. ✔️ Non-judgemental - do not judge or share your own opinions on decisions another person has made. This is often unhelpful and can be upsetting. ✔️ Singpost - would the user benefit from other 7 Cups resources? Threads, communities, teams, projects, group support etc. You can find more tips on effective replying here [https://www.7cups.com/forum/7cupsleadership/TheNeedsReplyTeamProject_781/EffectiveReplying_286362/]. Do you have any other tips which people could consider when responding to needs reply posts? Let us now below 😃
Information: Tags & Notifying Users
by theriverissinging

...See more All About Tags and Taglists * What is a Tag? A tag is a way to notify any user of a forum post. It appears as a notification for the user tagged and links back to the post where it is done. * Why Tag? Tagging is a way to encourage someone to participate in the forum post or thread they are tagged in. * How to Tag? Use an @ sign before the person's current username to tag them. For example, using ' @theriverissinging ' here would tag and notify me of this post. * Other Related Information Please note that using anything other than a comma, full stop or space after a tag may or may (usually) not result in the user being tagged and notified. Tags only work for the original post that is made and not any modified (edited) version of it. So adding, removing or modifying tags in the original post after it has already been posted won't affect things. * What is a Taglist? A taglist is a mass collection or a list of tags. * RarelyCharlie's Automated Taglist Feature The taglist service here [https://rarelycharlie.github.io/howto/taglist] provides a secure and easy way to create auto-updating taglists for 7 Cups. Each taglist is controlled by a public thread in a public (not restricted to some users) forum. You can read more about it as to how to add/remove yourself from these, who owns/controls them and how, etc. here [https://rarelycharlie.github.io/howto/taglist]! * How are Taglists helpful for a Sub-Community? They can be used in a sub-community to mass notify people of events, check-ins and other activities, announcements and updates that occur in there. * When is it appropriate to tag someone? * When responding directly to someone (7 Cups has an auto-tag feature on browser if you use the reply button). * They have asked you to, such as by signing up for a taglist for check-ins, events, etc. * They can provide an answer or have more information on a topic. * You specifically think they would be interested in seeing it. * It is an update for a team they are on. * When is it not appropriate to tag someone? * They have asked not to be tagged specifically, such as by opting off of a taglist. * This post is not relevant to them. * You just want as many people as possible to see it but it may not be important to them or even at times irritating, etc. * Overuse of taglists for no apparent reason. How do I create or reply to a thread?

Last post
July 27th, 2023
...See more How do I create and reply to a thread? Knowing where to start can be overwhelming at first so it is important to take a step back before rushing. Before you create your thread, you should think about who your desired audience is and where the thread will generate the best response. Once you've figured this out, you can use the thread editor tools to help make your thread appealing by adding images and changing font colours. Step 1 * Find an appropriate community for your thread (you are not allowed to post the same thread more than once). Think carefully about the purpose of your thread and the audience that you would like to attract. Step 2 * Once you have found a suitable community, click any part of the following: Step 3 * Use this guide [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yPV9zLjFSPuon7B63TN-Czo6RIp4G5nodVnOt2M0qF0/edit] to support you with navigating the thread creator/editor. You are then able to post your thread and await replies! You can click the reply button to respond to any thread or post across the forum. How can I subscribe to a thread? Want to be notified each time someone replies to the thread? Then you can subscribe to it! You do not need to be the thread creator to subscribe to a thread and no one will know what threads you are or are not subscribed to. If you decide that you no longer want to receive notifications, then you can press the same button to unsubscribe. The subscription button is shaped like a book mark and is located in the bottom left hand corner of a thread.
- Forum Dictionary! -

...See more Hello, everyone! We thought that without a dictionary explaining some of the key terms commonly used within the forums, the other posts may be a bit confusing so welcome to the Forum Dictionary! Sub-community: A category is called a sub-community when assigned a home page and given a join-community button, this happens when the category is active, has a group of leaders, hosts regular check-ins and has subscribers. A sub-community is the joint of forums and member chatrooms so sub-communities have a related support room too in most cases. Sub-forum or topic: This is where the community is broken up into more specific areas such as Health Anxiety within the Anxiety Community. Thread: A collection of posts which typically form a discussion. These can be icebreakers, check-ins, a question or simply anyone asking for support. Post: A response to a thread/person or a post can be the start of a thread. It is where you write something to contribute to a discussion or thread and will appear in its own section with your username and time it was written. Reply: This is when you click a button that says reply in order to reply to a particular post, this may be to the original post or to a comment. WHen you press the reply button it also automatically includes the users name that you are replying to. OP: Original Post - this is a first post that starts a thread. Hyperlink: This is where you make it so a word becomes a clickable link (it typically becomes a blue colour unless the author of the post changes the colour) - there will be more information on how to make a hyperlink in a post that is soon to come! FS: Forum Supporter - this is a person who contributes to their chosen community or communities through engaging and supportive threads or replying to other posts. CM: Community Mentor/Teen Star - these are people who have shown dedication to their community and are active in the forum, they can edit and delete posts to moderate content and keep everyone safe. They can also help with the organisation of the community. Forum Supporter and Forum Mentor/Star/Member leader roles are subcommunity based. You can apply to be global after a month in your role. Forum PA: Forum Project Agent - these are people who work in making sure the forums and the teams within the forums are run efficiently. This is the first step in the Forum Leadership roles, they focus on the team as a whole not a particular subcommunity. CML: Community Mentor Leaders - CML/TSL are leaders in forums who dedicated their time to building community across the whole side. They are always leading a forum-based project and want to improve the forums for everyone regardless of topic. FA/Amb: Forum Ambassadors - work as a bridge between admin and the volunteer team and also hold trainings and meetings. NR: This stands for Needs Reply which are posts that have had no response. Flag: This is when you click the flag icon at the bottom of someone's post to report it as not following forum guidelines. Upvote: This is when you click on the upwards arrow to show that you read a post and enjoyed it or found it helpful. Ice-breaker/Fun activity: Respond to 1 post in the Needs Reply queue! ------------------------- Updated by @tommy on July 27th, 2023
